AHH. Felicitaciones por tu perfecto espan'ol. Mi inglès no es tan bueno. .. a propòsito , que significa la frase:it emerged that the since-fired girl was just taking the piss with the amount of food she was siphoning away from their home!
Ciao
that's cool Hey body I'm from Barranquilla, but I live in Virginia. I love to see that you wen't there and liked my country, a lot of people have the wrong idea of Colombia. They all should do what you have done." GO TO QUILLA AND HAVE FUN " I don't know you or your girl, but you since like a nice couple.
Te extrañamos Ian Hola me parece increible que como recibiste tan asertademente nuestra cultura, es mas te fuiste hecho todo un costeño. Te queremos mucho y Gracias por compartir tu estadia con nosotros Cuidate
Hola Ian y Rochi (mi amiga!!)...I am very very happy to read all these stories from my wonderful Barranquilla. My city is LO MAXIMO and you need to go there to understand why we love our culture. Many thanks for talking well about our country.
From London I am sending you a big hug and hope to see you soon. Kisses and welcome to London when you want!

What a country! Hi Ian, it has been absolutely great reading your blog, checking out the photos of this amazing country and getting to know Rochy's family! Enjoy the time that remains there and I hope to see you both back in the UK soon. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! Un abrazazo fuerte
Ian, eres sencillamente, ! GENIAL !
aka Pierre (Canada) Great Ian, I enjoy your website. It allows me to have a nice preview of my up coming trip to clb. Hope you're well, good to see you together (with rochy). If you have the chance to ''say hi to Ed for me'' pls. be happy !!!

Y la Guajira? Me encanta tu vision de mi pais, y no sabes lo divertido que resulta leer el blog, me lo imagino todo, espero que tengas ocasion de subir a la Guajira, alli mi familia te recibira encantada.
Very nice blog Ian... Ian: glad to see u guys are spending some good time together and that ur enjoying it so much...It's good to see that perspective from a more imparcial source than the big-company-funded organizations that try to sell the image of a "perfect country". Keep me posted and good luck...Hope to see u two again sometime...
This is the way my country looks from the inside!!! Ian, I'm glad to know you're having a great time here in Colombia. The fact that you're getting to know and understand my culture better makes me really happy. Thanks for this blog, it's fun!!! Te amo.
Woooooooooooowwwww! This is the best description I have read from my country, my city, my traditions, colombian style of lyfe... Not even me that had leaved there for 24 years could have done it better.
Chears!!! Happy new year from Canada!!!
Te echo de menos Colombia... Glad you're having such a brilliant time from the sounds of things, and nice that I can read the English and Spanish parts, memories of being followed around shops sounding very familiar. Very jealous though of you being back in Colombia, I have turned European and now can't believe I put up with the weather here for 20 odd years! ¡Feliz navidad y un próspero año nuevo! Laura
response to "Pink Mona" I hope you enjoyed the blog and I appreciate your comment. I understand some of what you have written in your comment. Specifically, your impressions of the costeño people do echo my own.
However, these are not my first impressions - I worked for AIESEC in Colombia for three months (also in Barranquilla) and this is in fact the third time I have been living here. Moreover, I have had a Colombian girlfriend for the past 18 months and I know the culture and the country quite well.
Yes, there is some racism here. But there is also racism in Romania (I know - I lived there) and in the U.K. For this reason I preferred not to dwell on the racism here, but to comment upon what I perceive as the assets of Colombia culture - the energy, the colour, the pride and the passion.
Like the organisation I referred to in the blog - Yo Creo en Colombia - I prefer to talk up Colombia rather than talk it down.
Hola from Hash Hello Dr.Priestley
Nice photos and nice tailor made shirts. Colombia looks beautiful in the photos and the food and fruit you described waters my mouth.
Keep having fun!
Adios amigo, Hash Dinei
racism hi, I lived on the cost 6 months and everything you say reminds me of my first impressions there. People are friendly, loud, maybe too loud sometimes , exuberant. I remember I was shocked as well by how they use the term ``negro``, without any racist implication or connotation. However, trust me when I tell you there is a lot of racism on the coast and in all Colombia, for that matter.
Before I embark in the world of full-time work, I have come to Colombia to live for a few months with my girlfriend Rochy.
While ostensibly here to work as an English teacher and use my Spanish, I am here to be with Rochy once again. This time, on her soil!
Sun, loud music, extroverts and other assorted characters, bright colours, exotic fruits and a lack of punctuality - welcome to my world in Barranquilla!... full info
