Hello all. I'm writing this from our last destination in India, New Delhi. Funds have finally run out and not wanting to take any part time work around here we are heading back to England. Planning to buy some warm clothes before we touch down. Goa was interesting, relaxing and everything that we needed after a first month traveling the south. After a couple of weeks we jumped on an overnight train to Kerala and this regions capital, Trivandrum. We were meeting my dad (Ian) there who had come out to spend a couple of weeks with us. He would be [View Full Entry]

How's my Glamour?

 Asia » India » Goa » Colva
Greetings! We are writing from the lovely Goa with its gorgeous beaches and relaxed holiday feel. We're renting an apartment and it's refreshing to have a 'home' for more than a couple of days!! Since we last updated we have travelled around the southern tip of the country and moved inland to the mountains for respite from the baking heat! It has been a fantastic introduction to the country and we have met some interesting characters along the way! Most of these have been very helpful and self assured men who don't really know the answers to your questions but will [View Full Entry]

Hi All, So here we are, last destination en route and what a destination!!! We are currently in Pondicherry to the south of Chennai and are fast on our way to becoming curry junkies!!! ohhh bliss Leaving Laos via the southern most and little used border crossing into Cambodia we were surprised to find that visas and border stamps out of Laos and into Cambodia all cost 11 or 21 US dollars. All transactions included a 1 dollar add on fee which went towards the officials beer money. One guy actually asked us how many people were on our bus and [View Full Entry]

Tranquilo Is The Word

Hi everyone! Here is our latest from Laos. We both absolutely adore this country. It has such a laid back atmosphere due to the simplicity of life and the happiness of its people. Nobody is in a rush to get anywhere, as its just not required. This can be quite difficult for us to grasp when we are used to having everything organised and on time! On a recent bus journey, what should have taken 4 hours, took double that because we went back to pick so many people up from several places along the way. The concept of missing the [View Full Entry]

Hello all. Hope that everyone is ok and enjoying summer back at home!! Since out last entry we have trevelled through Thailand at breakneck speed and now find our selves in the altogether more relaxed atmosphere of Laos is the lovely town of Luang Prahbang. When were left you the last time we were heading for Phuket. We were dropped off in Kata beach at the bottom of a massive hill which the driver flatly refused to drive us up to reach our accomodation unless we handed over 200 baht. We obviously weren't too keen on this idea and an argument [View Full Entry]

Howdy! Sorry we haven't updated the blog for a while but we were too busy sunning ourselves to bother. We have moved on to the beach bum period of the year where we just sit on our jacksees all day- quality!! This all began moving up the east coast then on The Perenthian Islands, just off the north east coast of Malaysia. Beautiful, very beautiful. Accommodation was a beach hut on the 'big island' which wasn't that big really. There are no roads on these islands and the high season hadn't quite started so it was relatively quiet. The sand was [View Full Entry]

Howdy! Updating you on the rest of our time in Borneo and beyond. It happened to be the Harvest Festival for many of the the tribes in Sabah so we took a bus to a small town called Tambunan to try to experience the real deal, rather than staying in the more tourist orientated Kota Kinabalu. On first impressions it was rather quiet and didn't look like too much was happening and we were beginning to regret coming away from everyone else. On further inspection we found an area with 6 longhouses which had been constructed especially for the event and [View Full Entry]

Stepping off the plane at Singapore we were blasted with the tropical heat that we will be in fro the rest of our travels. The temperature this close to the equator hovers at around 30 - 32 degrees and the humidity is generally pretty damn high. Singapore is a small island state lyig at the bottom of the Malay penisular. In former times it was a super important trading 'entrepot' for the british in Asia. It was given its independence in the 60's and the first Prime Minister took somewhat of a Iron grip of the place which meant that some [View Full Entry]

After leaving Hastings the skies opened and revealed a rather concerning leak in the back door of Big Blue! Boo! First day back on the road and we had a soggy bed. We were headed up the Eastern Coast of the North Island in search of surf and a bit of true Maori culture on the East Cape. The East Cape is one of the few places where they did not sell (or were not forced to sell) their land to the European settelers. As such it has retained a definite Maori heritage. There are lots of Maraes which are the [View Full Entry]

Yo! For the past 5 weeks we have been earning a crust and honing our apple picking talents. We were advised to contact Phil and Kirsty who own an orchard on the outskirts of Hastings. Unfortunately, we missed the Royal Gala harvest but as they are so kind they sorted us out for work on a friend's organic orchard until the Jazz were ready to be picked. The organic place was well out of town and in a really peaceful area. We could park the van at the farm and use the amenities (see photo attached!) It took a few days [View Full Entry]
