| 23rd October 2006 David | Just at work reading the blogs - From: Priceless Porto Eli, Glad to hear all is still well and you continue your worldly pursuit of cultural knowledge. On a side note: While driving to South Caroline this last weekend, I passed by a Large Truck which had the following written across the side of the hood "Who is John Galt?" i thought you would enjoy the thought of truckers proudly displaying this. Anyway, keep posting the blogs - I'm sure everyone misses you terribly, and the blogs certainly are a way to get the necessary prescribed dosage of Eli. Take care, and shave next time you dress as a lady, it's more convincing. Your former roomy, and perhaps future roomy, David |

I like the picture of you holding the NZ sticker...it came out clear in the front and blurry in the back, its like extra 3D or something. whatever..lol its a cool picture nonetheless. One of my school mates is moving to Australia...wtf! I'm thinking about accompaning her. :( lol waaaaaaaaaa |

| 1st May 2006 Ang | c'est tres bizarre! - From: Decompression After the Festival I just read your blog and had an uber strange feeling not unlike when you've seen 'empire strikes back' and then go on to watch 'star wars' afterwards... do i make sense? you were only here last week and reading about last month is super surreal - like i wanna scream out to the page saying "you'll never guess what you're doing next week!" Of course that was quickly overtaken by my complete and utter impatience to read about your portugal/morocco adventures... not to mention Boreaux of course. It's possible that in this state you would have to dedicate one day of every travelling week just to writing in dodgy internet joints with flea ridden carpet.... My Eli.... Bordeaux misses you. Caroline and I won the pub quiz last night. Free champagne! A total of 6 people asked after you (and it was a quiet night). France is in mourning... Come back! p.s. my purple friend says hello. |

