Yay Sumatra!!!
Ha... someone else who found it difficult... Faye and I were knackered, slipping all over the place and covered head to toe in mud!!! Good times tho! Indonesia was always our favourite and we're eager to go back!!!! Safe travels! x

Train tickets from Chengdu to Lhasa
Can one get train tickets or reservations for the new train from Golmud or Chengdu to Lhasa online? If not, where can one get them in Chengdu? How much does the cheapest one-way ticket cost? Please reply to my email address: pperrinmis@yahoo.com Thanks!

Dangerous Looking Rides
I have to say that the thought of a BIG Ferris wheel is a bit much for me. I prefer the more gentle, grounded tea-cups or caterpillar ride that moves at a pace more in line with my own brains. On the occupation front I have a suggestion: ... are you ready?... ...sure?... I think you should be... ...the person that makes sure all the astronauts have enough dried curry (or even ranch dressing) in their little pouches to make it round the earth a few times. Your keen observations of the current space programme should stand you in good stead.

Omen...
I read this just before I was about to have my haircut in Saigon. After you mentioning that it was a Vietnamese lady who cut off your locks, I took it as a sign and aborted the mission! Have you any experiences (good or bad) with Cambodian hairdressers which you would like to share before I do anything rash?!

Hey, I think I may have accidentally unsubscribed from your blog. Is there a way you can find out? I can't believe how long your hair was! How short is it now?

Thanks for the info!
Jenni It was great to read your blog concerning the train from Chengdu to Tibet. I have booked my 2 daughters (ages 8 and 11) and I on the train in March and have been worried about being able to see aout the windows, the general feeling of the train, etc. Thanks! I can't wait now. Fears relieved! Carol

More vacation days!
I totally agree with you that it is so depressing to look at working a whole year with only two (or even one!) week off! I am almost done with nursing school (May '07), and the hospital where I hope to work offers 22 vacation days, 12 holidays, 6 personal days, 10 sick days... That is pretty standard for the nursing jobs I've looked into. So be a nurse with me! You can even be a travelling nurse where companies pay your housing and transportation while you work in a new location for weeks or months at a time. There you go. I figured out your job conundrum! :) Btw... when are you going to invite me to visit you on that Florida beach??? Happy to have you back, but disappointed that I won't get your blogs.

If I remember my intro biology correctly, the malaria resistance is due to the fact that the people are recessive carriers for sickle-cell anemia. Handy genetic adaptation, sorta.

I was curious to see what a class V rapid looked like, and I found good pics on this guy's webpage: http://www.stanford.edu/~siegelr/nile.html He has a little bit of funny commentary about getting thrashed on the nile too. :)
