Hey Kids, Sorry for the delay in posting our last blog, but we have been way too lazy since getting home to do much but see our friends. On our last four days in Bangkok, we shopped as much as possible. We love Bangkok, it is an amazing city, incredibly well set out, clean (we stayed in Sukhumvit, not all of the city is that clean), functional, and cheap. It also has beautiful sun sets every night, probably due to the hig level of pollution in the city. We caught the sky train everywhere we needed to go, never waiting more than 2 or 3 minutes for a train. We went shopping everyday and also bought all our toiletries and supplies to bring home because it was about half the price of Australia. We did little ... read more

How do you love and hate somewhere at the same time? We arrived in Malaysia again, this time with more open minds about actually trying to enjoy this country that we had disliked so much because of the people. At the airport in Bali we met a guy called Jack, from England, who we ended up befriending and stayed the night with us to share the cost. After arriving at around 8pm, we took the 9RM ($4.50) bus from the new Low Cost Carrier Terminal into KL Sentral. Air Asia have a new terminal that is so bad, it has not enough seats, NO ATM, and planes seem to be delayed for even longer! Stupid Air Asia. Anyway, we caught a taxi to a hostel that some friends recommended, although we decided not to stay there, ... read more

We have both recovered quickly from hospital, and unfortunately the doctor said that there was nothing that we could do to avoid getting sick, because even the cleanest of restaurants can carry the bacteria on their dishes, in the water… anything really. It doesn’t help that most Asians spit everywhere and pick their noses. It sucks, because after the first time we were so careful, and it is not even our fault that we got sick again. So we have just spent one week in Bali, we didn’t even rinse our toothbrushes under the water because we just cannot afford to be sick again and lose more time as it is quickly dwindling away. At the end of our stay in Phuket we were SO SO SAD TO LEAVE. We had one last night out which ... read more

After the Full Moon Party we just did as we usually do, swim , eat, sleep and read. We organized a boat trip around Ko Pha Ngan with a boat trip called Reggae. We set off in the morning an hour late of course, and got on a huge long tail boat with thirty others. The little Asian/Jamaican/Bob Marley wannabe tour guide rolled spliffs for everyone at the beginning of the boat trip. They just kept getting passed around from the little guide rolling them at the front of the boat, talented. By the time we got to the first beach we were all smashed (but not Erin!! Not after last time... some of you will remember those stories…) and there were still whole joints that no one wanted to pocket or save because everyone was ... read more

So this is it… The party we have been waiting a whole year for. Did it live up to expectations? Yes and no. We had a great time, didn’t over do it too much, and lived to tell the story! We headed out at about 10pm to the party, we had been shopping all day, came home to relax, get ready, and walk to the main street to catch a cab. The cool thing about cabs here is that they drive around the main road of the island, and you can hail them down from wherever, more like a bus service really, we have never waited for more than 5 minutes. So we went up to the road, took a taxi in and jumped out a Haad Rin beach, with about 10,000 other tourist! We got ... read more

The day we were headed for Koh Pha Ngan we were picked up at our hotel in Phuket late, as usual (Asians are always so keen to get your money but there service is horrible) and sat on the mini bus for a five hour trip which was only meant to take three and a half hours. The reason it took so long is because the bus kept meeting other buses and swapping passengers who were going to different destinations. When we finally arrived at the jetty the people who kept hopping off our bus to change with other buses were there anyway so it was a big f#@$ waste of time. So we waited another hour for the boat to come to take us to Koh Pha Ngan. We were told that we would arrive ... read more

From Kota Kinabalu, we flew out the following morning to Kuala Lumpur and stayed overnight in a nice hotel with a pool on the roof, before flying the next day to Phuket. We have forgotten to mention so far that every flight we have taken so far we thought that we would die! The turbulence in SE Asia is a lot worse than that in Australia (we checked this with a pilot at our hotel in KL). Once flying Vietnamese Airlines nearing the landing strip, the engines would run down, then start up, then run down, then start up… the plane was going down, up, down, up, getting that feeling of falling in your gut, it was terrifying. Neither of us admitted it to the other at the time, but we both thought that we were ... read more

After Jenny accomplished the amazing feat of Mt Kinabalu, we decided to have a relaxing day on the beach. We headed out to the ferry terminal to wait. They don’t have schedules for the ferries, they wait for enough people to fill a boat and then send it out. Such an unordered system, and stuffed up the count, sent other people on the ferry we were supposed to be on, and we ended up waiting nearly 40 minutes instead of about 15! On the ferry the give you a life jacket, and the driver scoops water out of the bottom of the boat while steering with a plastic bucket. But since I am actually writing this blog, we obviously survived the trip without dieing a slow a horrible drowning death in the middle of the ocean. ... read more

Hey guys! Well I did it!! I climbed Mt Kinabalu. This massive mountain is half the size of Mt Everest “Standing 4,095 metres (13,432 ft) high, it is the highest mountain in South East Asia. With its granite massif dominating the surrounding landscape at the peak, it is often shrouded in mists and clouds. Mount Kinabalu has an awesome mystique all its own. No wonder that long ago, the Kadazan-Dusuns named it ‘Aki Nabalu’ or “home of the spirits of the dead’.” The bus picked me up from my hotel as 7am and it was a two hour drive out to the National Park, but luckily for me, my Malaysian lady driver was sexy. In my bag I had lots of warm clothes, a raincoat, torch and spare shoes which made it very heavy. I was ... read more