| 28th February 2006 Andy Mike | Your not alone - From: Brotherly Love, Part Two By thinking and not just acting, shows you are more american then most. You represent us well. Travel well.... |
| 24th February 2006 Salparadis | Dear Eli, - From: Brotherly Love, Part Two I really feel sorry for you and what you went thru, another bad story after this other episod with the first guy who sent you some bad emails. I should say, don't worry about it, you don't have to feel guilty for what this guy thinks of your country, or whatever. He probably had some personal problems with the US or felt offended by what's going on in this world, or maybe was crazy and you can't do anything about it. He is simply an idiot to have taken a "revenge" or shout his anger on you, just because he found you were an american citizen... You did what it was right to do, of course. I just hope you won't be too much affected by this event, cause it really doesn't worth it. Even if this world is full of hate and wars and problems, we have to make our way in it and try to do our best to have a good life without selfishness, and do some good to the people we love... I send you all my best to you and hope to see you soon in April, to laugh and have good times together. Perrine |
| 24th February 2006 pimmsgirl | what the heck - From: Brotherly Love, Part One Speaking of ignorant; I grew up in a communistic country and can't say that I agree with many things that communist believe in. But I certainly agree even less with people that generalize all people that might be a little 'off' as 'they probably are communists'. Buddy, that puts you right next to them in the same category. By the way, this whole story seems like bad TV comercials. Eli, when was the last time you got 11 comments to a blog in just about 24 hours. Everyone thinks they guy is a nutcase but we are all talking about him (and probably will for quite some time). I like your all your responses, just the way we know you and love you. Keep it coming. (Disclaimer; I apologize for possible spelling errors and crushed toes I might have stepped on) |
| 23rd February 2006 kathy | eli's chinese friend = nationalist? - From: Brotherly Love, Part One David:that is quite a generalization, don't you think? Perhaps using the country instead of the people would of made it better or just perhaps another example would of been extremely fine. you know all Chinese people are not from China, some were from Hong Kong, the island that was ran by the British for a while. Back then and now Hong Kong was not a "commie". Using the term "Chinese" not too excited as well as not to proud that China is communist country. FYI for the next time you are trying to define the term for "Nationalist" try using the country and not the people. Good day! Eli, I am so sorry that this John character insulted your spelling, no one is perfect, but other then that, I really think you are PERFECT! John is obviously ignorant to many extremes as well as probably having nothing better to do then to make a comment about a misspelled word. We can't always meet nice people, then they wouldn't be consider nice if we don't have any jerks to compare them with. Heehee! I love you, be strong and take care, I know you always do!! k.f.kathy = chinese = communist |
| 23rd February 2006 Briana | Baseball bats... - From: Brotherly Love, Part Two are for hitting baseballs and burglars! Unfortunately, we live in this world where some people deserve to meet the swing of a bat. But if that were the case, you and me and most people reading your blog would be swinging all day. Take your negative experiences with these people and make them postitive. Know that you don't want to associate yourself with then and that their own internal battles are the cause of their hatred. You are strong and determined, don't veer off your path of life to happiness. PS- Regarding john, I hope you didn't say anything about his mom or his fat ass! |
| 23rd February 2006 BB | Ass kicking! - From: Brotherly Love, Part One Hello love- Ignorance is bliss and people suck! So take my new NYC acquired attitude and go kick his ass. And when your done, follow through with a "how about them apples" comment. And please tell your friend Jake that I like his response and think that he should email the singing "prick" to our 'friend' john. And john if your reading this, then I hate to say that Eli's blog is enjoyed by hundreds. So beat that! Waves of love- Briana |
| 23rd February 2006 The Ephemeral Self | re: Reason. - From: Brotherly Love, Part Two Dear Eli, I may have once explained that I believe life to be the interaction between two extremes, good/bad, light/dark, hot/cold, base/divine. They are, in fact, facets of the same two extremes. One can never rely on the reason of our fellow Man, especially when drunk he can adhere to ideals which later seem to him laughable. You are the better man, for you are equiped with unclouded judgement. If you meet him I would hope you would ask questions first, baseball-bat later. Jack. |
| 23rd February 2006 Jake | - From: Brotherly Love, Part Two Eli, you're such a good person. The fact that you want to sit and have a talk with this guy just proves it all the more. The side of you that wants to fight him is nothing more than your natural instincts doing their thing. There's tons of people I'd love to go back and beat the snot out of. But the time is gone, and you just have to move on. Don't think of it as a horrible experience. It's just another step along the way to your life without boundaries. Would you let someone that absolutely hated white people get you down like this? Their hatred is just something that you can't fully understand. It's not that you're not capable, but you haven't lived their lives. And they haven't lived yours. Knowing you, if the guy had stepped up and tried to hurt you or your friends, I'm sure you would have acted. But he didn't, so don't dwell on it. When something happens, you'll know what to do. You'll know the time and the place for a fight, and you'll know when it's best to just walk away. I said it earlier, but you did good. Hitting him would have solved nothing. And it most likely would have put a hurt on both of you that you just don't need. Take solice in the fact that you're a smart man, a good man, and you know what needs to be done in most situations. The rest of them, you find out as you go along. You're one of the best men I've come across in my life, and I'm so very proud to call you my brother. And you just proved one of the many reason why. -J |
| 23rd February 2006 antonio | partay' - From: Valentines Day and a Birthday in Valencia 2 days till I go to Puerto Rico woohoo. I have a picture to email you, but ill do it when I get home. Cmon now...striped shirt? Everyone knows horizontal stripes make you look bigger =P The home construction picture reminds me of Property Ladder which I havnt seen since that night we watched it. wtf...when does that come on!! |
| 23rd February 2006 Anthony and Simona | hello! - From: San Sebastian Simona wants to know if you are crying in the picture that you only have one glass lens! She misses you and she loves you, and wants you to iron some sabanas for her. I love the picture of the door it reminds me of a hobbit home. it's awsomeness. |
| 23rd February 2006 AnthIZZLE | well.. - From: Brotherly Love, Part One I can completely agree with the sucking @ spelling...afterall..how do you think I beat your ass in Boggle all the time 8) mmmhmmm. ;) Tiffany found this story funny so I figured i'd check my mail and see what it was about....I like how he said NOT to contact him ever again when he started the whole thing. lol. |
| 22nd February 2006 Gustavo | Cowardice - From: Brotherly Love, Part One As soon as you asked him to explain himself, crazy guy showed up and then ran away...nuff said...Keep living, keep writing!!! Ba Zing! |
| 22nd February 2006 CPL | Eli... - From: Brotherly Love, Part One Fuck John. Love you. Me |
| 22nd February 2006 mariposa | My lovely Eli - From: Brotherly Love, Part One My love, don't you let this person bring you down. We, all your friends, know what a kind and sweet soul you are. There are several reasons why one should act like this, but this is not your problem. Just ignore him, as if he doesn't even exist. People like that worth only your pity and nothing more. So let him sink in his problems and insecurities and you continue to be the happy person you are ;-) By the way, i love you!!! You are the best. |
| 21st February 2006 Jake | - From: Brotherly Love, Part One Actually, I'd like his information. I can write him something along the lines of 'Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick! Prick!' and see what his response to that is. And maybe, for effect, I can misspell it a few times, see if he catches it. Though, I could probably also record it in a singing voice and email that to him as well. Oh, the ideas you give me. :) |
| 21st February 2006 David | Eli's Old Roomie - From: Brotherly Love, Part One Hey Eli, This guy doesn't like you because he is a "commie" - which, for those who don't know, is a derogatory term for communist. The whole "Nationalist" attitude is a Chinese way of life. This guy doesn't like you, because you dare to be different. you defy the Norm and do not conform to society. To normal people, that believe in individualism, you rock! May Henry David Thoreau (and Ralph Waldo Emerson) guide you through your life without boundaries. Your Friend, David |

