| 4th November 2009 Carie Wagner | Demopolis - From: Out of the River and Into the Bay Demopolis, the City of the People, was founded by a group of French expatriates, many of whom came to the United States after fleeing a slave rebellion on the sugar plantations of Haiti.[1] Arriving first in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they petitioned the U.S. Congress to sell them property and received permission to buy four townships at $2 per acre with the provision that they cultivate grape vines and olive trees. Following advice obtained from experienced Western pioneers, they determined that Alabama would provide a good climate for cultivating these crops. By 14 July 1817, a small party of pioneers had settled at White Bluff on the Tombigbee River, at the present site of Demopolis, founding the Vine and Olive Colony.[2] |

| 28th October 2009 Big Sister | Your old work station - From: Down the Tennesse -Tom Bigbee Waterwy Hi, I'm also traveling and for the past 5 days have driven by Walter Reed - we're staying in Silver Springs and Brian is straight south of us, along Georgia Ave., so our route takes us by the hospital. Guess it is going to be closed and the facilities moved to VA. I reconnected with a Concordia friend who lives in Alexandria, VA - hadn't seen her for 33 years and we had a great visit to Mt Vernon with her. Headed to Gettysburg today and will look for some Quaker Burial Grounds where Dillons are buried (Grandma Cook's line). ENjoy your posts a lot and have passed them along to Paul and Brian. Critter count - 1 cat in Brian's apt. |

| 19th October 2009 Carie | Sweet Pictures!! - From: More Sailboat Racing Thanks for sharing the beautiful sailboat pictures. It reminded me of a time when I was driving to go to back to UW-River Falls. I always headed up the MN side from LaCrosse to Red Wing and crossed over back to WI. At Lake City, MN the lake was white with sailboats! There had to be at least fifty. It was so beautiful. My remaining years at school I would drive and watch anticipating and wanting another glorious view but never saw it again. Have a great trip. I am enjoying following your adventure. carie |

| 15th October 2009 Larry Daiekan | Enjoy the warm air - From: To Mobile Bay via Land Hi Wayne; I remember seeing fort Morgan from the other side last summer. The transmission went out, and we sailed about 500 yards from the fort, which seemed to last forever. Be sure if you are sailing west from Mobile Bay, to sail out to the light house before turning to starboard. Shallow water! Fairhope is a great community. While you are there, be sure to go to "Landry's, home of the throwed rolls in Foley, about 25 miles from Fairhope. Enjoy your trip, and stop by when you can, Larry |

| 23rd September 2009 Carie Wagner | Happy Consultant - From: Planning to Sail South This sounds too cool! I hope you have a blast. You are guilty of making me think about retirement and committing to a timeline ( 8 - 9 years from now). Take care and enjoy. Can't wait to see the pictures. |
| 17th August 2009 Doc Doolittle | Ben there [ kind of ] - From: Mississippi Cruise Part 2 I've taken two trips on the Mississippi [ in the 80s']. A 14' Jon boat from Harpers Ferry to The Quad Cities, and an 18' Bowrider from Muscatine to St Louis [ then up the Il river to Peoria]. Great fun camping on the islands, cooking out, swimming and "bathing" in the River. I have actually boated on every pool from Redwing to St Louis, and I can tell you that the stretch you were on is the most beautiful part. I've lived in five different places on the Mississippi, and I am a regular "River Rat". Funny though, I have yet to own a boat myself. The bowrider was my brothers, and the Jon boat was my friends. If you do the rest of the River, be sure to buy the book called "Quimbies"[SP?]. It is a great help for River travel.....Doc |
| 14th March 2009 Big Sister | Living the Good Life - From: Carribean Cruise Part II Hi, Sounds as if you are having a great adventure. Camo clothing forbidden, how interesting. We're down to our last 2 1/2 weeks in the AZ sun so it's all downhill from here. Always enjoy your travel writings. I'll have to take a trip on Google EArth and see where you've been. Have a good trip home. |

| 13th April 2008 Big Sis | If you are smart . . . - From: First Week of Wayne's Retirement you will stay south for a while longer. The weather is lousy so you might as well continue to soak up the sun. Looks like a great trip. We stopped in Charleston once on our way to Florida and enjoyed the Yorktown, but didn't have time to go out to Fort Sumter. Welcome to retirement!! |
| 15th August 2007 Karen S | You're almost sourdoughs! - From: The Ride Home Enjoyed following your trip and seeing your pics. You must have done almost everything you had planned and then some. Too bad the salmon weren't running all that well. You'll have to have 2 months next time to be there when the runs are strong. Hope the two "sourdoughs" can adjust back to civilization. |
| 14th August 2007 Tom | Thanks - From: The Ride Home Thanks for keeping us posted and welcome back safe and sound (or is it half crazy). It was nice reading the adventures. I should have had you leave the pickup on #90 by Albert Lea. I have to move the whole family to Winona and Faribault, beds, tables, sofas etc. |
| 1st August 2007 Karen S | Don't stay too long in Valdazeeze! - From: Fishing in Valdez Glad you got to go out on Prince William Sound and see a lot of marine life. Those pinks can be fun to catch but wish the silvers would start running. Next trip if you don't run into any this time. If you stay at Tolsona Wilderness campground again say hi to Graham and MaryAnn for us. We taught with them for many years. Though we didn't frequent Grandma Ole's I know Gary taught her boys. Did you see she also sells office supplies? You've had the pleasure to meet some of the Glennallen characters! |
| 29th July 2007 Geoose | In Glennallen - From: Well On Our Way We bypassed the rough road nearbetween Whitehorse and Tok by going to Dawson City and taking the Top of the World Highway. That road wasn't goo,but we didn't expect a good road. We tried fishing the Gulkana at the Richardson Highway bridge. No luck. One fellow their said he had seen some Reds swimming by. WE are staying at the Tolsona Wilderness Campground. A ver nice place. And they have free hot showers which we are in dire need of. We drove up to your old school. That have a big building project going on. I guess they can aford it now that they got rid of all the expensive teachers. When was Dudley's funeral? Take care, Wayne and Al |
| 19th July 2007 Karen S | How's the AK Hwy? - From: Well On Our Way Glad to hear all is going well.
