We've had the most beautiful weather this week, and done lots of gardening and lawn mowing. One day Alex and I took a picnic - and a dog - to the local bluebell wood for an hour or two. We've been home 4 weeks today, and now we've tidied up a bit, it does feel more like home. We've both been filling in application forms for jobs, and today went to an "open day" to see if we could get anything. We shall see. ... read more

Today being Mum's 21st(!!!) birthday, we headed down to Meifod with freshly baked scones stuck with candles, to wish her all the best, and assist in eating any chocolates she needed help with! Later Lynda and I went on a treasure hunt and barbecue in the village - turned out to be more of a 4 mile walk and barbie, but that was fine. It was lovely. ... read more

Robyn said we had to have a bonfire, so we rang all the family to invite them, then prepared the fire. Also, lots of potatoes, marshmallows, and bananas with chocolate. Then it rained!! So what, we went ahead and the fire blazed well - and after all it didn't rain much. What a send off!!! A lovely night. If you'd like pictures of the family indoors afterwards, look at Robyn'sblog, at www.travelblog.org/bloggers/wordy... read more

the last day of our tour dawned sunny and bright, so we sat beside the sea and remembered how lovely the coast is up here. then off to the honey shop for coffee, and on to see the Kauri trees at Warkworth. Finally, a sit by the river in Warkworth, before dealing with State Highway 1 for a couple of hours and getting HOME! What a relief, safe and sound and welcomed! ... read more

Once we discovered that there were 2 thermal villages, and that Sue and Steve were in one, and we were at the other, we made contact. Amazing that cousins who've met once before, 4 months ago, should find themselves in Rotorua on the same day. And lucky they each had mobile phones! We spent a pleasant afternoon wandering around by the lake in the sun, then arranged to meet for a meal later. After that, a 2 hours in the Polynesian Spa, soaking away the stresses of the day!!!!!!!, meant that I fell asleep as soon as we got back to the hostel, around 9.30. I'm getting good at relaxing! next day we all took the gondola ride, and Sue and I sat in the cafe with a wonderful view of the lake, while the men ... read more

We travelled up through volcano country yesterday, they are so impressive, the 3 active volcanos, and all covered in cloud as befits a true volcano. We arrived in Taupo this morning, a huge lake that fills a crater that blew up 1800 years ago. Also the town of the same name. Today we've looked at the craters of the moon - steaming fissures in the surface, and boiling mud pools. There are hot pools and mineral springs everywhere, and notices on the road to beware of steam! Also visited famous waterfalls, and surprisingly, some waterfalls that only get switched on 3 times a day!!! More later!! Tomorrow we're heading to Rotorua where apart from the obvious, we'll meet up with Sue and Steve (from Australia - over here for 10 days, its Sue's birthday present from ... read more