Call on me if you need me. like i said " I got this!". Miss ya babe and I look forward to your next adventure. |

| 13th February 2006 Barnaby Myhrum | Hey man - From: The Orange Capital HAHAHAHA. What is with foreigners and just saying the dumbest things to us? | 3rd February 2006 Benny | parting is such difficult sorrow - From: The Orange Capital I think I'll be another one of those people who left, missed the people and came back to Valencia!! Your logs are getting me so nostalgic about my favourite city in the world (strangely, Italy is my favourite country but nowhere in particular inside). Are you starting to see why I spoke so highly of it?? If you don't find a job soon the one advantage is that you will be able to enjoy las fallas 24-7! Only two weeks left!!!! I got your mail thanks. Brazil is just awesome and Italy might have to get bunked down to number two!! Shortly after your fallas I'll be celebrating the Carnival! We'll compare notes man! Enjoy the OC! :-P Benny |

| 11th January 2006 Nick Casias | Stay Strong Eli - From: Live Every Day Your words were comforting. One of the re occuring themes of life on the road is trying to make peace with a world you don't quite understand. Jenna's situation reinforces such feelings. Sometimes you must just give up. Know some things are out of you and common logic's hands. Celebrate the times she lived worth celebratin. I have an honest feeling those 23 years were worth some people's 80. |
| 10th January 2006 anthony | well put - From: Live Every Day Your words were put together perfectly. I have been lucky enough to have not had any deaths of a close friend. I can only imagine what it's like. And I hope never to witness it...I've always said i'd rather 'go' before others. I guess it's a form of selfishness. But Jenny and her friend are both in mine and andrews prayers :) Next time I look to the moon and stars, i'll think of Jenna. |
| 10th January 2006 Jake | - From: Live Every Day I love you kiddo. I'm sure there's something else I should put in here or some words of comfort, but it all comes down to the first sentence. -J |
| 10th January 2006 Jenny | Thanks - From: Live Every Day Babe, thanks so much. Your words meant a lot to me. I am doing okay, actually I'm really relying on my faith for this one. I'll have to explain more in person, but you are right when you say that her death taught me (and you) so much. Not only that life is a gift, but that everything we do is forgotten... our jobs, our "stuff", even our bodies, in time...after we die. But the one thing people remember and are changed by...is the way that we show love. That is the way people are impacted by you and changed, and everything else just fades away. I love you sweetie and please don't worry too much about me. I am doing good. I promise! I can't wait to talk to you in person sometime soon. Love-Jen |

| 17th December 2005 AJ | late mornings a habit? - From: From Valencia to Alicante Not you?!? I remember a time when 11 in the morning would be an early one for you!! | 13th December 2005 Playschool | I think I missed a couple of days... - From: Sweet Valencia but hopefully after about a good hour reading on screen (always a real pleasure) I could catch up.... and WOW... people you've met are raising hospitality high, I need to train if some kind of competition will be set up. Well... about ppl, I was very pleased to read all of this and know you met Marii in Toulouse; she was my rescuer host in Tallinn last summer and gave me many good times. I'm glad she's apparently doing well in Toulouse. and also Zuki, a sunshine ray whatever time is... So you're now in a really nice area (and there are plenty of nice spots for scuba diving in this region... my dad founded a scuba club in Javea ages ago...probably when yours was visiting Picasso's museum). Btw, thank you so much for the guest book...it's filling up quite quickly... already more than 10 pages are not totally white anymore ;) and what to say more that wouldn't be pointless... oh yes... if you settle down for a while in this region, have a bit of free space around you, 'cause you'll surely have a lot of visits and'll become a professional host there. Enjoy! Playschool Btw thx for getting in touch through HC |

