After a satisfying bowl of raisin bran, we packed the car and headed north to the University of Washington to view the campus, which is renowned for the cherry tree blossoms this time of year. After driving around for what seemed like ages we finally stumbled across a parade of cherry trees in full bloom. They were a beautiful shade of a baby pink set against a back drop of green lawns and mountains…. Stunning! After the Naomi and Claudia photo shoot, we continued north to Skagit to the tulip festival. This really was a sight to behold, rows and rows of colourful tulips, they looked like Joseph’s technicoloured coat! The camera really didn’t do the colours justice, such was the vibrancy of the reds and pinks! This seemed to be a major tourist attraction as ... read more

Sabbath morning was spent visiting the ‘Breath of Life’ church in Seattle, where one of our previous Pastors in London is now the resident Pastor. He was unaware that we were travelling out to Seattle, so had quite a shock when entering the church to see us both sitting there! Enjoyed the morning visiting this very welcoming church, but due to time schedules we were unable to linger and enjoy ‘pot luck’ and catch up with Pastor as we would have liked to. Grabbed a bite to eat before heading out to Kim’s house, to pick her up for our drive to Mt. Rainier. It took roughly an hour to drive there through some very beautiful scenery. We chose to enter Mt Rainier National Park through Paradise, as the other entrance into the park was still ... read more

After a well appreciated sleep, we awoke to low clouds and rain. Looks like the dismal weather had set in for the day! Today we were meeting an old school friend of Liisa’s, Kim, who she was in high school with her eons ago at the hotel and then heading into Seattle for some sightseeing. As Kim was familiar with Seattle, we decided it would be a good idea for her to do the driving. Our first port of call was the Space Needle after driving around trying to find a place to park. Luckily not many people were out and about quite so early in the morning, so we didn’t have to compete with throngs of tourists. The view of surrounding Seattle as we shot up in the lifts in the Space Needle was amazing, ... read more

It was with a rude awakening that the alarm rang woke us up at 4:15 am Thursday morning, especially as we didn’t finish packing until gone 2am due to last minute bits and pieces being thrown together! Our taxi arrived in his nice minivan at 5:30 to take us to Heathrow and he regaled throughout the journey the pros of having Sat Nav on his van, not something that one is interested in at that time of day! Whizzed through check-in and a few hours later we boarded the plane to start our 10 ½ hour trip to San Francisco. Flying over Greenland was especially spectacular. The mountains and numerous massive glaciers were awe inspiring, and then there was the stunning scenery of Baffin Island and the cracks in the pack ice surrounding the area. Perhaps ... read more
