Hello one and all - hope all is well with you We are in an internet booth next to where we are staying in Amritsar and the keyboard is pretty grim, the keys stick so please excuse typos! So we left London for Zurich. Taxi at 5.30am, handsomely tipped as I gave him 45quid instead of 35 by mistake. Bloody minicabs!!! Anyway, we were (for the first time ever!) early...and then there was a delay. No problem, bit of a wander and some breakfast then we were away. The only problem was that the delay basically matched our transfer window at Zurich so when we got there and were faced with a security-check queue 300 deep we panicked and asked to be let through as our gate was closing. Swiss respect for rules meant that was ... read more

The countdown has begun! It's Sunday 2nd December (already!?) and we are off on Friday to spend the remainder of the month in India. We finally have a (loose) itinerary, some train tickets and visas courtesy of the exceptionally inefficient High Commission on Aldwych. If you should ever find yourself wanting an Indian visa factor a four-hour wait into your day! We are pretty much ready to go, the kit that is sprawling across the flat just needs packing - I am confident my pack will be fine, it's Matt's ever expanding photography gear that'll cause a problem! So check back whenever you fancy to see if we've managed to find somewhere with electricity, internet access and are awake. Here's to a short week at the office and a great trip... Last entry only took us up to our first night in Houay Xai, the border town in Laos. We booked up to catch a bus north to Luang NamTha which we knew could take a whil longer than anticipated due to rain. The weather was not too terrible though so we went for it which meant a 20 hour nightmare journey driving through what looked like stroganoff but was in fact the clay soil in the region. The road on this route is under construction so it's pure clay with scattered bits of aggregate and random bits of machinery. We didn't have a bus as we were told we'd have, we had a big tuk-tuk. They fit 20 people, falang and Lao, and heaps of luggage onto this 4WD with a tuk-tuk carriage on the ... read more

So I arrived in Bangkok last Thursday to find that my hotel room had been given away... Not a great start but I found somewhere else which was nice, clean a friendly whichwas all I needed. Flights from London via Abu Dhabi were really grerat (Christopher, you'd have died - I watched take off and landing on my screen..little bit hair-raising at Bangkok!!!) so I was relatively calm until I woke up to realise that I was in Asia alone and hadn't a clue where was safe, who was trying to pull a fast one etc, the language barrier thing is a killer. I spent my free morning wandering around the city, saw a few temples and an awful lot of shops - I must hab\ve been asked a thousand times if I wanted a tuk-tuk ... read more
