Big Bird The photo of the large in-flight bird shows a turkey vulture, a carrion-eater. When I'm tyring to figure out if I'm seeing a turkey vulture or some other, I watch for a "wobble" in their gliding.
Solvang's great - I spent an afternoon there once; as you say, it is incredibly twee (I saw an all-year-round Christmas shop!), but also very convincing. It's hard to believe you're not in Denmark! Some of that Danish confectionery is delicious (especially the free samples!). My American relatives insisted we walk out of a restaurant there, after we'd been seated, complaining it was too pricey. The Englishman in me nearly died of embarrassment!
Ah JB, I LOVE Las Vegas !!!
We have not been in 5 years but we know it well. Actually there is a whole side to it that tourists many times do not see. Red Rock Canyon is beautiful as is a very great drive in the desert circling to Lake Meade. The drive up to Lake Charleston , lunch in a mountain Chalet as humming birds circle. Hoover Dam an unbelievable structure and the tour is great. River raft ride down the Colorado river for the day. Liberace museum is a Hoot !
Las Vegas is Disneyland for Adults. All glitzy and kitsch aside, one can lounge by a pool , go up 50 stories at the Stratosphere and as you found stroll around to watch other people. We don't gamble but find the desert air fantastic. Viva Las Vegas !
I agree with you completely about Vegas! Not my type of place at all. I spent 2 nights there (at the Excalibur, possibly the most tasteless of the lot!)...it was an experience, but not one I'd care to repeat.
One thing we did find out .... those prostitutes' cards make great 'Snap' or 'Happy Families' cards! It's even possible to devise a 'Top Trumps' game from them :-)
Royal Hawaiian My parents always stayed there. Saw many pictures over the years. Our great surprise a few years ago upon seeing it. Buildings had been built all around it, no more private beach feeling.
Oahu is just like going to a South Seas New York. Way too busy but the other side of the island is more secluded. Lovely drive around that side.
Hello Kitty Rules !!!
Mai tai or not Mai Tai...that is the question. So good to read your latest episode - began to think you'd forgotten about the blog. Just what we needed here in Kenninghall as the snow gently falls, cascading on the north wind and giving a nice 25cms thick blanket of pure white covering everything. So bad that we had to open a tin of lychees and make little pink cocktails with cream! Mai Tai eat your heart out - we've got voddie/lychee/genadine/ fresh cream cocktails a la Lanna! Still wish we were there though!
Whaler Nice Whale video. I just hope that with the way we are treating Mother Earth that future generations will be able to Whale watch.
It is a privilege to witness. Maui will always be a special place to me and now you all.
Welcome To one of the most beautiful places on earth Maui. And to a new day in America ! But please rum and coke, get a proper drink ! When you land in Ca. in the weeks to come, get some wine ! Be sure to go up into the mountains of Maui, stunning. Sorry, about the exchange rate, kinda, helps me in England !
Manly Of course, you would go to a Manly Beach ! Heard familiar female voice on The Sad Song ! Good to hear ! Sydney has a beautiful Harbor. Yes, saw the Cruise Ship, I missed my flight connection.
Impressed or what????? We really are SO impressed with you guys! Fantastic, no wonder Mrs Ant has been surprised by all the activity - and no mention of Voddie for days...you are feeling OK aren't you?
Wish we were there too - still freezing here - literally. You missed -9 the other night, being so cold was SUCH a pleasure, as I'm sure you'll recall, or perhaps not!
looking good batman Hey---you two are looking sooooooo well!!!!
Ant---a shadow of yerself---keep on 'till 'The Rainbows end and a big thanks for all the stuff!!!
Tarzan Dear Tarzan and Jane, I am most impressed with your tree climbing and bridge swinging. Disgustingly fit ! The coastal pictures are beautiful. They give California 101 a run for its money.
Garden Sheds Such lovely little "Garden Sheds " along the beach. I keep thinking it should be warmer down under ? The weather sounds like the "OZ" in which I live, Kansas ! All this healthy living ! Walking and eating less due to prices ! Johnny, we hardly know ye .
Howdy Kevin and I have had the man-bag discussion many times; the solution for a while was that I had a bag with enough storage for his stuff and mine; and he was quite willing to carry it. For some reason, it just seemed important to him that it was MY bag, not his. Very non-rational I think! Little planes, like elevators, huh? Thanks goodness for drugs, especially valium, which my hair designer was handing out to the whole shop last time I got my hair cut! :-)) As far as JB's grumpiness; I think that's just him embracing the freedom to be as he wishes. Isn't that what vacations are about? I find grumpiness quite liberating sometimes. HUGS.
I'm not jealous, envious, or green. I'm just not going to read anymore and go ack to dealing with drunken domestics just like sceans from eastenders. Such is the life of those that have to work for a living.
Glad you are having some more good experiaces, Happy Christmas to you both and hope the new year is as good for you as the end of this one. Alan and Chris
Man Bag Please make that a "Designer Man Bag " for him ! But he will still have you keeping track of things. I had to enlarge the picture of said man on the beach. Then I realized it was a "Doo Rag " on JB's head and not a wig ! Man Bag and Wig, Oh yeah ! Don't come to Kansas, Fred Phelps would be watching you !
Shakey I assume you were moving around, hence the shakey camera movements OR was that due to whatever substance makes you happy ! Lovely looking and I hear the bird songs. So sad you have to be down there when it is 5 degrees here in Kansas.

w Had to look quick to see which one of you was buying the glitter nail polish ! Great video, Sean being a Scuba driver is jealous of The Great Barrier Reef dive. Whenever I get in a lift I always look at the people, wanting to see who I will be stuck with when it jams !
fish n slips here Well its great fun reading each adventure, although I would prefer to be there done that thing, however funds not avalible lol. The pics are great but as its -5 here looking at the sun filled photos, warm looking waters while having the heating up full bore I should be waiting for you to visit the artic. That might make this place look warm. The dairy your keeping is not just good to read but very informational. I hope to pop down around SE Asia for our 25 wedding anniversary in a couple of years and with what I have read it helps us to look for place to go and not waste our time looking when we get there. Also I have a sister in queensland and she tells me how hot it is and also sends photos or the area. Keep it up mate and when you and the misses have time chill out with a barbie and a cold one. Take care T

Thanks Dee!
That explains why I saw it feasting on some long-dead corpse on the beach.
