Egypt Trip Since we have been in Greece for four days, we have seen lots of statues with missing pieces, too. When I was in Egypt, I had not heard the story of why they think the Sphinx's nose was missing. Interesting. In Greece it is often because the statue bodies were made independently of the heads which were added later.
I guess you didn't go for another camel ride at the pyramids. I remember that the drivers wouldn't let us off until we would give them more money.
How much longer will you be in Israel? It seems you should be heading home soon. I hope to be able to see you when you visit your grandparents.
By the way, there were some very good pictures in this blog.
Questions regarding David Ben-grunion and comments about home Emily,
Hi! I was just wondering if you knew when David Ben-grunion retired and when he died. You and your family are learning so much!
I wanted to let you all know that your rhododendron bush has been in beautiful bloom outside your back door here at home, but I'm sure it misses all of you (as I do). I'm really looking forward to your return.
Love to all,
sammie

Missed You... It has been awhile since I read a new posting on your blog. Not much to say about this one except the biography of Ben Gurion is very interesting.
But I wanted to tell you that I read your story about the girl who was a spy during the Revolutionary War. Quite good. I could feel the suspense. What is good is that you could actually make a chapter book out of many similar adventures. Think about it.
Masada evokes many feelings. I recall seeing a television film based on the seige at Masada and the lengths its people went to in order NOT to become Roman slaves. It made me think of other, more modern religious groups who have followed the same path...and how we perceive of their struggles and choices. Freedom means everything!
What a place! So awesome to be walking on such revered earth! I'm wondering about the sounds you encountered there, and the smells? What does the air feel like?
Chocolate Milk and Algea! I am interested in the algea farm. Why do they grow algea? What is it used for? I've always wondered what life on a kibbutz would be like.
Out of Order! I started in the middle and am reading backward and forward. Not an uninteresting way to go about things. Your travels sound fascinating. And what a history lesson!
Hooked on Emulee's Blog! What a terrific blog, very interesting to read. I especially appreciated the brief history of the region before venturing into the blog-message itself. And, of course, the photos made everything come to life. I sure do look forward to the next edition! My best to you and your family.
What A HOOT!!! gREAT CONCEPT..."LAUGHING CAMEL'. ! How funny. Really laughed right along with the camel. I'll not ask for details pertaining to camel hygene. That would really be too much information.
SEE YOU SOON !!!!
Keeping me interested... Akko looks beautiful. I always love any place with a view of the Mediterranean. I am guessing the bay is connected.
I like the idea of covering up food during Passover. I will have to share that picture with a Jewish friend. Keep away the temptation.
How did you celebrate Passover there? Did you have a huge group Sedar or was it just your family?
I told your sister that the pictures of the Bahai Center have motivated me to find out more about their beliefs.
I also did not know that the Crusaders would have made tunnels. I am learning so much from your blogs.
again Again, you have brought your wonderful adventures directly to ME. I have been telling all your friends about your experiences in Israel. I think we should try and Skype one day next week. Emma and Maggie are ready to see "Emily in Israel"...
Haifa I grew up in Haifa and its a beautiful city; However, a lttle bit boring and heavy. You mentioned Akko and Haifa for the visit of north of Israel. I would recommend Rosh Pina which is a realy beautiful and unique town with intresting history.

It's been years since i visited Israel. I don't remember the terraced gardens in Bahai, so that must be new. Thanks for sharing these photos! I like the crusader tunnel photos.
lynnsteinboulder@gmail.com Hi Emily,
Great blog! Sounds like you had a great time. Really well written and great pictures too. And now we know some things to do in Haifa! To see what we did last weekend, go to http://steinfamilyboulder.blogspot.com.

WOW!!! Hi Hon,
Great pictures and wonderful commentaries. You and Abby will be accomplished tour guides by the time Aunt Marjie and I get there. Can't wait to see many of the amazing sights you've had on your blog. The views of the sea at Jaffa are really lovely. The Sheppards left about 2 hrs ago. They had a great time...hot sunny weather and everyone stayed well. Zoe misses you both soooo much. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU!!1
Wow! Emily (and Abby), What a week you've had! Hiking and sliding, hearing someone play the oud while people sang along, seeing a play performed by blind and deaf actors, having a "Circle of Life" moment (what were you holding?) and finally being able to enjoy chocolate milk! All this in a distant land. Life is good.
We miss you 'round here,
xo

time So much of what you have shown us is so ancient! Does this affect everyday life for most people? Maybe some cultures more than others?
You've been there quite a while now, do you feel "at home" yet? Do you think living in another culture--multiple cultures -- has changed you forever? How do you describe what South Berwick, Maine is like to people you meet?
I Love your blog!--
This is all very interesting. But you tell us a little more about where you are living and what your typical day is like? When do you get up? What do you do? What do you eat?
The Church of the Annunciation looks wonderful. And its importance to the history of that land is not to be underestimated.
As for the trinkets in the other church... I wonder if they are like those in Greek churches where you put silver replicas of what you are praying for or about.
