This is going to be a pretty short entry. I finally finished the National Museum of Scotland on Monday! Tuesday was Burns day. Robert Burns is popular here since he was a Scottish author who celebrated Scotland in his work, including its landscape and Scottish dialogue. He also collected traditional Scottish songs for an anthology, reviving older Scottish culture. I didn't really do anything for Burns day on the day of, but Tuesday I am going to a Burns dinner which will have Scottish food, entertainment and Burns readings. Wednesday, I went to the National Gallery which had European artists as well as a big section on Scottish artists. I really liked the massive landscape paintings of Scotland. Friday, I went to the Museum of Edinburgh and the John Knox House. As its name implies, the ... read more

Friday, I decided to walk three+ miles into Leith. I wanted to see Dean's village which is only about a 15 minute walk away from the city center. While I was looking up the information for that, I read that if I followed the Water of Leith Walkway, I could get to the town of Leith which is on the water and where the Brittania is. I could have taken the bus, but the walkway was supposed to be scenic, and I wanted a little adventure. So I walked to Dean's Village, known for its picturesque setting. It's in Edinburgh but situated in a small valley with stone houses and windy cobble streets with the Water of Leith running below it. I went down the stairs to get to the walkway that ran alongside the water. ... read more

Saturday, I went to Edinburgh Castle with my friend Ada, who I met at orientation. We saw a bit of the National War Museum (though not as much as I wanted too, it was so extensive), and the War memorial which consisted of a few rooms with tall ceilings that had stained-glass, plaques, stone statues and wood engravings. We also saw the Royal Apartments where Mary Queen of Scots' bedroom was and where she gave birth to her son (in a cupboard!) who also lived in the bedrooms. There was also the Great Hall where dinners and state events and functions took place and still do today I believe (also take place in part of the Royal Apartments). Also, an exhibit on the history of The Honours which is the royal crown, sceptre, and sword of ... read more

Well hello again. So Tuesday night, I went to a comedy club with my flatmate Becky. There, I saw Daniel Radcliffe's look-alike (It wasn't just me! The comedian pointed it out and everyone in the audience agreed!) Sadly, it may be the closest I get to seeing Daniel Radcliffe but funny that I found his closest look-alike in Britain! Maybe he leads a double life as in Edinburgh student! Okay, you can stop your eye-rolling now. Wednesday, I didn't have any classes so I went sightseeing! First, I went to St. Giles cathedral which is where John Knox preached and is kind of a Westminister Abbey to Scotland. After, I checked out the parking lot where John Knox is buried ( I kid you not) and then went into the Old Parliament building. I walked up ... read more

Greetings from Edinburgh! I've basically just been settling in. The trip from New York to Paris was a little over 6 hours and then my flight to Edinburgh got delayed for an hour and a half and then the flight was just under 2 hours. But I finally made it and took the school service over to my residence hall. I live in a flat with a Scottish and a British girl and they both seem really nice. I'm in a single and down the hall is a kitchen/common area and a bathroom. The next day, Sunday, I went to the orientation. It was the usual stuff, an information session and a tour. Nothing exciting. Afterwards, I met the buddy that they set me up with. She took me to...drumroll...The Elephant Cafe... and informed me that ... read more
