a few words In which language are you speaking? Is Mandarin spoken by most people in Taizhou? or do they speak other tongues?
Sorry about my silly questions! I used to follow your blog some years back and I was pleased to find it again.
Best regards from France and congratulations to TTC.
some advice Hello,Hans!I am one of your students majoring in English Teaching of TTC.Just now I read your Chapter125.Your article is easy to understand and our school is alive in your writing.I think it would be better if you give us an account of some stories happened between you and your students. In my eyes, that could be more active and alive.Besides,I'd like to point out a small mistake In the 7th paragraph of Chapter 125.In fact, there are seven departments and two pre-college departments in our school." English, Korean, German and Japanese, Experimental Primary-teacher Education" you have mentioned in your writings are just some majors in Foreign Language Department.I think you must be mistake these majors for departments. If I made any mistakes in my comments, just forget it.

What an inspiring exhibition! But then, some of the pavilions have got the strange shapes which are a bit too abstract or distorted. The Spanish one looks like some collapsed honeycombs or crushed rice-washing baskets(made of bamboo), and the British one a silver porcupine, bringing up the imagination of a heavy bearfur hat of a horseguard. Perhaps, simply I'm a peasant and unable to understand properly.
The photo of that old traditional rail station does bring up a bit of nostalgic melancholy. It's such a commom sight in Germany, as if it's been standing in lonelyness over the centry somewhere in a quite suburb of a town, could be Cottbus, or Siegen wherever, loyally greeting its few passengers every day; Whereas in Qingdao, this ever crowded station has witnessed many historical events, which might be forgotten, but never erased.
Our modern life is a madly spinning roller coaster, so was it of the old time. Luckily, these unique landmarks have survived and are well-preserved. A great legacy for the generations to come!
A very pleasant piece to read and enjoy.
Hainan is a very great place to visit, especially due to its natural environment. It will be best for you to even check out corners like Wenchang for chicken rice. Lifestyle there is really different but special. And seafood is really cheap. Hope that you will visit Hainan again to see more since i think you have missed most of the wonderful things there. ^^
Magnificent again Hello Hans,
OH, IF I was just 20 years younger how I would love just a month or two of your experience at Taizhou. The photos capture the moments... the blazen colours of costume, performance and 5000 year Culture, but best of all, the faces of all those wonderful people. About now you will see the ink turn a brighter shade of green.
Visited Expo in May, there is a possibility I may be going back with our delegation for a few days in August to assist at the NZ Pavilion. Make sure you get to visit this vast site... you need a week to see it all. OK, take care...kevin
so perfect Schneider! It's as if you read my mind from across the world. I was actually going to email you this week to ask information on teaching English in other countries because I have two friends who are very interested. Thank you for the post! I have forwarded this to them in case they are interested in teaching at Taizhou Teachers College .
nice photos Hi, hans, you made a wise decision, it is a good time to visit Qingdao, enjoying the beautiful scenery and the cool Tsingtao Beer, wish you continued happiness in China!
nice photo i visited expo last week in shanghai, visited japen pavilion, it taken 3 hours for enter, that is Crazy. long line! also visited some pavilion, i think Britain pavilion is very boring.hehe
take care. Will
Brings back memories Yet another great blog, Hans! Looks like you had much better weather for your visit than I did a couple of years ago. I too enjoyed the city of Qingdao. One picture that sticks in my brain is that of locals arriving at the little dumpling cafe near where I was staying with plastic bags (normal bags as are given out at supermarkets) and filling them with beer. I was fascinated that there was no spillage or leakage!! Still luke warm beer out of a plastic bag doesn't really send my lips smacking! What about you?

After 38 years as a Foreign Language Teacher and Foreign Language Dept. Chair at Coral Gables Sr. H.S., and A.J. Professor of German at the University of Miami, I have left Florida in June of 2006, where my home is in Miami Beach, Florida, USA. I have just signed another year's teaching-contract (my 8th year now) with Taizhou University in the city of Taizhou, located about 3hrs north of Shanghai, in Jiangsu Province, CHINA.
I thought it would be informative for others and rewarding for me personally, to log the progress of my efforts from beginning to end, as a Travel and Photo Jo... full info
