Geo: 47.0457, 8.30824Today we slept in a bit, had our free breakfast at the hotel (most hotels in Europe offer it) and took the city bus to Hergiswil to the glass factory. One of the original glass manufacturers in Europe, we watched them make things out of glass the old fashioned way. Mom tried glass blowing herself and she's carrying around the glass globe she made. She wants to get it home. We took the bus back into town. The train would have done this in 10 minutes but the track was out of order this week. Then we walked around the old town. The pastries here are fantastic! My favorite, strudel of all kinds, and it is everywhere. We walked across the Chapel Bridge, an old wooden bridge spanning the end of Lake Lucerne. We returned ... read more

Geo: 47.0457, 8.30824We left Interlaken at 7am on the train to Lucerne. Nice ride with beautiful scenery. Got to Lucerne at 9am and went straight to the hotel, only a block away. We were too early to check in but we left our luggage there and started out the day on Mom's favorite, a boat on Lake Lucerne. We bought tickets for the Mt. Pilatus tour which consists of an hour boat ride to Alpnachstad where we board the cogwheel train and climb 5500' in 40 minutes. Had to wait 2 hours for our turn to board the train. Quite a ride! Then we took an aerial tram from the peak down to Frakmuntegg where we stopped for a while so I could take my toboggan run. It's Switzerland's longest and pretty fast too. Over a ... read more

Geo: 46.6886, 7.86354Since we have both been falling asleep on the trains or any other time we sit down, we skipped the 6:30am train to the 14000' Jungfraujoch and slept in till 9. Took off to railway and found out that trip had sold out an hour earlier. So we decided to go to the Schiltorn, the 12000' restaurant where they filmed the 007 movie "In Her Majesty's Secret Service". To get there, we went by train, cogwheel, funicular and tramway. It too was in the clouds so the view wasn't good from the very top but beautiful most of the way up. We had soup and salad in the revolving restaurant at the top. We walked though the village of Murren and took pictures of the village and parasailers above usWhen we got back to ... read more

Geo: 46.6855, 7.8559Up at 5:00am and out the door in 40 minutes. I had to haul the luggage down two flights of stairs but rolling to the train station was downhill. Mom got coffee for us. She knows I like mine weaker she asked for it to be cut in half and they did. Gave her half a cup! Whatever. Had another quick change of trains. I have found that just because you take the 2167 from one town to another, it doesn't mean that you won't change trains. It could be several trains. Backtracked from Zermatt to Montreux and then the Golden Pass from there to Interlaken. Beautiful scenery. Hotel Interlaken is very nice. It's 4 star but close to rail station. Nice room with balcony overlooking park with koi pond. Mom loves that. Ditched ... read more

Geo: 46.0193, 7.74603We left our hotel this morning at 5:30am so to be sure to catch our train to Geneva at 7:06. The desk clerk at the hotel arranged to have a cab pick us up and I gave him the instructions. I should have looked at my papers more closely but I rattled off Gare d Nord and the cab driver questioned but took us there anyway. 30 euros later we arrived but couldn't locate our train. That's because it was in St Lazare. 15 more euros fixed that. Good thing we had plenty of time and Euros. Rode the TGV and that was fun and fast too.Transferred to two more trains, one which we only had 6 minutes to go down a ramp, across to another platform and back up, I'm pushing all the ... read more

Geo: 49.4424, 1.09849Up with breakfast at the hotel and out the door by 7:30am. Metro to St. Lazare station, got our ticket activated and went on the train, first class. We're big shots so few people were in our carriage. We had another mishap in Rouen. We got to our first station. I was in the bathroom and Al only had one gentleman to ask if we were in the right station. Unfortunately, he only spoke French and I was not there. Al thought he said next station. Haha. WRONG. That was the train station..so now we are on the training heading away from Rouen but with the luck of God stepping in, the train in front of us had engine problems and stopping our train at a "off the wall" stop. We found out there ... read more

Geo: 48.8567, 2.35099We got up late. Too tired. We missed Segway trip but that didn't break my heart though. Haha. Then we went to the Eiffel Tower. We walked past at least 1000 people cause we got special advanced tickets...great for getting on but when we got to 2nd level elevator we were in with the 10,000 of people so we opt to just go back down,,when we got to the bottom we met our first gypsy trying to get money out of me. Al saved me from that one..we got on metro and went to mont maitre for some shopping and check out funnicular. I bought souvenirs. We then took metro back to hotel. We found a grocery store and bought dinner to eat at the park. Then back to hotel to just sleep as ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097The plane trip was nice. 10hrs but got some sleep. Mom was walking in the people mover so slow that I was passing her on the floor beside her. Took the RER from the airport to Gare d Nord train station where we transfer to Metro. That's where my plan went down! The station is under construction an to get anywhere you have to go up and down stairs. They're everywhere. I had to carry Mom's 50# suitcases and it was killing me. And if I went the wrong way and we had to go back, she was mad. What about me?So we get to the hotel and they had an elevator but for only one person at a time or suitcase only. We got to the 4th floor ((which is 5th in Europe). Then ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Up this morning at 4:30am for a quick run to the shop and back by 7. Did some last minute organizing, garbage cans down from the street. Forgot my Euros for the airport so we'll need to get them in Paris. The super shuttle guy was a beauty. He was afraid to drive down the driveway but once he got going, he drove 90 miles an hour. So fast he missed the 238 freeway and hwy 92. We took the scenic route. It's almost 2pm and we're getting a sandwich and salad at the airport. $20? We drink water. So far uneventful through check-in and security. We had "Priority Boarding" with our American Express card so we went to our own line with no one in it. Saved at least an hour! Now to kill ... read more