| 8th December 2005 Benny | Amunt Valencia!! - From: Finishing Up in Barcelona, Starting Anew in Valencia Valencia!!!!!! My lovely home away from home. I miss it so much!! Go to a street called Polo y Peyloron perpendicular to Blasco Ibanez for free-entrance discos where all the exchange students go out. Then when in the centro, find a bar called "Radio City" (yes, written in English) where on Tuesday nights for a 5E entrance fee you can see some of the most wonderful Flamenco performances performed by real travelling gypsies. To find an apartment (if you are staying a while), the place to look is on the lamposts close to la universidad politécnica. Get up early on Sunday morning and go beside the football stadium for a market with incredibly cheap deals. Once again if you are staying, then buy a bike here. They are all stolen, but nobody cares. Don't pay more than 25 Euro. For a cheap boat trip to Ibiza go to El Corte Inglés. For around 70E you get a full weekend package, although this time of the year it won't be so cool. Mercadona is the best supermarket in the city (and is everywhere). Don't call it Catalan, call it "Valenciano" when you hear the locals speak non-Spanish. For a day at the beach, pay a Euro for the train to the next town outside of the city (the Valencia beach isn't so clean). You might be able to get into the Warhol and Woody's discos if you tell the bouncers that you know me, but they probably have changed staff since I left. Don't worry about getting taxis home if you're out late, they are really cheap in Valencia. Um... what else... if I think of something else I'll tell you!! Enjoy the city - ah yes, if you happen to meet any interns from the IAESTE organisation (it's big in Valencia) tell them you know me and they'll invite you out to their parties. I'm not ever Benny, but "Bennyfoto" by the way. OK enjoy the city, ask me if you need any advice and have fun with Monica!! Tell her I said "Amunt Valencia"!! Hasta luego, Benny |
| 6th December 2005 anonymous | Harry Potter - From: Party in Barcelona Eli, I hope you went to see Harry Potter. I saw it last night and it is awesome! No, seriously it is FABULOSA!!!!! ok, do tell if you Love it! Keep up the fun times! Besos y cuidate! Tru |
| 5th December 2005 Aussie Anth | Your a champ now - From: Party in Barcelona Another party huh? I bet you'll be back to the bottle in a week ;) lol jk. I actually drank quite a bit this weekend...at kathy's house with everyone, tons of fun...chinese fondue (amazing) with a side of catch phrase and carnium. Both times, my team (Bill, Monica and Cabe) won. woot. Then last night it was Jackie's birthday so we went and hung out there on hope street and i drank like 7 huge cups of beer *burp* Luisa was drinking too *shook finger* Jackie is now 22 so call her up and tell her happy bday. and say hi to the rest of them, heidi and all..im sure you remember them. I'm jealous of the warm weather. There is snow everywhere here. I had ice on my car this morning. And No snow brush to scrape it. I think spain would be cool to go to. You said the city is big and warm...big like..your afro? :) |
| 5th December 2005 BB | Soda or Pop? - From: Party in Barcelona So what is the European choice in soft drinks, Coca Cola or Pepsi? Or are they real healthy and only offer beer! Briana |
| 5th December 2005 BB | party on! - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona Hey my friend Amanda highly recommends you visiting Sevilla. She spent one semester there last year and LOVED it! Definately a beer and late night party town, so I hear. Also, according to E! t.v channel, Ibiza is the sickest party place one can travel too. Make sure that if you go, you go when it's not off-season! Keep me posted on the fiestas! Eli, the party animal! Anthony is right, you have partied more in Europe then the 2 years since you turned 21 here in the US. Just remember to stay away from the Midori Sours! Love- Briana |
| 4th December 2005 Nicole the Best!! | Night Owl - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona Hey my love.. seems like you are having a ball in spain.. I wish i was there.. its the one country that i want to visit.... I miss you much and love you!!! kisses |
| 4th December 2005 becca | don't forget Barcelona! - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona sounds like you were just passing through barcelona, but don't forget to go back, because there's more to see! when jo and i were there, we couldn't get into our hostel until noon, and had locked our passports at the locker there and couldn't get them without paying 2 euro...i don't remember the whole story, but there was some complicated reason that our only option was to start drinking sangrias at a sidewalk cafe to pass the time at an hour that was (obviously) before noon. By the time we waddled back to our hostel, and then to the gaudi museum, we were...well...waddling. love you! |
| 4th December 2005 Ang | the princess - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona Great to hear you all met up in the end. How long did it take for Nick to find out about Becks adoration for singing along with 'Prince'? Rock on. |
| 4th December 2005 anonymous | Life in Espana - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona How's the spanish? :O) My friends studied abroad in Spain and said that everything is closed at siesta time, so get all your shopping and eating done before that! (I'm sure you already know). Keep on partying! |
