Here is my astonishing travel experience from the Bangalore to Wayanad road trip through the Bandipur Tiger Reserve and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Located close to the Karnataka border, Wayanad the wonderful hill station located in Kerala is unique with its scenic nature and lush beauty. Wayanad, known for its beautiful hills, valleys, dense forests, mountains, and coffee/tea plantations is the perfect holiday destination in Kerala for nature lovers. Located on the southern tip of the Deccan plateau, this greenish spot is deal for a short distance drive from Bangalore. The best part of the drive itself is the lush green nature on the Kerala border following the Bangalore-Mysore highways. Our Drive from Bangalore to Wayanad A road trip is always exhilarating for travel lovers like me. When it is with our family, happiness will be double. ... read more

May 2011: Finally, the day came - the day to bid farewell to my 11 year-long life in the USA. Texas has been my home for several years and very close to my heart. But the time has come to leave a lot of good friends, my home in The Woodlands, and an ecosystem my family built in a few years. All I could carry with me was a lot of good memories. Sometime back, I wrote about our visit to a farmland vacation destination near Bangalore. Here in this post, I am sharing my experience of moving from the USA to Bangalore and how I ended up getting a farmland holiday home at Bangalore instead of moving to Kerala, my home state. I moved to the USA as part of work in 1999. It was ... read more

For different people, oceans can mean different things. For some, it may mean beaches and seashores with a lot of surface adventures. To others, it means something deeper than that. My entire perception of the oceans got altered in a major way recently – Thanks to Bond Safari of Kovalam in Kerala. One may have seen a lot of marine life videos from sources such as Discovery and Animal Planet and even YouTube these days. But when we watch such videos, we think that such activities are really complicated to be carried out by the majority of ordinary people who do not have much knowledge of the marine life. Thanks to Bond Safari, having such experiences are not impossible in Kerala anymore. During November 2017, I visited Kovalam and enjoyed the beauty of this coastal village ... read more

Asia » India » Kerala » Thekkady July 12th 2017

Since I started travel blogging, most of my trips were backpack trips without much prior planning. However, that's not the case when I go on vacation with family. Having 3 children, unless I choose a destination which has a lot of activities for children, my vacation would probably be spoiled. So, every time I plan a trip, the first challenge I have to face is, whether this is going to be a backpacking trip or a family vacation. This travel story is all about a backpacking trip to Kuttikkanam, which is an unspoilt holiday destination in the Kottayam - Kumily road, pretty close to Thekkady, the popular tourist destination in Kerala. A backpacking trip usually means business to me, combined with a break from the busy life in the office. That's the best part for a ... read more

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary A visit to the bird sanctuary was not in our itinerary but the owner of the resort where we stayed insisted we should visit the place. So, we made some changes to our travel plans and headed towards the bird sanctuary. The bird sanctuary is located along the side of Vembanad lake and is spread across about 14 acres of land, which used to be a rubber plantation in the past. This place is operated by Kerala Tourist Development Corporation (KTDC) and they run a resort called "Water Scapes Resort" within the premises of the bird sanctuary. The resort is located well within the woods and you need to go about 300 meters from the entrance to reach the resort. We didn't go to the resort but took the entry tickets for the ... read more

Kumarakom started getting attention in the tourism map of Kerala just a few years ago, after the visit by some of the national leaders to this place including the prime minister of the country. Even though this place is less than 2 hours drive from my home, I couldn't visit this place until recently. About Kumarakom Kumarakom is a lake town, surrounded by water bodies all over and is famous for backwater tourism. "Vembanattu kayal", the largest lake in Kerala occupies a major portion of this region. There are many small rivers finding its way through this small village to the lake. Kottayam is the nearest town. The major attractions here include Pathiramanal island, Kumarakom bird sanctuary and house boat cruises through the backwaters. Our trip to Kumarakom This time it wasn't a family trip. I ... read more

I had many backpacking experiences both in India and abroad but this one is special for many reasons. First, I traveled in a Bus instead of a Car. Second, this time instead of wife and children I preferred to go with friends. In last many years, especially since I got married this was my first trip without my wife accompanying me. Another reason leaving my wife and children back home was, as this was much of a business trip. We, gang of friends decided to go by bus and explore the place as well as some business opportunities. The bus journey was a wonderful experience. Driver was very nice man in his mid 40 or around. I thoroughly enjoyed journey sitting beside him. I was amazed with his knowledge of Munnar, the Country Resort and places ... read more

In the forests ranges of Malayattoor in Kerala found Bharanikuzhi waterfalls; it’s seasonal in nature. The awesome beauty wins hearts of travelers at very first glance. If you love nature and traveling come to watch the rendezvous of Bharanikuzhi waterfalls. I visited this place 3 or 4 times in past and all time I promise myself to revisit again. Here are my experiences sure nature lovers will enjoy reading. The beauty of Kerala lies in the green areas spread across length and breadth of the state. Incidentally, this place is not highlighted in the state’s tourist map yet. If those places started founding place in a tourist’s map, perhaps the real luster will be lost because of excessive human encroachment. The Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai) is major tourist attractions in Munnar. In my childhood days I visited there a few times. Then during my grown up years it was often a journey with friends especially during summer breaks. Recently I visited with my wife and kids and caught some glimpses from the area including mountains, rocks and of course Nilgiri Tahrs. Here are my experiences from our trekking to our visit to Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai), for sure, you will enjoy reading and then may be visiting too. The Eravikulam National Park is a major tourist site located approximately 13 Km from Munnar town in Udumalpet road (SH17). A small part of the park called Rajamalai is open for tourists. There are several mountains in the park filled with birds, bees, butterflies and animals. Endangered "Nilgiri ... read more

Mysore has always been one of the major tourist attractions in South India. My previous visit to Mysore was about 20 years ago, when I was in college. I still keep a lot of great memories of that college trip to Mysore and we remember some of the words from the tourist guide in the palace. After we moved from USA to Bangalore, we wanted to visit all of the major tourist attractions around Bangalore and Mysore was an obvious choice. Many people from Bangalore visit Mysore and return on the same day. However, considering there are several places to see in Mysore, it may not be a fun trip if you rush from place to place with a tight schedule in hand. Two days is ideal to see most attractions in Mysore. We wanted to ... read more
