Halong Bay: You know when some one tells you something but its one of those 'you really had to be there' kinda stories? Well Halong Bay is sort of one of those. I don't think pictures or words could describe just how beautiful it was. When we were sailing through the bay on our boat we just laid on the deck enjoying the peaceful feeling, no one even spoke. The sea is flat calm, there is no noise, even the boats are quiet. Even though we ended up, once again, on a boat with only 2 other English speakers, the trip [View Full Entry]

Vietnam Calling!! So excited to be in another new country, after speeding through Thailand and Cambodia in only 8 days we were Vietnam bound! To get from Sihanoukville to Ho Chi Minh City we had to pass back through Phnom Penh, the total journey time was 12 hours but it went quite quickly. I thought I would hate the long journeys but I actually find myself enjoying watching the world go by outside my window. So many times I wanted to stop and get a great photo or talk to the kids playing on the roadside, maybe next time I'll go [View Full Entry]

Sihanoukville, here we come! When you arrive at a beach destination, the last thing you want to see is thunderstorms! Our plan to relax and save some money by spending days on the beach, lounging in the sun were down the drain. It rained for 3 days. I won't complain too much because the thunderstorms were pretty cool to see. Instead of sunbathing we played lots of scrabble and ate ice-cream sundaes :) We stayed at Sea View Villa II which was western owned, the food was really great for western food in the east. Newly refurbished, it was a nice [View Full Entry]

Phnom Penh The journey was definitely one to remember! jammed into a bus with almost 3 people per seat for hours! aahh!!! First impressions, not good. Really dislike how you aren't able to breathe or even think when you get out of the bus in the city. We didn't know where to go so we followed a couple to Sunset Guesthouse. The room was cheap and there was free internet but they people were strange. We decided to stay only 2 nights. Just outside the center of the city we visited an orphanage called The Lighthouse Orphanage, taking with us some [View Full Entry]

Part 2 of our journey in the South-East of Asia! Boarding our bus to the Thai/Cambodian boarder (costed approx. $20 and booked along with our package tour in Bangkok) we weren't quite sure what to expect. You hear the stories about travelers being scammed at the borders and how this way or that way is the best option for obtaining visas..who knows which one to chose? We decided to pay for our visas at the border. We got to Aranyaprathet, the Thai border, for a short break before the 10 minute drive to Poi Pet. A local was collecting passports to [View Full Entry]

So I decided at very short notice to go on a 4 week adventure to South East Asia with on of my closest friends, with no time to save or to plan anything properly, we knew it would be interesting! Bangkok, Bangkok!! First stop, Bangkok! Outside the airport our taxi awaited, the driver wasn't impressed with our lack of Thai vocab and I was less impressed with his driving. The road into central Bangkok was hectic. There were so many cars and motor bikes in one space at one time, also so many accidents in one place at one time. 45 [View Full Entry]
