(These pictures are best viewed in full size) ZWELIHLE TOWNSHIP: Beauty and kindness in a world of despair I had a very eye-opening day today and one of the best so far on this trip. I was taken on a tour of the Zwelihle Township by an elder of the community. His name was Willy, a very enigmatic and charismatic soul. He has lived in the township for many many years and takes people through for a number of reasons. One is that it is his only source of income. Two, he believes that knowledge is power and informing white people [View Full Entry]

So...... I spent the past two days on a boat with loads of Great White Sharks! Well, the sharks weren't on the boat, just we were. It was fantastic! What a thrill. We arrived in Hermanus, a most beautiful seaside town about and hour and a half outside of Cape Town. My instincts were right that I would absolutely love this place, I just knew it all along. It was so refreshing arriving in Hermanus after spending one cold night in Swellendam, the armpit of South Africa (from my experience anyways). It was so beautiful travelling along the highway when the [View Full Entry]

Well, the past two days have been very exciting and exhausting. We finally left Plettenburg Bay and headed inland to this little town called Outsdhoorn. Don't ask me how to pronounce it, I have had many locals laugh at me when asking how to get there. This town is not very exciting but the backpackers hostel is amazing. It is called Paradise Backpackers and the name really says it all. I love watching Jordan doing his school work in the gardens with the owls hooting in the background. They have a really funny dog named Pheonix that will entertain you for [View Full Entry]

I know, I know...... so many animal pictures, but I cannot help it. These guys are so amazing and don't worry, I am almost past the animal portion of my trip! The little baby lions were incredible. They were so friendly and soft. They are white lions, which are still on the endangered species list. It was quite an experience being with the cheetah. It seemed like no problem before I went in but there in something instinctive that tells you that maybe you should not be in there with her. She was amazing though. I was glad it was so [View Full Entry]

Hey Annika, Just thought I'd sent a note to say "Happy birthday to you" (melodic)........ I was thinking of you today as we were doing our game drive at the Rhino Base Camp. It was fantastic - wish you were here! (Have you decided where you are coming to meet us yet?) : ) We are having a hard time leaving Plettenburg Bay, we are really loving it here - so so much to do. Looks like we are leaving in the morning though for an ostrich farm in Outdshoorn where you can ride ostriches. They also have this amazing cave [View Full Entry]

Well, I am finally in Africa. The past week has been so amazing, and tiring, that I find it hard to find time to write. We flew into Johannesburg a week ago and have been on the move ever since. Today was amazing, we went out on the Indian Ocean and cruised beside a pack of about 20 dolphins - I can't even describe the feeling. Being out on the open ocean in Africa with dolphins frolicking infront of you and beside you is the best feeling in the world. The guy that took us out said he hasn't seen a [View Full Entry]

Hey there, The dolphins and whales were such an amazing experience that I thought I would put the pictures on its own page and those of you that wanted to see them could. The experience was unforgettable. The pictures don't really look like much until they are maximized. I originally made this page because I wanted to put the video on it, but the webpage does not support my format which is really too bad because I have some amazing footage that pictures just can't capture. Those suckers are capital F-A-S-T, hard to catch on camera. Being there was magical. They [View Full Entry]

Well, I am now on the plane to Johannesburg. Fourteen hours of travelling to go before I finally reach Africa. Germany was originally added to my itinerary as a layover, I didn't chose to go and I wasn't very excited about it until I found the Bavarian Alps a couple of weeks before I left. Even then I had trouble trouble convincing myself to be excited. Was I ever wrong....... Germany was a complete whirlwind. I loved every minute there. There was so much sychronicity in my time there, it was unbelievable. Five days of divine timing. Jordan and I really [View Full Entry]

Holy smokes....... it feels like this day lasted a week. It was very eventful. We got off the plane in Frankfurt with no plans at all. We knew we wanted to get to the mountains but I didn't know what that looked like yet. Hadn't decided if we were going to take a train, a plane, a bus, a car (click our heels together) - I thought I would decide when we got here. It's been about 24 hours "on the road" so far and I haven't really slept that much yet. We've been to Seattle, Texas and Germany today. So [View Full Entry]

Well, it is 7:00 in the morning and we are finally on the plane - 11 hours after leaving my house with only two hours sleep. Our very first flight of many on our trip around the world. Jordan and Calvin stayed up all night - those two are die hards when it comes to not sleeping, they always have been. I have yet to meet a child who surpassed Jordan's and Calvin's ability to stay up until sunrise. I still can't tell which one of them is worse - I always fall asleep. Calvin, we will miss you so much!!! [View Full Entry]
