Danish skiiers in 80's style one piece ski outfits are a common sight on the slopes here. Hilarious! We get Rachel Ray here- I knew her perkiness was too good to be true! I will miss your blogs...It's been fascinating following your travels. Have a good trip home!
I think I accidentally sent my last comment without finishing (I'm typing with one hand and holding Trevor with the other) Anyway, that snow sounds like the kind we had in Denver this past winter! I'm glad you got out relatively unscathed...I also had to laugh at the rental story. I always find it funny when a worker at a store gets "bothered" when a customer walks in. Ha!
I can't wait to see you guys, but at the same time am sad that the Central/South American portion of your trip is over and I won't be able to read along with the blog entries anymore! It certainly provides a vicarious thrill from here in the BofA building.
ok may i just say that i can't stand rachael ray? sorry if anyone is a fan, but her coldness doesn't shock me in the slightest! now...i need to get me one of those 80's snowboarding suits! seriously!!
Juan V Thanks for all the wonderful pictures. We feel like we are there with you. And Juan Value...who knew he'd come from a line of such spectacular untapped potential?
Hey Emily and Dave! Natalie passed this onto me. I just wanted to say hi and let you know how great it was meeting you! Also...not sure if Natalie told you...but I am off for another RTW trip at the end of August. Hehe...
i laughed out loud several times reading this!!! too funny. i can just imagine dave saying "el ruso" to everyone that met steve and laughing then laughing hysterically.
Amazing pictures!! Machu Picchu looks like something out of a fairy tale. So great that Heidi could join you for the hike!! Is Heids still there? If so, say hi from me. I'm still thinking about rat beer! hmmmm...
hi-larious. i'd forgotten about carlos missing the bus and blaming it on his "broken i.d." that he was somehow able to either use anyway or replace at 5:30a.m. in cusco. we had some classic times! thanks for a great trip guys!!
When in doubt. . . hump the drum I remember studying Father Romero in Jesuit high school - at that innocent age, it made quite an impression on me.
I liked the guitar/mcguyver story - glad to see you guys are living the dream of music legends - Guy Terrifico would have been so proud.
The Great Condor Here is what I learned from Carlos: while being an American is all about Breakdancing and Jazzercize, being an Incan is all about Cocoa Leaves and Rat Beer (once necessarily has to follow the other). How is that for a great telling of inconvenient truths.
OK I am going all Latina you guys are amazing....your trip rocks and the photos are awesome...where do I sign up for your life :-) Did you get an apartment in Argentina yet? If not - I might know of one for you.
Have fun...
Kathleen (Olivia - I am changing my name to Olivia Balocchi) Shanahan
Em, I can't believe you agreed to have your picture taken with the gigantic, furry, scary spider. It must have taken a lot of willpower to go through with it!! Dave, did you actually fight the girl and the monkey? They both looked pretty agressive!
spider! Holy shit if I saw a spider like that I would have a heart attack...I'm very arachnophobic. Also those guinea pigs look nasty...this woman who works with us is half colombian and even she was shocked!
How is Arod's huge start playing in the Honduran and El Salvadoran press? Do they refer to the Yankee shortstop as El Jeter? And why no tributes to Daniel Ortega in the Nicaragua section of the report?
The journey continues there seems to be such contrast between the beautiful landscape of some of these places and the civil unrest, poverty and/or gov't corruption.
On a different note, happy birthday Dave and Trevor! A person equally surprised by Trevor’s arrival was his Mom! But he is up to 5 lbs. 14 oz. now, and doing well. Addy saw Trevor's picture on the blog and said "That's my baby brudder!".
Are you "Romancing the Stone" just kidding...I loved romancing the stone with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner (before she turned into a man that is)...and when ever I think of Cartagena I think...is Danny De Vito going to be eaten by an alligator. OK - no one will understand this unless they too are Romancing the Stone fans... :-) You two sound like you are having such an amazing trip. OK - Advice...you must advise me as to which country I should be buying beach front property? Have fun you two....literally I think the coolest couple around right now...
Let's play ball. Although Emily lists many of the charms of Cartagena, she neglects to mention that it is a baseball town the first place we’ve encountered that puts soccer on page 2 of the sports section. Our hotel has about 20 channels and four of them were showing ball games. It’s hard to leave.
Great details Thanks for writing about some historical notes and culture. As I research for my own arrival, a blog like yours is great to come by. Good luck in the rest of your travels. PS-how do I know which Girls are single? Striped skirts? :)
