Hello from Amsterdam! So I'm sitting in a coffee shop right now writing this which is very strange. Anyway we've been here for 2 days now but yesterday we pretty much walked around and recovered from our CRAZY night out in Prague and an overnight train. So Prague does have a nightlife I have never quite seen before. We became friends with a Kiwi by the name of Andrew and after the three of us spent a depressing but informative and powerful day at a concentration camp about 1 hour outside the city we decided a good night of dancing was in order. So Andrew, Jenn and I met up with about 7 other guys from the hostel and went to the local club which was outside of the old town, meaning very few tourists and ... read more

Helllooo from Prague.... We've been in Prague for 2 days now but due to an emergency laundry run (which took a good 4 hours) and lack of sleep we really have only done one day of exploring the city. So this blog is mainly in regards to our last 2 days in Interlaken and Vienna. So our plans changed a bit and Jenn and I decided to stay in Interlaken for an extra 2 days and then take a night train to Vienna. We had so much fun w/our roommates (room 305 baby) that we couldn't imagine leaving so soon. So instead of going to Lucerne Jenn, Alex (our new travel buddy), and I rented out a rowboat and took it out onto the lake. First let me say that none of us really knew what ... read more

Hey everyone! Its great hearing from everyone thanks for the messages and emails. This post wont have pictures bc we cant get to a computer that will let us plug in the cord but as soon as we do i will put up some pictures from Switzerland bc this place is amazing!! I have to write really quickly about our time in Venice. We had a great and relaxing time. We roomed with 2 other girls, one from Newcastle England and one from New Jersey. We basically hung out with them the entire time. The gondola rides were way too expensive for us but we were fine with just roaming around the city getting lost in all the side streets. The way the city is laid out with all of the canals and bridges is just ... read more

Ciao! So Jenn and I are starting our 3rd day here in Rome and we absolutely love it. The city is pretty big but we have enjoyed walking around and just randomly running into cute churches and ruins. We have done so much here it feels like and yet there is so much more we could do if we had more time. Everyone who said 3 days wasnt enough was exactly right but we feel like we have done a lot in the time we had. We started off at the Colleseum which was crazy. It was bigger then i ever could have imagined. We then headed over to the Forum and i was really amazed by how much is still intact. We also made it to the Vatican and saw John Paul II's tomb which ... read more

Hello from Florence!! I never thought I would visit Italy but I'm finally here! Before I tell you about Florence I have to mention our incredible trip outside of Nice. Jenn and I took the train to Eze Village which is in between Monaco and Nice and hiked up to the village. The view was amazing. We went into the gardens which had a large cacti collection and overlooked most of the Cote d'azur. We could see the Cannes and St Tropez coastline from where we were standing. The pictures posted do not do the view justice. We explored the nightlife in Nice but we ended up spending most of our night drinking champagne on the beach with some British students who randomly sat down and started talking to us. They were a lot of fun ... read more

Hellloooo from Nice, France! So Jenn and I had some difficulties getting here, apparently Nice is popular and all of the trains were full! So we dipped into our emergency funds and payed a little extra for an upgrade to 1st class. I must admit after riding in first class I don't think either one of us are looking forward to returning to 2nd class....where we ultimately belong. In first class nobody talks!! We were whispering the entire time as to not disturb the peace. Anyway we made it and even though Patrick the owner of Hostel Chez Patrick is a little strange the place is very clean and everything worked out well in the end. We both are going to really miss Paris. Our roommates were hilarious (they wrote 4 pages of info for us ... read more

hello from paris! So our hostel rocks except the sketchy mean man who yells at EVERYONE! law and order is currently on in french (best show ever). We crammed a lot in yesterday but i only have 10 minutes left to type so i'll save the details for later. We have decided to keep a few interesting lists. 1) the number of times i (emily) fall/trip/stumble currently 6 2) the number of sketchy people we meet/run into currently 4 (including the men who followed us down the road screaming discoteque!!!) 3) and a list of interesting quotes Anyway we watched some pretty interesting street performers today, uncluding a man from scotland who had some difficulties with his music for his act, and another man who forced everyone walking by to stop and watch by yelling "STOP!!". ... read more

Alright one more day before Jenn and I fly to Paris. I'm watching Lance Armstrong win his 7th tour de france and I can't believe Jenn and I will be there in 48 hours. 7 man..... crazyness. I'm not working tonight but I will be playing some outback kickball which will be a fun way to say goodbye to everyone. I also haven't finished sewing on those damn patches I bought during my last trip. I'm not very good at this sewing thing...... Oh well the backpack looks pretty sweet with the patches on. I guess its worth the pain (and yes constantly jabbing your thumb with a needle is painful). My next post will be from France! I'll miss everyone! Feel free to leave messages on this thing and let me know what you're upto! ... read more

I’m about to embark on my 5th trip to Europe. I returned from England this past Dec. after studying abroad at the University of Leicester (where I had an amazing time). Before my time in England I backpacked for 3 weeks (not nearly long enough) throughout the UK, Ireland and Spain. Despite my love for Ireland and the UK (where I will hopefully be living after I graduate college this fall) I decided this time I would go elsewhere. The trip is gonna go a little somethin like this: Paris - Nice - Florence - Rome - Venice - Bern - Interlaken - Lucerne - Vienna - Prague - Berlin - Amsterdam So this travel blog will be a great way to save my memories so when I’m old and boring I’ll be able to look ... read more

I visited Chicago for the first time over Memorial Day Weekend. My main purpose for visiting the city was to see the U.S. play England in an international soccer friendly but I also saw a lot of the sites. The skyscrapers were amazing I have never seen anything quite like it (I was too young to remember my trip to NYC). Upon my return I had to write a story about my trip for my Writing Across the Media class. The story really sums up the sights and sounds of my time in Chicago. CHICAGO - The voices that rose above the screeching of metal of the L train had a distinct accent to them. The words that carried across the tracks were “cheers” and “mate”. Closing your eyes, you would have thought you were riding ... read more
