Shakira woke me at about 0715-she had been up and about for hours. I'd set my alarm for 0645, but had slept through it-that and all the horns, I must of been tired. As I'd not unpacked much, there was little to do apart from wash and change and head downstairs for breakfast. I didn't really fancy curry or anything else lined up on the buffet table. I don't know if I'd been reading too much into avoiding Delhi belly, but I'd read to stay away from food that had been left out or reheated, and apply the rule only eat if it can be boiled cooked or peeled. With that in mind I picked out a couple of bananas and put them in my bag for later on. Leaving the hotel, I can only liken ... read more

What a crazy place! The flights were fine although the Doha-Delhi one was just over 3 hours, and I was gutted with this as I thought it would be longer and planned to sleep, but between food service and crying babies it didn't happen. I'd done all my ringing round at Heathrow, to say my farewells, and did a bit of shopping and sat down to have some food. It was then I opened the card from Gareth, Michelle, and the boys reading 'There are just some things in life that just have to be done' and I got a little lump in my throat, not quite believing I was off on the first of many travels this year, that I have wanted to do for so long. I got through security no problems in Delhi ... read more

Hi all, unfortunately had to abandon the blog for the time being as there really isn't anywhere to write, and even if there had of been, it would have been impossible so it looks like it will be a post sailing write up instead! We arrived in La Coruna yesterday after a rough crossing. Initially we were planning to stop in France but wanted to get ahead of the weather so kept on going through the bay of biscay. My main focus has just been on trying to stay upright and brush my teeth twice a day-the crossing was rough and all but 3 crew have been as sick as a dog! It really was just the worst crossing, getting smashed every 30 seconds or so overnight-and it sounds so loud down in the Hull. Thankfully ... read more

As I type this, Daryl is fast asleep next to me having managed to keep awake all day, I on the other hand, had to have a couple of hours earlier since I woke up at 4am. Our last morning in Hawaii consisted of another good breakfast at Lulus, looking out to the beautiful Pacific Ocean and savouring our last moments of paradise. We managed to reunite the phone found on the pier last night, with a man who hadn't realised it was missing until his new bride informed him she'd had 4 missed calls and a text from 'him' that morning! They found us in Lulus and naturally were really glad to get it back. Somehow we managed to pack our Hawaiian holiday into our backpacks, and despite having minimal room for gifts, managed to ... read more

Sadly our final day in Hawaii is here. On recommendation from our own personal trip advisor Ali (who always seems to know a good place to eat) we went for breakfast at a cafe bar called Lulus which was just a couple of blocks away from our hotel, by Honolulu Zoo, and on the way to our destination for today: Diamond Head Crater. It was named so by the sailors back in the day, who mistook the sparkle in the sun for Diamonds as they approached Waikiki. It sits pretty much at the end of the beach, and one of the places on our list to visit (and in my book bought by Dinah & Bailey as one of the 500 Natural Places to visit in the world). Breakfast at Lulus was great, and set us ... read more

Today we decided to have another lazy day, which of course was nothing to do with the beers we'd had last night..... No, we'd booked to go to Paradise Cove for a Luau and show, and as the hotel pick up was 1530, we decided to stay local and hang around the pool. As we'd not managed to visit the Polynesian Cultural centre on the North Shore, we really wanted to go to a Luau whilst we were in Hawaii, and we'd read and heard that this one was a good one, so we booked it for this evening. It was also a nice chance for us to get our glad rags on and get dolled up, (Daryl even wore trousers instead of shorts!) seeing as we'd mainly just been cutting about in casuals etc all ... read more

We started our day with a bit of snorkelling at the cove opposite the beach house. It was brimming with life and Daryl got some fab pictures of Angel Fish amongst others. We chatted to a Kiwi girl who had also taken advantage of this lovely snorkelling site before heading onto her next destination. We had our final breakfast at the grill and bid farewell to the North Shore. Almost as soon as we left, a great dark cloud descended upon us and it started to rain (at this point I wanted to turn back and stay oop north.) We decided to head into Waikiki to see if we could leave our bags at the cheapy hotel we'd booked, as this would make it easier for us to get the bus back into the city later ... read more

Today we were up and at the grill for breakfast before heading down the windward coast which is on the East of Oahu. We have heard so many good things about this area and we weren't disappointed. Almost immediately as we drove the road from north shore to East, we were met with some of the most beautiful landscape I think I've ever seen. The mountains were towering green, whilst the beaches golden and the sea a clear blue, just breathtaking. En route we passed Kualoa Ranch http://www.kualoa.com which is where Jurassic Park and a few other movies were filmed. Had we had more time it would of been an interesting place to stop. We wanted to get to the beach and on recommendation headed for Lanikai which has consistently been voted amongst the top beaches ... read more

We felt like we'd been all day at Pearl Harbour since we'd arrived there so early, but in fact it was only a little after midday by the time we got on the road and headed to North Shore. This is the place for more amazing beaches where people come to surf some of the biggest waves in the world. There is also not much by way of accommodation up here, apart from Turtle Bay resort, which is amazing but very expensive. I'd googled some hostels in hope we could get booked into one, but I was a bit put off by the bad reviews of the closest one near Haliewa. I'd read it was dirty, staff were rude and unhelpful, and it was noisy with people coming and going all the time. I'd found another ... read more
