I was born in San Francisco and lived in the Bay area as a child until I went to school in a small town called Sebastopol in Sonoma County. Then my mother and I moved back to the Midwest where she was from when I was young (Northern Illinois). I was fortunate to travel back to California to visit my father and aunt on school breaks. I also took a few trips back with my dad that taught me the "creative art" of travel. Who would have ever known you could return rental cars half-way across the country for free (and that's how we did it)? I spent some vacations as a babysitter for my kid cousins while traveling through the East with my uncle in his semi. There were some summers in Wyoming where I saw a few of the most beautiful unknown wonders of the world. I've been to Disneyland and Disney World and everything in between Kissimee and Anaheim (and mostly on free vouchers attained by family members). Niagra Falls were amazing and I don't remember my first trip to Mexico (I was a baby) but I long to return there year after year...and I have, many times, for less than five hundred dollars! I've been to Vegas a dozen times and swear it off at every departure but somehow am lured back by it's glitzy power time and time again. I believe I've traveled or stayed in every state in the intercontinental U.S. except for maybe New Mexico (which reminds me I must go there). I loved Washington D.C. as a teenager and can't wait to go to back. We stopped there on our way to Myrtle Beach once. I'm old enough to have been in the crown of The Statue of Liberty but yearn to see the sky-line after 9/11 so as to pay my respects in person. Florida and Texas have kept my heart for years because it's warm there like it should be. Recently I've gotten to know Minnesota (Mayo Clinic), Wisconsin (boating and the Dells), and Michigan (ski chalet in the U.P.). Whoever invented skiing should be shot, but I love the nineteenth hole at the bottom of every hill. Most of my travels were done as a child and then I took about a decade off (school, kids, poverty, etc.). And I never take for granted that my backyard is Chicago, one of the greatest cities on the planet and my portal to the world via O'Hare International Airport. I do NOT like to spend a lot of money on travel, but am heavy hearted at the thought of leaving this world before I have seen it all. Perhaps it was the gypsy upbringing...but I have devoted my life to exploring as much as humanly possible in the least expensive and feasible ways. I commit mindless hours to internet searches on the best deals I can find to ANYWHERE...for the sheer thrill of it. Most of the time I just dream about the destination, but once in a while (when the stars align) I BOOK IT!!! The best travel lesson I have learned I got from "My beautiful Jamaican Babies" and I credit them for opening my eyes to the true beauty of travel: It's not about loving the place you go as much as loving who you meet there! I look at my travels as "somewhere magical over the rainbow" and each trip I try to find something new to add to my pot of gold.

DEFINITELY DO DISNEY! Anyone who has ever been to Disney can attest to the fact that every square inch is charmingly enchanted and magically alluring. It's like Tinkerbell wakes up each morning and sprinkle's fairy dust on every single visitor. I have to admit I was apprehensive about long lines, mediocre food, and spending too much money. However, it only took one look into my son's bedazzled gaze to realize that Mickey's mystical spell was a good thing. At a time when we were trying to convince our kids that Santa is real and a big bunny leaves a basket of goodies, Disney leaves no doubt that there is still magic in this world. Even with a group of nearly 20 people (which was our family) there was excitement for every age. It is the ultimate ... read more

I love weddings. Especially ones where there's a vacation in it for me. Even skeptic's have to admit it's emotional when two people forge their bond as husband and wife. I'm not sure what sentiment is being felt, but it's emotional none the less. I always look for that sparkle in the newlywed's eyes. You know, the one where they still want to rip eachother's close off every time they're in the same room! This trip is about THAT couple. If I didn't believe in romantic destiny before them, I certainly do now. Some people are absolutely meant to be together and I'm so glad Adam and Jill figured that out. AND it got me to Cabo! I do, however, have to give you a little pretext so you can become as enamored of this couple ... read more

Laid back and Leisurely My husband has been telling me for nearly nine years that Grand Cayman Island is the most beautiful place on earth. For his 40th birthday I was going to rent out a go-cart track for him and all of his buddies and found out it was going to cost about $3000. I had been saving for a while so it wasn't really the money that I was worried about, but I just kept asking myself, "What am I going to get out of this?" Just kidding, but it didn't take too long before I convinced myself that "Hey, we never went on a honeymoon. Heck, we've never gone anywhere alone with each other." Could we actually make it a whole vacation with just the two of us? The answer after returning from ... read more

First family vacation with Adam, Jill, Chad, Tina, Jens, & Trudy! Wouldn't have had it any other way! I know so many people that stop on cruises in Jamaica, but unless you are land bound for more than one day I don't know how you could truly appreciate this amazing country. We went the all-inclusive resort route on this trip (RIU) which can be perfect when traveling with a group of friends. You can eat and drink when you want without really ever having to coordinate anything. After all, you are on vacation and who wants to plan too much? If you are like my husband and can drink over a hundred dollars a day it's definitely worth it! That being said, we really only saw a small portion of this incredible island, but what we ... read more

What's not to love about this city? I firmly believe that real female bonding is a necessary component to the survival or at least sanity in a woman's life. Now let me define real female bonding: "The close friendship that develops between two or more women, often as a result of intense experiences, as those shared in long drunken weekends with minimal exposure to testosterone that could interrupt this celebration of companionship." Now that's my definition, but I truly feel there are needs that woman have that can only be understood and met by other women. Don't get me wrong...I love men...straight men, gay men, transgendered men. It doesn't matter. Yet the bond between close girlfriends is a sisterhood that seriously should not be f#!@ed with! A group of women on a mission is a force ... read more

Being that this is my first entry on Travelblog, I thought it might be a good idea to say that my first few entries are going to be about places I have visited in the past. I am going to the Cayman Islands at the beginning of December and will certainly share what I hope to be an amazing experience, but at present I have decided to document destinations and adventures that have already taken place. This is mostly for my own benefit. I do not ever want to forget why I have chosen to skip expensive clothes, clip coupons like a mad woman, sometimes skimp on food, and be the frugal bitch that everyone knows I am when it comes to purchasing anything. I am the clearance queen and I do it because I ... read more
