Normal 0 21 When the plane’s wheels first touched the ground, I was overwhelmed with excitement. It wasn’t the first time I crossed the Atlantic, but I’d never seen New York before. I dropped my suitcases at the nearest hotel and took the elevator down to the bar where I had a lot of fascinating conversations such as why does New Jersey suck, how “awesome” the Yankees really are and, mostly, how funny my accent was. I left for San Antonio the next day, in an air America flight, not feeling quite as fresh as the day before. On the landing I drank two litres of coffee and rushed in town, looking for a car to rent.