| 3rd December 2005 Jason | You Drunk - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona Yes I have to agree with Anthony on this one. Every story you tell is like... Went to this place beer was good. Found a beer on the street. Found a person on the street with a beer. Went to this cafe beer was cheap. Now you are associating cities with drinks. Your a damn drunk. I love it. Who said there was anything wrong with sleeping till noon with a hangover. I don't work until 3. Hi from Boston. Good times. Love ya Eli. |
| 3rd December 2005 Aussie Anth | Spanish life - From: From Toulouse to Barcelona I figured this is what would happen once in Spain. I know people who have gone and they all say the nightlife is above average, if not great. But cool for you for going to your first euro club. lol its funny this trip so far, you have consumed more alcohol than you have since you turned 21, or so it seems =P Well have fun partying and drinking and speaking spanish ( which i know you have been waiting for ), as all of us WORK! boo.. :( Don't get too used to that lifestyle! Glenny, John, Simona, Naomi and uhh...someone else i forgot say hi. in the past 2 days about 20 people no lie asked me about you. We all miss you. |
| 3rd December 2005 Tru | You're too skinny - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Do you eat? You're afro is FAB! As I've said countless times before, I'm so jealous of you! It is great that you are making good friends while you're out there. I love the fake fountain picture! Love you Eli! |
| 2nd December 2005 AJ | so about your hair... - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Eli, I hear more about your hair these days around here then anything else I think! Its like having you back telling me how much it needs to get cut every day, although I will say you seem to be doing a fabulous job keeping it in control, but I would pay 5 dollars to see a picture of it when you wake up in the morning!! And by the way...as far as the stench of the last hostil, you could have at least told me that was what you were preparing for over the summer by not doing your laundry for weeks at a time!! *mwah* |
| 1st December 2005 BB | Fro-in - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Keep the fro growin! |
| 1st December 2005 Zio | Eli - From: From Lyon to Montpellier LOL that stench ehhh yuck...anywho oh before I forget 90 degrees Fahrenhite is like 36-38 degrees celcius. I thought alot about your travels while I was at the air port. So much so that if Andrea had not called me and my mother as well I think i would shuffled my way over to the next counter where there was a ticket mess up of about 25 people and gotten on that plain to Munich. I had a hell of a time getting back, poor AJ had to pick me up at 20 past one in the morning! Oh well, good to hear from you and the people in your journal before this one(the newest one) sound amazing, I love linguist or how ever you spell that. So now that I filled you in I'm gonna go shave. WoW I always knew I rammbled, but gosh this takes the cake....mmmm cake.... |
| 1st December 2005 Benny | que viva la fiesta! - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Hope you two arrived safely with good accomodation and fiestas!!! How was the Harry Potter movie? I'll make sure to check back to this page to see how you're travels are going. Stay safe in Spain, Hasta luego, Benny |
| 1st December 2005 Aussie Anth | hello - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse no abstinence in spain? what exactly does that mean??? Tell nick he needs to buy shorter jeans...in the one picture it looks like he has on michael jordan's jeans. hehe. Its cool but yet very odd to have met someone for 3 days and then think you will, at some point, live with them. Wierd how minor temporary friendships are developed. much like at concerts, no matter who you go to the concert with the people to the left, right, infront or behind you always end up best friends by the end of the night and it sucks to leave them knowing you wont see them again, but it was cool that 2 hours ( or 3 days in your case) you were there. |
| 1st December 2005 Christophe | - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Hi Eli! Glad to have news about your trip. Enjoy! |
| 1st December 2005 Rebecca | France - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Hey Eli, Good to hear from you...love all your stories. | 1st December 2005 Perrine | so sorry - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Hi Eli, how are you in Spain? Are the tortilla and pan con tomate great? I read your blog and just realized where is Zaragoza... I am really sorry you didn't have enough time to take the train, I should have tell you to go earlier at the station... I feel quite guilty... (You should have tell people that your train was very soon so they let you take their place. I did that many times) Anyway, I hope it won't be too difficult to go back to Barcelona from Zaragoza... Have a good trip, keep on writing! Lots of love Perrine |
| 30th November 2005 Ang | Ships n the Night - From: From Montpellier to Toulouse Loving the fro Eli, now I know I wasn't the only one hiding something under my hat! I hope you get hold of Becks in Barcelona She will have you laughing your Socks off. I'm in denial that such a cool weekend had to end. | 29th November 2005 BB | Freedom Fries - From: From Lyon to Montpellier So France you are! I really hope that your travels take you south to the Italian Riveria. Just to see Monaco for a day is worth it. Look into Portafino, Bonaficio, and Nice (Elton John has a house there.) The area is amazing! And truly worth the visit, you would love it! If you make it to Nice, find the village that is mostly just little shops now that is carved into the mountain. They are like caves, but with electricity. Miss you lots! Briana |

