Canadian Highlights Good timing re the Autumn colours, it must have been an amazing sight. Glad you loved the snow and finally used those thermals! The tour guide looks familiar! Well done Robert. See you soon (wow, that sounds good), love Mum.
Some stats of my own Times I read each blog: 6
Times my classes begged me to forget the work and to show them the blogs: 25
Times a day I checked for email messages: 8
Phonecalls from Canada: 10 (Just as well they were free)
Times I pulled out the atlas: 5 (Geo teachers shouldn't need to do this at all so this is an admission.)
Times I prayed for you both: 100s
Friends of ours that you met: 12
Times I wished I was there: 50
Times I was glad that I wasn't there: 5
Times I lived my trips vicariously through you: 25
Catching up with you when you come home: Precious in comparison.
New York New York! Sounds exciting! for a short time only maybe, what do you think? You won't forget your taste of America, you did well to see so many sights with such limited time, looks as though the weather co-operated too. You'll feel more at home in Canada. Love, Mum/Ngaire
Icelandic Horses! Have been reading about the horses, aren't they fascinating, such intriguing history going back to 800 AD and the Vikings! They're meant to be intelligent, courageous, strong, and charming and never kick or bite, amazing. I want one!! We have some in NZ, what do you think? Need a farm first. Have seen many photos of the Eiffel Tower but not at that angle, it looks fantastic. Rest up, if that's possible, love Ngaire.
Yet another great blog! I really enjoyed your thoughts on Iceland. It surely seems to be a quirky country, but I think that's why you need to visit it!
As always, your pictures are gorgeous. What kind of camera/equipment do you two use?
Can't wait to see what you think about the States!
Geographers fascination Such a fascinating landscape - one of those waterfalls is intriguing. I guess it is the combination of that glaciating by ice sheets and the lava flows.
We felt exactly the same as you in Paris - too tired to do it justice. Next time is our motto.
Lakes Hey, yeah lake was stunning and matt reckons it was the warmest he had been in, but then again comparing it to nz probably isn't the way to go. we saw a glacial lake the other day and i suggested i dive in like how you did in the south island. matt said no.
Sound of Music + Mozart Great for you to both have musical, historical and nostalgic components to your fun-time in Salzburg. So pleased you made it to Switzerland in spite of the cost factor, it looks stunning, your photos really capture the magic.
Fancy feeling cold for a change, how refreshing, next stop Iceland!
lots of love, Mum/Ngaire.
Swiss Mountains Wandering (or climbing breathless) through the Swiss Alps (even more than the Austrian ones) certainly makes you want to sing "The hills are alive . . . "
Impressed that you made it to Kleine Schneidigg and Wengen. That is no mean feat but sooo worth the effort. The weather is stunning as are the photos. This area is one of my two favourite spots in the world. The other is Moraine Lake in the Rockies - hope you and Robert get such good weather there in a few weeks time.
Wow Once again, an amazable blog!! (remember that word Janey?).
Brings back lots of memories for me. It's amazing how parts of Europe continue to be the same decade after decade and century after century. Your blog also reminds me of how life is so different across a border, even though they maybe in close proximity.
Can I join you guys, because I need to lose a little bit of weight. Maybe we can produce a new diet book! By the way Matt, Joey is now heavier than you! Not tougher though.
Cheers, Kevin.
