Visited Blackpool today. It's a holiday seaside town which doubles as one big amusement park. There is an amusement park with Roller coasters and other rides, but you can have as much fun on the 3 piers filled with side show games and rides, many spruked by operators in that true Lancaster Scouse accent which just adds to the colour. England has become a melting pot of lots of different cultures, and Blackpool shows off this diversity. Here people from all walks of life and different ethic backgrounds enjoy the holiday atmosphere. As we walked along the promenade, the vibrant sounds of Africa music rang out as a group enjoyed the rhythm drawing people closer to watch and listen. Over all it was a great day. ... read more

Today took us by car from Stansted Airport to stay with Family in Darwen, Lancashire. The drive was an experience. The motorways are filled with Trucks and Semitrailers and along with the locals who drive creatively. After a long drive we arrived at Darwen in the North of England to meet Family, Uncles, Aunts and Cousins. Our Evening took us to the Butlers Arms for a big family dinner and some wonderful Lancashire hospitality, including some of the local Ale, which this Aussie much enjoyed. The Butler’s Arms is “somewhere” near Darwen, not sure where as we drove for about 15 minutes down lots of hedge and stone wall lined lanes which seemed like a maze, except to the locals who were fortunately driving. This true English pub had all the cozy warmth I expected, but ... read more

Wow...what a long flight, it seemed to go on forever, but hey we are finally here. I felt for the people travelling on British and EU passports going through England Immigration, their line at was 3 times that of the everyone else, and it moved slower. It's after 1 am here, tomorrow we grab the hire car and head north to Darwen, just north of Manchester to visit family. Note for future reference: When I booked AirAsiaX I was thinking "No Frills Airline"like Virgin Blue or Jetstar in Australia. AirAsiaX is a"Budget" airline, much different. In "No Frills" the service and quality is there, you just need to pay for it, in "Budget" the quality of service, comfort etc are budget. They got us from Perth to England safely so on that they get a tick. ... read more

Well we’ve landed in KL after our first flight on AirAsia X. After leaving an hour late the flight was relatively uneventful, except for the cabin lights going out during some turbulence and the approach to KL being a little unnerving. But hey, we’re here in the heat waiting for our London leg. We prepaid for a meal on board, for future reference, although the food is OK, there isn’t much of it. I recommend taking snacks. We have had to pick up our bags and go all the way through customs and immigration, only to check in and go back out again. This is what you get for flying a budget airline I guess. Ahead of us is a 14 hour long haul into London. ... read more

Well after 7 months of planning, hours on the internet, and guide books galor, we fly out for England tomorrow morning. The excitement of starting our month long adventure is countered slightly by the thought of 23 hours of flights and airports, but I am sure we will forget all that when we wake up in England and start touring. Our house sitters have joined us and they seem nice people. With the furry kids and the house being looked after, we just need to finish packing the bags, hope the taxi arrives at 4am, get on the plane and away we go. England and Europe, here we come. :-)... read more
