X Country sounds fun but if you're into that, you should consider some back country snowboarding ... I'm talking the deepest powder, the freshest tracks and a great workout! Well, if you're interested on information regarding the snow conditions, check out OnTheSnow.com.
Poor mice !! Cool Trip And that's a lovely view, i would kill to get a place somewhere like that.
All i can see from my window is a big tree and lots of traffic.
home sweet home yeah the triip was awesome. kinda feels like a dream though now, or a collection of stories i've heard from other peoples' travels. weird. PhD started with many a hitch, bunny-hopping along, and I'm completely broke. Except for the 50 billion of course but I really don't want to break that, you know, memories. You must be raking in the pounds about now! Was it hard to find a job? Same goes - you always got a place to stay in nz. Don't know why you'd want to go back to aus anyway, isn't that why you always see at least one australian traveller wherever you go?... because noone ACTually likes to live there?
hey ray i actually didnt think anyone tried to rob me - scam definately, beg definately, follow you through the crowd trying multiple times within the space of about 10 minutes to sell you the same thing you angrily said no to 2 minutes before: definately! But pickpocket... no. In saying that I think china is the only place I went where the locals all wear their bags on their front where they can see them, a habit which i already had and decided not to change once I saw them - i mean normally thats how you spot a traveller (well one way anyway). but i still felt reasonably safe, even at night on unlit streets on my own coming back from the yuyuan market (did that at night several times). people stared at me, but it was either just curiosity or they decided i looked too mean to try anything (haha).
fun times yo em
long time aye! sounds like you had agreat time over in china aye? I went over in january to shanghai too...like you said, its absolutely crazy! that bullet train didnt actually feel that fast, but when you start looking at all the cars going 100km/h on the highway....
shanghai seemed like it had a small town feel albeit the population that lives there...i was constantly on guard on nanjing street when we went on a walking tour at night...beggars all around trying to coerse you to donate...we didnt give them anything so they hounded us for half an hour and stalked us from shop to shop. i noticed a group of youths who were watchful of my movements so i tried to lose them in the throngs of people, but like you said, if you bump into anyone else, theres no guarantees that your wallet will still be in our pocket. i was so paranoid that i had all my valuables in the pockets of my jersey which i had another 3 layers covering!
well, hope you a great one mate. what you up to now?
chat later

thats not quite what i meant... the point of that blog was the contrast to the sheltered world i grew up in, where actually im not even sure if ive seen a real gun before. I was only in mostar one day, so no, i did not do it justice (sounding like a broken record with that one, didnt have enough time anywhere i went!). The apartment I stayed in was probably one of the nicest in all my travels, but again, the bullet holes in the door were a novelty for me, and that is why i commented so much on all the destruction, because that was the thing that stood out the most, in fact it was quite overwhelming - i didn't know quite what to think, its not a city you can find anywhere.
The old city was beautiful, and the river, the food and drink and service was very good, also cheap, and we also found a pool table, one of only two in all my travels. So I apologise if it all sounded a little blase. You might be interested to know that i have been telling everyone back home that of all the places i went in europe bosnia was my favourite, and that i would love to go back and really get to know it, and not only because of its recent history. the people i met there were friendly and interesting, and i would have loved to have stayed longer.
have you really been in the city? Well, i live in Mostar and i never heard about mines in the city! Maybe there are mines somewhere in the mountens but why to go there anyway!? you saw only destroyed buildings? Have you saw new shopping centers, the old city? have you went to see the west side of the city? about your accomodation - we have 4 great hotels ranked with 3,4 and 5 stars and awarded from european hotel's association! there is also many private rooms and apartments! It was your decision to rent that room, that was probably the cheapest one! we also have great terases, cafe bars, restaurants, night life! I'm really sory if you missed all that when you were here! But - you have a reason to come back! Welcome!
bit of a nomad myself a. answer changes from night to night, but usually people from the hostel
b. yeah the beer is still unbeleivably cheap, but ive had cheaper in my trip, so i obviously didnt find the cheapest beer in europe.
Yup, several, not sure if they'll make it onto my cd's though... hows london? as bad as everyone says??? good luck finding a job, must have been nice to unpack all your stuff, wash it, and give it a real home! i start back in about 2 weeks as well eek.
china is my new favourite destination, its awesome ( blog to come!)!!! No more evil beer, but i didnt find that cheapest beer in europe in praha, obviously didnt venture outside the centre far enough. although i dont know that bosnia beer can really be called cheaper as im not entirely sure it counts as beer (for aforementioned reason).
I have also replaced you two annoying teasing aussies with two annoying teasing germans, who even laugh at my comebacks, so im in a bit of a fix. ah that nz accent, so good to travel on! everyone loves to meet me because im from there, but when i try to say something i always have to write it down, and then they understand.
Clock Watcher - Bet you still took a photo of the clock :> Hey Em,
Sounds like your continuing to have a blast. Well my Holiday has come to a close and I have moved into a place in London. I start looking for work next week. Enjoy the rest of your trip, and I hope you don't miss the "Annoying Teasing Aussies" too much.
PS. Have you had any more evil beer anywhere as we need a heads up.
Rohan
Head out! Hey Em. a) In the Budapest blog, Who is we? b) in Prague (your prob not there still but oh well) all you have to do is venture a few blocks from the big tourist areas and youll find cheap beer. I got a litre bottle of Pilsner Urquell for a pound.. its great.. Have a good rest of trip
Welcome to the land of harrasment! I love the idea of going to Istanbul and Turkey in general. I know it must be easier for a guy as they wouldnt give as many offers of dinner and drinks. A great experience youve had and I figure you must be happy to get back to harrasment free NZ or Switzerland.
Goodtimes! hahaha what craziness hey?
thanks for the shout out!
Still in Istanbul heading to Cappadocia tomorrow night and back here on Tuesday!
I hope Romania's goin good!
