Jared S Baumeister - JSB Travel Report

JSB Travel Report I'm going to write about my adventures this summer. I just finished school and I will be abroad for 5-6 weeks before coming back to the crushing reality of a job and the real world. I don't know what to expect from that so I am going to enjoy my last bit of freedom. I'll be going to a lot of my favorite places as well as a few new destinations, hopefully school hasn't sapped every ounce of creativity from me and my updates will be at least mildly entertaining.

With the crushing hangover of the previous day fresh in my mind, I was in no rush to throw myself back into circulation. I slept until probably 3 in the afternoon and was planning on a final low key day before heading to Monte Carlo the next morning. I went down to the pool, grabbed a perrier, the herald tribune, a lounge chair and settled in for a boring afternoon. In a nearly unprecedented move, clouds started rolling in and I was shocked when it started to drizzle. It NEVER rains on the Riviera in summer and it is rare that [View Full Entry]

I was beyond surprised to wake up around noon on Saturday hangover free. It had now been 3 nights of going fairly hard with day drinking and I was getting up from a maximum of six hours of sleep. Camille, Constance and I assembled around the pool with much perrier and still water. Camille called Solene and asked where she was she said something like "St. Tropez, of course..." When she called back 20 or 30 minutes later Camille asked Solene why she didn't just call for a cab. At this point we learned that not only did Solene shack with [View Full Entry]

Day 5 is what happens when you don't follow the advice I have been giving out. I woke up around 2pm and went down to the pool. I got a perrier and a lounge chair. I spent an hour or two lying in the sun reading the Herald Tribune (mostly articles about Russia/Georgia) and took a quick dip in the pool. After I went down to the Spar in town, which is configured as just a plain small supermarket not the lovely all purpose store we had enjoyed in Ireland (sorry Kev, no breakfast baps). I got a large bottle of [View Full Entry]

I normally hate traveling tired and hungover, but much of this is due to the fact that I am always apprehensive and stressed about flying and the hangover just exacerbates this. I was not worried when I awoke this Tuesday morning, because I had a car and driver bringing me to Monaco and I knew I could sleep in the car. Being as I was out until 6am the previous night, I had not packed. I got up around 11:30, drank all the evian remaining in the room and started to put my things together. I was still slightly drunk, so [View Full Entry]

Up until this point it had been a pretty tame trip to St. Tropez. I had been in bed by 5am or earlier every night, and nothing too ridiculous had happened. For the weekend the bar would be raised. I ignored phone calls from Eric, the Germans and everyone else from Noon to 2pm and fully intended to spend the day in recovery. I went down to the Byblos pool got a Perrier and took a lounge chair. This lasted for probably an hour. I was soon bored of lying on a chair with intermittent trips to the pool to [View Full Entry]

I got to bed relatively early on night one as the sun had not yes risen. Before heading back to my room night 1, the Germans and I decided we would all meet and go to Voile Rouge at 1:30 or 2PM the next day. I woke up around 1 and found a note from the concierge confirming Voile Rouge for 1:30PM. No one ever shows up anywhere on time in St. Tropez and the service is always slow and half assed (although the Byblos is picking it up), so the time was not a problem. I had gotten a call [View Full Entry]

I haven't had time to update for the last week or so for obvious reasons. I woke up at 8 or 9 in Paris at Hotel Le Bristol. I had packed my bags the night before since I decided not to go out after dinner the previous night. It didn't seem like a good idea to stay out late with an early trip, especially when I wanted to have maximum energy for night one in St. Tropez. Checking in for the flight proved be a huge ordeal and I'm still not sure why Europeans love having nonsensical setups on most forms [View Full Entry]

Maybe this thread title will take some hits away from Rick Solomons porn of the same name starring Paris Hilton...unlikely. I was up at 5am (lovely) to get my flight from Reykjavik to Paris. For some reason Iceland Air only runs flights very early in the morning or very late at night and they are pretty much the only option when flying to or from Iceland. On a somewhat related note apparently Iceland had a semi-centrally planned state government until the 1980's, as they gained their independence in 1944 and shortly thereafter the government consolidated power. The people, who had largely [View Full Entry]

I guess i'll pick up from where the last entry left off and continue through to my departure. I am going to put a ton of pictures up and I suggest you check them out. The Icelandic countryside is ridiculously stunning. When this trip was initially booked, I did some research and found that Reykjavik despite it's reputation for crazy nightlife is really only a party town Thurs-Sat. As a result, I was a bit worried that I would only get one really unnecessary night of binge drinking in. Unbeknownst to me, Monday was a national holiday (I think "commerce [View Full Entry]

Just a quick note to Johann who commented on yesterday's entry. I meant no disrespect to the people of Iceland. Also, I was not expecting tropical weather, it was a reference to the song "Tropical Iceland" by the Fiery Furnaces. Ok, from the top then. I woke up around 1PM after taking a nap to try and counteract the onset of jetlag. First checked out the square and area immediately around the hotel, then went down by the harbor and through a flea market that is setup indoors near there. Headed to the other side of town and got lunch at [View Full Entry]
