It seemed to be the week of goodbyes. Brendan went back down to Southampton on Monday and I also booked out trip to Dublin for St Patty’s day - bring it on!! After work on Tuesday, we all headed over to the Temple WalkAbout to say goodbye to Katie how is heading back to NZ for a couple of months. On Thursday I went to Warwick Avenue tube station to meet my best mate Suz (from Uni) and Matt who have just came back from travelling Europe for a month! and will be staying with us for a couple of days. We went home and had a big catch up about their trip and various adventures, and to meet the rest of my flat mates. Friday was the day of achievements. I spent half the day ... read more

Before I knew it was Wednesday and I was on the tubes heading towards Heathrow to meet Leah and her travelling friend Reg. After a long and loud greeting, we had a talkative journey back to Maida Vale and Leah’s new flat. I introduced her to her new flatmate, Irene, and got some dinner from her soon to be favourite takeaway place, the Chinese shop at the end of our road. I took the day off work on Thursday to show Leah the sights of London and teach her how to navigate around the big city. We headed down to Oxford Street to have a look at some of the large department and clothing stores including Selfridges. We meet my friend Andy (who also came to Edinburgh) to have lunch in St. Christopher’s Place before he ... read more

Our new temporary flat mate, Rob, moved into Leah’s room on Monday night. While we were chatting to him, I missed a phone call from NZ. I gave James a call back, and while I was talking to him I tried to multitask, and didn’t realised that I had stuck a red-ish top in with the rest of my whites (including my new top from Zara), with the washing machine set to a 90 Deg wash. So my clothes came out pink! After work on Tuesday, me and my new neighbour and work colleague, Carlo, went for a walk along the little canals in Little Venice, looking for somewhere to eat for dinner. Its a cute little area lined with canal boasts and little parks dotted along the edge. Unfortunately, we didn’t find anywhere to eat, ... read more

On the first day back in London I got a text from my flatmate, Irene, to say that our other flatmate, Scot has already moved out (without saying anything), and took all the cooking pots. Great! I made pasta for dinner in the one dodgy fry-pan that he had left and chatted to Irene about what to do about moving out next Friday! - We both haven’t found a flat yet, nor have seen anything we really like. I went to Irene’s work on Thursday to do some flat hunting with her, but still nothing too inspiring. I met Helen, Helen and Heloise at Wagamama’s in Leicester Square for dinner, then went to the Coliseum to watch the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Ballet with Khoi and Tarsh. The Coliseum was a beautiful old building that reminded me ... read more

After big night and only 3 hours sleep, I managed to drag myself out of bed and have breakfast in the hostel canteen before it closed. The whole group had also managed to muster by our scheduled leaving time of 10am. However, our bus driver was running late, and decided to delay our leaving for an hour. We waited around for 11am, thinking ‘I could be in bed right now’, and then we all jumped on the coach and headed out to Stirling. Our first stop was the Wallace Monument, high up on the protruding hill. The monument was built 1869 to commemorate Sir William Wallace, one of Scotland’s greatest hero’s. In 1297, he and his vastly outnumbered followers swooped down from ‘Wallace Pass’ to defeat the English forces at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. We ... read more

We got early on Saturday morning and headed down to Earl’s Court to find our random meeting point down the road from the tube station. Typically, the coach arrived while Helen and I were off getting food, but we were soon on our way up North. We stopped in the pretty region of Cumbria, near the Lake District, for Lunch and arrived at our hostel in Edinburgh in the early evening - 10 hours later. Our room was pretty sweet with all new furnishings. We dumped our stuff then Helen, Klaus, Andy and I when to check out Edinburgh and walked over to Princess Street to see the festival’s carnival. After dinner at a local pub, we went down to ‘The Three Sisters’ bar where the rest of our tour group were meeting. We danced the ... read more

There is no public transport on Christmas Day so we all headed over to Helen’s flat in Fulham on Christmas Eve to have a bit of a sleepover before Christmas Day. I said ‘Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’ to Irene, who is heading over to Prague and Paris for the festive season. We finished preparing the Christmas decorations around the flat then started watching a Christmas movie on TV while we waited for the others to arrive. We played Cranium, Mafia and a few other games through the afternoon, and then the boys: Josh, Chicken Little (Craig) and their newly arrived friend Richard, came over for a few Christmas drinks in the afternoon, before catching the last tube home (in the hope they would not get stuck here!) Matt and I went down to the ... read more

I managed to turn off both of my alarms while still half asleep on Monday morning, so was forced to catch the late train to High Wycombe - a great start to the week. Emily left to go back to Australia on Tuesday, so had a chat with her before heading off to work. The temperature has severely dropped since last week - just as Grant said the London Lite newspaper predicted. Suz later told me that is was only 2 degrees this morning! Suz and Matt came over for dinner that evening, I showed them my new house and we discussed our possible holiday in January maybe to Blackpool or the Cotswolds. I found myself walking back to the train station via the mall in the vague hope of a temporary mild defrosting of my ... read more

Girl's Christmas Lunch

I bowled up at the train station on Monday morning to find that the train schedule had changed, I assume to the winter time table. I spent lunch time shopping for decorations to Christmasify my desk at work (although no where near up to my usual standard, but I didn’t want to scare my new work colleagues quite yet). Helen, Heloise and Grant came over for dinner on Tuesday night before meeting Matt at Notting Hill to watch the new James Bond movie: Casino Royale. Unfortunately our quests for a ‘coffee’ prior to the movie was short lived due to the plague of chain coffee houses such as Starbucks and Nero. However, Casino Royale was brilliant! I loved every minute of it!.. Heloise said that she has never been to the movies with someone so vocal ... read more

I managed to finish my Christmas shopping ready to send back to NZ on Monday plus book our New Years trip to Edinburgh for the Hogmanay Festival. Monday night I was back at Bar Salsa, and convinced Klaus to come and check it out as well. I started looking for a new flat to live in, as our current flat will be renovated and we have to move out by 12th January. However, I have not found anything promising yet. I received a call from out client at Thames Water on Wednesday asking for the Specification Document, associated plans and drawings by the end of the day! (A big ask!) So I had a busy day ahead of my with my job manager being away. I got home on Thursday to find Scott telling me that ... read more
