Well it has been a very long time since I have written about my travels. I can't remember where I left off. So I am entering the last week of my time here in Greece and I have to say I am very sad. This has been an amazing experience and I hope that I will have the opprotunity to come here more often than once every four years or so. Very quickly I will share my travel experience to see my old room mates parents in Kiato (a city near Korinthos). I took the train from Lamia to Athens, I then had to take a metro of some kind from Athens to Kiato. Well to start it was about 100 degrees that day, and the metro to Kiato decided to shutdown. Doors were closed and ... read more

I forgot something.....the driving!!!!!! It is really a scary thing...you have a two lane road each lane has a shoulder, but unlike in the US the shoulder is used to drive on. So you are behind a truck on a two lane road and you want to pass....no problem just go around him, he will move over???? They make a two lane road into a four lane road...and they are going about 60 mph!!!!! Its not just the cars either, today I saw the same scenario above but it was with a bus and a truck!!! I mean honestly. My friend looked at me and said that is how people get in accidents around here.....I'm thinking at least they realize that its wrong...... Anyway....just remembered that as I was logging out. Until next time Take Care ... read more

Today I would just like to share some observations I discovered about the people and life here in Greece: Greece a place where........... men hug and kiss eachother on the cheek and don't think twice about it 89% of all conversations end with "fila polla" (kisses) you walk down the street and you will always run into someone you know, stop, wave and chat for a moment people stop and have a cup of coffee and have an actual conversation (on a daily basis) there is NO sense of urgency..... if you don't go to post office by 2pm you are out of luck until tomorrow....maybe air conditioning is a luxury "malaka" is used at the end of almost every sentence you see men driving in trucks filled with watermelon and a loud speaker These are ... read more

Well it has been a couple days since I last made an entry. That is because I took a 4 day road trip with my friend Kosta. We left on Thursday and drove to Korinthos and visited my old roomates parents at their house in Kiato (which is in Korinthos). They speak English, but there is still some things that are lost in translation. We had planned to stop and see them and then to visit with Kostas friends in the city of Korinthos. Well I must not have relayed that information good enough because they thought I was going to spend the night there.....boy oh boy....did I feel like an pice of you know what!!!!! I am planning on spending a couple of days with them but just not then. So after I insulted them ... read more

Yesterday we took a trip to a town called Meteora, the word means "in midair". It is about 1 and a half from Lamia, it would be closer but we had to travel up and down the mountains. At some point I am going to have to upload some pictures because this place is too hard to explain. The beauty, peacefulness, spirituality, amazment.......it is truly breath taking. In Meteora there are 6 monasteries each on the top of a rock. You wonder how they built these things. They have cable cars that connect some of the monasteries and before there were roads they have cables that hang from the top with a net that could lift things like food...people. Absolutley amazing. The views from here are just phenomonal!!!! The mountains that surround Meteroa and the rocks ... read more

What can I say about my day today? I missed a phone call from my Thea Voula, when I called back my Theo Lambro answered and said "you will come over for lunch today at noon". It wasn't even a question, just a demand (not in a bad way). So I laughed and looked at my friend Kosta and said we are going to lunch at Thea Voula's! There is absolutley NO way that you can argue with family. Well Kosta laughed because in Greece they don't eat lunch!!! They have coffee at Noon....I don't even know if they eat lunch. Maybe its something small and then around 9 or 10 o'clock they have dinner. It has been a challenge to eat like I do at home. In not so many words I expressed that to ... read more

I have been enjoying my time here in Lamia. The other day (not sure if I wrote about it) I went to a Greek concert. I can't remember who the band was but they were Great! They played in an outdoor stadium and we sat on the ground about 100 feet from the stage. They played for 3 hours NON STOP! The energy there was beauitful. My friend translated some of the songs and the lyrics were very moving. Towards the end of the concert the leader of the band told the people to come closer to the stage, by the end of the concert we were practically on stage! So cool, I don't think that would happen at home. It was a very intimate setting. The following day we went to the Sea! A small ... read more

Ok let me try this again. Yesterday I traveled from Athens to Lamia Greece. It is a city about 2 hours north of Athens. I took a bus. My sister and I had a few laughs at this bus station before. I get on the bus and take my seat, a cute little old Greek man decides to sit next to me, they bus is half empty. Anyway, he starts to speak to me in Greek and before he gets carried away, I let him know that my Greek is a work in progress. He doesn't understand this and begins guessing where I am from....Bulgaria....Albania....no no I am Greek....He finally gets what I am trying to say. Anyway after that was settled we had a nice conversation. From what I gathered, he has a brother that ... read more

Well today is my last day in Athens. Tomorrow I will venture to Lamia which is about 2 hours north. I will be taking the bus which should be an interesting experience. Last night I went out with my Thea Eve again. We walked around the city and ended up have pizza, salad and beer....traditional Greek food :) We ended our night having ice cream looking at the Acropolis, the moon was full the weather was mild the company was nice. Today I took my normal walk by the Acropolis then into plaka, on the way back I stopped at a cafe and got a Frappe...mmmmmm. At some point I will have to go out and get something to eat. That is one thing I have been forgetting to do? Weird. But then I get to ... read more