| 29th November 2005 Crustation | Roughing it! - From: From Lyon to Montpellier Man sounds like fun to me!!! We could all live without the stinch, but becasue of it you always wanted to be outside as much as posible. I can see it now, the new look of "FCUK Wear" (thats for the French Connection by the way) werewolf like features, bubble jacket, and shorts. Hey if you finish reading Harry Potter and need another book I think you will enjoy The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. There is seven books but you can find all of the stories compiled together in one. The movie comes out Dec. 9th. Peace Out Globe trotter. |
| 29th November 2005 Aussie Anth | Smelly rooms - From: From Lyon to Montpellier France is sounding more and more appealing to me the more I read about it. ESPECIALLY the stench of those hostEls! MM!MM! I'm glad you had your fill of IKEA over there, Aj, andrew and I are planning a trip there! well..the one in Mass. Not the one in France heh. What movie were you going to see? I bought War of the Worlds...just as good the 2nd time ;) The beautifuuly lit trees look awsome..and are much better than the ones in Providence, here it looks like they just throw the light strands up there and are happy they stuck. AND! I still havnt seen one of those fountains that go off all in a pattern. I always miss out on the fun! I cant remember what they are called. hehe Travel safe! P.S. I'm still waiting for you to give my passport back ;) |

| 29th November 2005 The German | Back to "real" backpacking... - From: From Lyon to Montpellier Eli, it was so good to hear from you and to hear that you had nice people around you for Thanksgiving. Seems like the couchsurfing thing has turned out pretty well so far, which is great. I guess this experience was more like you had imagined it when we talked about your travels back in Germany: hostels, not much contact with people, etc. It seems like you still made the best of it and also seems like you cannot WAIT to meet more new people. Good luch with your next stop, hope you'll make it to Spain in time for Christmas. Its getting a bit chilly here in San Francisco now, but I may move into my new apartment this weekend- and then I will have to go to Ikea!!! Maybe you can be my consultant, now that you know their inventory by heart?! ;o)) All the VERY best for you, stay safe and keep having good time. You are definitely missed back in the US! Katrin |
| 28th November 2005 BB | Garden State.. - From: Thanksgiving in Lyon the once knick name for NJ. Anyways, the song by Fro Fro on the soundtrack is so good and if you have access to another computer to download, I encourage you to try some of their other hits. I just sing along and listen to the good music, hell if I know any of the titles. Briana |
| 25th November 2005 Crustation | I feel your last comment - From: Thanksgiving in Lyon Your last comment is exactly how I feel every holiday season... Becasue even though I might not get to go home, I am fortunate to meet nice people where ever I might be and interact in such a way the you can feel the same warmth you would if you were with your own family. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your thabnksgiving. though unfortunate, you can replace the music... You will just have to meet more people to occupy your time. |
| 25th November 2005 Dad | Everyone here toasted you and your travel - From: Thanksgiving in Lyon It was great to get your call yesterday morning. We spent time later with the rest of the family and the big meal. We all toasted to you and your trip. Everyone missed having you here. It's good to hear about your having good people to spend the time with. Like you said, good friends can also be like family while you have your time together. People get that from you too. I'm sure it's what makes the trip even better. |

