Well, Tuesday was an eventful day! I woke up in the morning to "wet". It was raining and we had a leak in the roof. It was dripping right down on the center of the bed. We decided to head back to Abbottsford, there were lots of RV repair shops there. We found one, they were booked solid and could not even work on it because ti was still raining. They suggested that we head north to Williams Lake, about 300 miles, to get out of the rain and the next repair shop. We drove most of the day in the rain and got to the RV shop just as they were closing. They told us to come back at 8:00 the next morning and they would get us right in. We went on to a ... read more

We left Portland this Morning and we are already in Canada. We had light traffic, especially considering it is Monday of the Memorail Day weekend. We stopped for lunch at "burgerville".It is this great burger joint the have in the Pacific Northwest. We had burgers and fresh fried asparagus. I took a photo of the skyline in Seattle as we went by. It was a beautiful drive. Clear skies with lots of wildflowers. We even saw 3 deer along the sides of the roads. To cross the border, we went on a highway that winds through the farmfields. We couldn't believe it when we pulled up to the border crossing, as you can see from the picture, there was no one there. They asked if we had any produce, we said "some bananas and 4 apples". ... read more

We decided to stay through Monday here in Portland. The weather has been perfect. Today we slept late and walked to a nicw cafe down the street for breakfast. Portland has so many little restaurant/cafes everywhere. The food is fantastic! This afternoon we went to see the new Star Trek movie. We hit the grocery store for provisions for the trip, then out to dinner. We went to a wonderful creole restaurant. I had jumbalaya and Ed had etoufee. Fantastic! We are waiting for the laundry to dry and then off to bed. We will head to Canada tomorrow. I do not think we will have internet access for the next several days. Next Friday we should be in either Port Edward, BC or Hyder, Alaska. Unless the plans change, and since there is no plan, ... read more

Sorry for the delay with the last posting. I did not enter all of the information that they wanted when I saved it, so it did not post. We spent Thursday morning Medford with Reto Buehler, Ed's favorite gunsmith. By the way Blake, Ed got to hold a Holland and Holland rifle. He was very excited by all of the "gun porn" (that's what I call it when he drools all over the beautiful rifles). We made good time getting to Portland. But, Oregon tries to support it's economy with road construction. We figure they must get a huge discount on the orange cones, ther are thousands of them! Oregon drivers are very courtous and obey the speed limits. It drives an aggresive driver like Ed crazy! I just keep asking him... Want a banana? That ... read more

We made it out of Big Bear by 9:30 on Wednesday morning. If you know Ed, you know what a feat that was! We went as far as Stockton the first day. A little over 400 miles. Scratch is very happy. It only took him about 30 minutes to figure out how to get from the truck into the camper and he has been there ever since. He did come out for a little while last night on the retractable leash. That went okay, until Ed hit the wrong button and tried to reel him in like a fish! We set out this morning at 9:30 and we were in Ashland by 3:30. Tonight we are camped under the trees right next to a creek. It is so quiet you can hear the water running. We ... read more
Visiting Patrick in Ashland

North America » United States May 18th 2009

We will be leaving Wednesday morning. Our first stops will be visiting the kids. We will see Patrick at Southern Oregon University, Thursday evening. We plan on having breakfast together on Friday morning, then on to Portland. Dana and Hansel will be waiting for us. We will spend a couple of days in Portland, leaving on Sunday for the border. We know this is Memorial Day weekend, but we figure if we can cross the border on Sunday, rather than Monday, we could be okay. We have a loose itenerary, at this point we have 55 travel days planned. That means 55 driving days. Most of the days are 2-6 hours. A few are longer due to road conditions and campgrounds. We have 35 free days that we can spend with freinds, sight seeing or just ... read more
