November 1, 2006 We made it through our sweltering bus ride to Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia, to catch our train - actually to catch our next hot bus to Kapiri Mposhi to catch our train. We were so hot by the time we got to Lusaka that we ended up checking into the Lusaka Hotel right in the center of town on Cairo Road because it had airconditioning. For this luxury our accommodation cost went from $20 for the night to $90 for the night. It's amazing how little a $90 per night hotel gets you in Africa - [View Full Entry]

Baby playing on the tracks......
Buying food on the train
Hurrying to catch the train, arms too full

After making it back onto our bus after the Ngepi Camp we were much more relaxed and looking forward to experiencing Zambia. We knew that we were now about to enter the Africa we had been waiting for and we were right. During the 12 hour, sweltering hot bus ride we saw the landscape, temperature and way of life change before our very eyes. Nothing but small villages with mud huts for hours on end. No more stores to buy food, no more electricity and no more running water in the general way of life. I trusted that would be different [View Full Entry]

October 12, 2006 Ok..... so, I know not all of you are going to want to look at hoardes and hoardes of animal pictures, but you know me......animals, animals, animals!!! This is what I came to Africa for. So......if you would like to look at the massive amounts of pictures feel free to do so, if not, just carry on with your day - this way Jordan and I will have them on our blog as our own memories when we get home and you can skip it : ) Five days in Etosha National Park We finally brought ourselves to [View Full Entry]

October 19, 2006 The time has come to leave Namibia. We have the spent the past month here and have become quite attached. The country is so huge with so many different landscapes and things to do, you would never get bored here. Namibia can also be a very easy African country to travel with all the amenities of home if you want them - well almost all - efficiency is not yet an option, nor is luxury. It is hard to tell what makes it so different than home because you have everything you need yet it is only really [View Full Entry]

Hey everybody, this is Jordan......... We are in Livingstone, Zambia now (central Africa) and we really love this town. We really love Zambia, it will be hard to leave here. There is so much to do and it really feels like we are in Africa. Wow! Today was great, I did three really great things today. I did the flying fox, the gorge swing and abseiling. I will explain each one; the first one was the abseiling. Abseiling is repelling down a wall attached to a rope. Number two is the flying fox. This is where you are attached with [View Full Entry]

Hey Tan!!!! Happy birthday to you...............happy birthday to you................happy birthday dear grunt..........happy birthday to you!!!!!! Well, I am not sure what you did last night for your birthday but if you did not do too much, I certainly partied enough for the both of us. Only because it was your birthday of course. Rugby is very big here in Namibia and the top two teams were playing for a spot in the finals - it was the Blue Bulls vs. the Western Province. I was told I was to be a Blue Bulls fan - ok, a Blue Bulls fan it [View Full Entry]

After leaving Walvis Bay we had a little more energy. We headed over to the next town called Swakopmund which turned out to be a very developed holiday town (actually the one where Brangelina had their baby). It is a very quaint town with a great atmosphere and lots to do and see. We ended up staying here almost 9 days. However, you couldn't really tell you were in Africa. The drive between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay was amazing, nothing but sand dunes for miles and miles - except the ocean on your left hand side. It was a very neat [View Full Entry]

Overstating the obvious

So we are on the road to Sossusvlei. Other than the fact that I have no clean clothes and have not showered, I am feeling much better and am looking forward to reaching the dunes. We passed through a little town called Rehoboth and it felt like we were in the real Africa, I could tell because I was uncomfortable. But that's what it is all about, I like that feeling. As you get off the main highway and head into the little town the road became gravel again, the houses sparse with clothes hanging from the lines and children [View Full Entry]

Well, I finally left Chameleon Backpakers' today and Windhoek itself. I see that as of my last blog I intended to stay for one night until I could get a rental car together - that was a week ago. I woke up the day after the 27 hour bus ride feeling refreshed and little more comfortable in my surroundings, however it was still my goal to rent a car that afternoon and head out to the sand dunes in Sossusvlei. This was a slight problem because I didn't have any cash on me and I also needed to transfer some money [View Full Entry]

We left Cape Town yesterday and have just arrived in Windhoek, Namibia today after a 19 hour bus ride. Oh, pardon me, did I say 19 hours? I meant to say 27. Yes, after the breakdown on the side of the road ("Supa Quick" car repairs was not so supa quick) and the bus company not finishing the necessary paperwork to get us through immigration at 12:30 in the morning, the 19 hour bus ride turned into 27. At first Jordan was not liking the whole scenario but then I explained to him that you have not really experienced Africa until [View Full Entry]