So if you can hit the Blockbuster let me know that you think? Right now I am craving some Nutella with pretzels...yum! I think I am going to have to start keeping notes on all the places you visit and people you meet. The list is growing and growing and I am starting to loose track. But that is a good thing b/c I am not sure who else would capture my attention with such an enthuastic travel blog than you. Happy Thanksgiving and I look forward to hearing your next blog. Love- Briana |
| 23rd November 2005 MIAMI | Hitchhiking - From: From Lausanne to Geneva So lets keep the hitchhiking with crazy people down to a minimum. The new HP movie is great you will like it a lot. I haven't read all your comments, just the blogs, but has anyone told you how to convert kilometers to miles yet? 5k is 3.2 miles, and 10k is 6.4, so you have less miles than kilometers...at least thats what andrew tells me!! Remember the rugby team on the ferry to newport? Maybe you'll meet them, if you do, show them my picture!! Then you have to admit it. I AM ADDICTED to your blogs, so be sure to keep up the great work or you will be responsible for the bad things that might happen. Seems like there is a bunch of people just like me. Everywhere we go we talk about Eli's latest adventure. Last night we were sending Katrin off to San Francisco (someone will have to keep an eye on Vitaly!) with a big bash at RiRa and it seemed like you were there yourself the way people talked about you. What a life!!! C YA |

| 11th November 2005 becca | keep 'em coming! - From: On My Own in Switzerland - Now in Technicolor yeah, i toldja zurich's expensive...it seems cheap, right when you first get there, because you get so MANY francs to the euro...but then it's like 40 francs for a piece of pizza. nightlife in madrid is INSANE. i was only there on a friday and saturday night, and it was june, so i don't know what it's normally like...all i know is that when jo and i, still very jetlagged, headed out of our hostel for a late bite at midnight, people were streaming out of their apartments, hostels, etc towards the center of town. in droves. there were more people on the streets at 2 am that 2 pm (or any point during the day, really). appetite whetter yet? you'll have fun there. on a more personal note, i'm writing a song with a line directly inspired by a conversation we had in 9th grade. i love you and miss you, ~becca |
| 11th November 2005 anth | normally you and I are lucky getting on trams n such for free... - From: On My Own in Switzerland - Now in Technicolor I wish my week went like that...nope..just prepping for finals. boo... Good to hear you have poeple to stay with and that they cook stir fry :) Cook some chicken enchiladas...sheesh... I bet you are very excited for Madrid/Spain as a whole. | 3rd November 2005 Rebecca | Love the castles...can I have one? - From: Out and About Around Bodnegg Hey Eli, It is funny how much we've grown and matured since meeting each other in Guatemala. You are so insightful and knowledgeable! I love it!It seems that you have been able to detatch yourself and see the whole picture from others perspectives as well as your own. I believ that as our consciousness rises, our perspective becomes more and more impersonal. You are increasingly able to view our lives and the rest of the world with detachment. This does not mean we are cold and uncaring. Rather, we are self-contained. We have well-defined boundaries and we are able to think and act objectively, clearly and responsibly. When we have learned detachment, we do not get hooked into the thoughts and feelings of others. We are not easily upset or manipulated. We may feel compassion for others but this does not cloud our ability to choose how we think, feel and behave. We also do not need others to behave in any particular way. Until we take how we see ourselves (and how we see others) into account, we will be unable to understand how others see and feel about themselves and their world. Unaware, we will project our intentions on their behavior and call ourselves objective. You clearly understand the concept of detachment as in the case with the hitchhiker...Eli you have a great understanding of your values as well as those around you. Awesome! |
| 2nd November 2005 The Other German | You should... - From: Out and About Around Bodnegg ...really consider being a writer!!! REALLY, Monika and I walked about it yesterday, and we really think you should be travelling forever (well, once in a while on trips with breaks at home in the US for friends and family) and write about it just like the book we gave you, "By the Bottom of My Pants". I think that would be great! Absolutely LOVED your pictures again, you should also be a photographer! Mama and Papa Haegele say HI and enjoy reading your diaries immensely. All the best, cant wait to read the next one. katrin |

