Even Michael Palin doesn't have adventures like this. Pity a film crew hadn't followed you through Eastern Europe rather than him. His adventures there were decidedly tame in comparison with yours.
Slovenian Green You must love these photos seeing your favourite colour is green!
I can't believe Lake Bled is such an amazing emerald green. Pleased to hear you've discovered some friendly locals so you can relax and feel more at home (pity you couldn't stay longer). Eat up or Gran will be wanting to send you food parcels! Lots of love from Ngaire and Kevin.
Food Robert tells me that the people you are staying with in Canada are the most wonderful hosts - he has never seen such an amazing breakfast. Am sending them your flight times and photo today. Pleased to hear you are slowing down a little- rest days are essential.
Tuscany and Venice Highlights Your 'must return to' list must be huge by now, it all looks so appealing, your photos are, once again, amazing. Love the narrow streets, fancy driving down some of the 'no car' ones, reminds me of our off-roading in Tonga Jane, ha ha. Glad your pace slowed down a bit, picnicing in Tuscany sounds (and looks) fabulous. You're both looking relaxed and happy. Love, Mum.
Pisa You did better than us - we drove into Pisa, couldn't find a sign and after driving around for ages gave it a miss. Italy is expensive - trust you are finding Austria cheaper.
No 'scaffoldi' Nice to see the Spanish steps without the activities of the 'scaffoldi' that you see everywhere at the old and 'being restored' sites. Nothing more disappointing than rolling up to a supposedly stunning site to see it covered in scaffolding.
Oh the memories I'm so impressed at what you have managed to achieve in such short time periods. You are brave driving the length of the Amalfi Coast - we only drove to Praiano (just past Positano) but you have managed to see so much more by not taking the bus. Inspired choice to arrive at Pompeii late - tour bus customers don't last the distance. These photos are just stunning. I love the angles on Positano and the Sistine Chapel. You were fortunate not to have guards stopping you taking photos. Simon and Nick said they couldn't but we didn't have an issue.
Busy Rome So glad you were feeling better for Rome Jane, what a lot to look at! You did well, photos, descriptions, information, it's all there. Better watch out if you go to France, Ange's fans will be pestering you for a peep at the twins! Lots of love from Mum.xx
Manu Matt says the definition of a Manu is a dive with your arms crossed tightly to you chest, landing on your butt, creating mass water movement....or something. (Boys). But yes Jane thought a Manu was a little Maori doll too. The drink is restinas wine, although just a taste - it was very tangy.
Wow! Such beautiful photos! Jane, you're looking really good. Sorry to hear you were sick for three days. Glad you're much better now. You're both looking quite thin! Hope you're eating lots of nutritious food.
xxx K
What amazing water! Have used this blog 3 times in the last 24 hours with my classes. The first one explained to me what a 'manu' was. Someone else asked if you were brother and sister. The next class asked if this was your honeymoon.
Simon has downloaded some of your photos to use for his new powerpoint on population issues in Monsoon Asia - I was sure you wouldn't mind.
Alan was not surprised to hear that Matt has had his best swim at Corfu - he says the same. On a cold wintery day like today when Robert is laid low with the flu, Corfu looks sooo appealing.
Amazing Greece Capturing these beautiful scenes must be sooo exciting for you both, you couldn't run out of photo opportunities here Jane! I was wondering about rainfall as it looks so dry, but they obviously don't miss out. Those blue skies! (we've finally had two days fine weather to perk us up). I noticed the crystal clear water in "Mamma Mia", you'd enjoy seeing it, mainly for the scenery. Can't wait to see Italy next, love, Ngaire.
Greek Glamour Oh Wow!! I think I'm going to return to my maiden name, pack my bags (kev can help carry them) and jump on the plane, how amazing. You've really got the whole family going now, especially seeing we're having such a bad patch with this crazy weather. Blue sea and skies, sun, historic buildings, fantastic food, amazing scenery...... how fantastic, lap it up, love Ngaire.
Talofa!!! :) He he he Hey...
It's always so great to receive updates of your trip.
What an amazing place!!! This is now another place to add to my list of countries I would like to visit! What amazing scenery. :)
Can't wait for the next update.
Lots of love,
K
Top of my wish list This is definitely top priority for me for my next trip - so stunning and what suprises me is that such a major tourist mecca can be done so cheaply. Impressive tans!!
Hi Hey guys, the colours look amazing! Made sure I used a colour printer to send this blog to Grandma. You've missed the big storms here - flooded Whangarei, tornadoes in Tauranga and houses falling off cliffs in Coromandel. It was raining last night and I ran into the STA Travel store again on the way home from work. Read the same round the world travel brochure for about the 4th time - I'm ready for a holiday in the sunshine too I think!
very tempted.... heya I haven't read your blog in ages and have enjoyed catching up on all your travels during horribly stormy weather here in aucks! Great photos and stories of all the places; especially Cambodia - A friend of mine went to Cambodia last year and reported back how much she loved it too. I'm so very tempted to just get on the next flight outta here! Hope you're both well, looking forward to the next installment. Chatelle
Middle-East Heat Well you've always hated being cold Janey, now you know how the other extreme feels! Wasn't sure if it was you in the 'Fort Climbing' photo Matt, so I enlarged it. Is that an instant Bahrain tan? Glad your back-up camera worked in the hot conditions, the photos are so good I can almost feel the heat! With love from, Ngaire.
Two days enough! Just to survive this heat is feat enough. I started the inequalities topic with my 12 geo class today so showed them some of the Asia photos. They kept saying "Did she just download those photos? Did she take those? She is an amazing photographer!"
Poor Matt - one day he is a monkey and the next he is a Nazi!
:) Hey you two. Nice update on your trip to Bahrain. :) Photos looked great!
Have fun in Greece and look forward to seeing more photos of your trip.
Love,
K
