Texas
Here are our routes in Texas Normal 0 21
When the plane’s wheels first touched the ground, I was overwhelmed with excitement. It wasn’t the first time I crossed the Atlantic, but I’d never seen New York before. I dropped my suitcases at the nearest hotel and took the elevator down to the bar where I had a lot of fascinating conversations such as why does New Jersey suck, how “awesome” the Yankees really are and, mostly, how funny my accent was.
I left for San Antonio the next day, in an air America flight, not feeling quite as fresh as the day before. On the landing I drank two litres of coffee and rushed in town, looking for a car to rent. After hours of searching, I chose a blue 55 Thunderbird that I finally bought 900 usd after half an hour of bargaining. I visited the town and its suburbs while accustoming to the right side driving. I hung out with local fellows and had one of the best times ever while visiting San Antonio. I left for Dallas a couple days later and drove through the desert for almost a week, when I picked up a weirdo who called himself Vinnie Gaz with whom I had the most annoying conversation of my life. It went like this :
- Where are you driving ?
- Dallas
- Why aren’t you taking the plane ?
- Driving is much funnier
- You’re dumb
- Maybe
- Not maybe
- Where are you walking ?
- Dallas
- Why aren’t you driving
- ‘cause I just met a chump to drive me there
- What makes you believe I’ll drive you to Dallas ?
- According to your accent you’re British , and ipso facto nice
- Yeah you’re right hop on
And that’s how I drove a wanted psychotic criminal back home.
At the very second I reached Dallas I knew I wasn’t gonna like it in here and I barely stayed longer than a day.
It’s amazing how boring Texas seems to be when you’re one of it’s inhabitants every single person I met called me crazy and could not understand why anybody would want to come here. I thought it was very exciting to hit the road like this, by myself (mostly), going where I wanted to go, doing what I wanted to do. I was in Houston sooner than I expected and enjoyed some the citizens’ fun going to a “football” game ( calling this stupidity football is kind of an heresy ), taking sun bathes on the beach and winning shot contests with some so- called street cow-boys. I also learned about Vinnie Gaz while reading the news. When I realized I had to leave, I almost cried, thinking that I’d never have such a great time again. I never went back to Texas but I eventually had amazing trips all around the globe.
I particularily remember of two days, the first one it’s when I arrive to San Antonio. San Antonio is huge city that never sleeps. Indeed the is lit up, there are peoples in every corner. There are an incredible number of shops that sell items that I would not have suspected to exist. Many cinemas, malls, cars dealer are prensent.
On the way to go to Dallas, I had a wonderful meeting with beautiful landscape. In back round I could see majestics red mountains, in a middle round there are five sports man practising hicking. There is a large blue lake when I could swim with fish.
Texas is a big stade of USA, and it’s very beautiful. Indeed there lot of wonderful landscapes, you can visit majestic city ( Dallas, Houston..), practise windsurfing, bass fishing, saltwater fishing. In Texas you can make good meeting. There are many cities where you can go to the casino, cinema and in which you can do whatever you dream of doing. There are roads that pass through the desert for thousands of miles.
Honestly Texas is a country that I recommend for people who love nature. I will never forget this wonderful trip.