You got a yes to your question. So quit your complaining! :) On a side note, as I'm informed, doorbells and lightswitches look remarkably different. I checked them on the house here, and after hours of study, research and testing I'm going to need a better explanation on how you mistook the two. We here at the Society (SODM for short) are very interested in your comments, and would be interested in having you as a guest speaker at our next international meeting being held, strangely enough, at your brother's house. :) On a serious note, Mel and I absolutely love reading these. You've got an eye for beauty and a natural ability for capturing it to share with others. Love ya CC and I'll comment on your next post (it's the only way I think you'll listen to me these days). -Jake P.S. Oh yeah. We'll need your RSVP for the guest speakers position no later than Dec 31, 2007. :) |

| 26th October 2005 Dad | Lucky luck has always been good for you. - From: Mainz and Rüdesheim am Rhein Sounds like the couchsurfing is about to become a value for you. It's good to see you're already enjoying some interesting experiences and you've only been in Europe 3 days. A lot ahead for you. You're probably checking out Zurich information on the Internet also. A major city, lots of financial and banking companies. Great for you to get the ride to South Germany and then to Zurich. You could then travel west across it and get into France...or not (the freedom to roam is a good feeling). I hope it's not an intrusion if I mention some things about the countries occasionally. I always know that you'll travel wherever you choose. My comments are to just add a little information along with what you're also hearing from others or reading on the Internet. Going west across Switzerland can move you to Lucerne, which is nice and eventually to Lausanne, which I remember as being a beautiful town on a lake. Bern is a big city (capital). The western route from Zurich keeps you north of the Swiss Alps. They are probably getting cold now. They'll still be there for you to cross in warmer weather. I got a ride from mid-Switzerland over the Swiss alps into Italy when I crossed them. Beautiful to see. Only took about 4 hours to drive through them. But if you were wanting to get into Northern Europe before it got real cold, you still have time for it. Paris has got a lot of major greatness to see that would easily take a week or so to enjoy. The French countryside and a couple of wine regions would be along that route. Always good to read your blog. I know you'll get into time periods of days or more between updates but for now, it's enjoyable to read what's going on with you. Dad (proud father of Eli the World Traveler) |

| 25th October 2005 Aussie Anth | yay germans - From: Frankfurt Good to hear you are in the hands of good people and heavy drinkers. hehe Boy-oh-boy do I wish we had a chopper installed here at home. All of rhode island misses you. ps. swimming pool...sans chlorine...is it safe to drink that? |
| 25th October 2005 becca | hotmail? - From: Frankfurt i seem to remember certain webmails not working everywhere, hopefully that's not true. have fun in zurich, but beware - it's EXPENSIVE!! like, whoa. i'm so happy about your travel journal, and your travels for that matter. have fun! be safe! |
| 25th October 2005 Dad | Beer and a Burger - They finally figured out the right formula. - From: Frankfurt Glad to hear you got some rest Son. Sounds like you're already having a good time. And the ride south and then to Zurich is a great way to get the travel part of the trip started. That worked out well to make the connection with Katrin's friend for the ride and companionship for several days. Just FYI, the 8 Euros is about $9.70 in US dollars. As a formula, you can figure the US dollar amount is going to be about 20-25% more than the Euro amount. By the way, do my comments show up for others to read? You can answer in the Blog in a general statement about others enjoying reading the various comments or they can only be accessed by you. We enjoyed seeing you in the picture. This Travel Blog is great for that too. We're glad you've had this good start to your trip. It's yours to enjoy. There will be a lot of opportunities to experience a lot of new things. Enjoy the freedom, stay tight on your expenses (it's got to last for a while), and go after the adventure. Dad |
| 25th October 2005 Mom | Great traveling with you... - From: Frankfurt Hi Sweetheart, It was so great to hear from you and know that you did get some rest. The first time I went to Europe, Zurich was my first stop and I thought that I would "roll" all the way home from the excellent food over there.
