Up early to get ready for our trip to Beauvais and flight to Barcelona. We did a test run on the Metro last night just to make sure we knew our way around and how long it would take us. Packed and out the door at 7:25, down the street and around the corner to the Metro. One train, 3 stops, another train 3 stops and we arrived at Gare du Nord at 7:52. Train leaves at 8:50 so plenty of time for a pastry and coffee. Had a German sounding fellow frantic to find someone who spoke English. I said I did and he promptly told a story of everything being stolen and asked for 5 Euros to help him out. I decided that should the same thing ACTUALLY happen to me I would hope ... read more

A bit of light drizzle this morning as we leave the apartment and walk up some very steep steps, hundreds of them to the Sacre Coeur Church. We wandered around the streets and found an aromatic scent emanating from this tiny little cafe. I experienced my first pain au chocolat and it definitely WILL NOT be my last. It was still warm from the oven. Trev had a scrumptious pear tarte along with a cafe au lait. The French coffee so far has been on the weak side and when added to the milk makes for a very mild hot drink. Enjoyable though. I'm not sure how these vehicles maneuver in such tight quarters but they do. The pedestrian definitely does not have the right of way here!! Amazing architecture and magnificent view of Paris from ... read more

Lovely breakfast with Gordon, Donna and Joseph before we said our goodbyes. Hopped the train from Kingston Upon Thames to Vauxhall and transferred to Kings Cross. HUGE train station in a gorgeous old brick building. Went to the Royal Mail Post Office across the street and after much consternation got 2 packages off to the US. First off didn't have Pounds Sterling and tried to pay for a postage box with Euros...no go. Left Trev with the loot and went down the street to find an Exchange Bureau and convert 4 Euros. Paid for the box and then realized it needed to be taped shut!! Back to the exchange for another 2 Euro exchange. Up to the counter with our packages and your man processes them quickly. Put my credit card in and it refused it. ... read more

Final tea party with Edgar and Georgie and off to the airport. A bit of a misstep with the Sat Nav but we eventually made it to the car rental return lot. Way early for the flight but better early than late. Now that I have left the country I can actually tell you what I think of the Irish folks!! They like to present this facade that is all jolly, laughter, happy go lucky but really they are uptight, paranoid CONTROL FREAKS!!(hehe) I came to that conclusion after seeing nothing but hedges surrounding their properties, if not hedges then fences, and if not fences then gates. They have serious issues with outsiders.....I'm convinced this is an accurate interpretation of this passive aggressive behavior. I understand control, wanting to control your universe but these folks take ... read more

Wednesday/Thursday Wonderful sleep out in the quiet countryside of Ballymoyle. Woke up to a chorus of chirping. Trudy & George off to work and Trev and I off to Powerscourt, south of Dublin to meet Phillip & Keith. Ahhhh, I'm in my glory with a huge garden to wander around but first, have to meet the family. So mad at myself that I didn't get a picture of Trev & Keith Delaney! So busy talking and listening to the 3 men that I completely forgot :( Once again, the "boys" spent time remembering younger days and the mischief they got up to.) Phillips wife Cheryl and his 2 daughters, Kirsty & Leoni joined us as well. Delicious lunch at the Sandwich Bar - BLT bagel and tea with a Chocolate Eclair for dessert! Said our goodbye ... read more

Had a quick breakfast with Geoff & Dawn and then off to Carrick convention for the morning meeting. Geoff escorted us out of town and up the motorway to our exit. Arrived about 9:30 in time for tea before meeting. Many came up to Trev and recognized him right off after 37 years and others he recognized and once they heard his name burst into a smile and said ack sure I remember you. We sat at lunch with Earl Delaney. He and his brother John came to Canada in 1990's and stayed so it was nice to get a chin wag in with him and his mother Mary. Left Carrick and headed to Dublin to Edgar and Georgie's. Transferred to their vehicle and headed to cousin Janice & Raymond in Moira, just outside of Belfast. ... read more

We arrive in Dublin to a very cool and overcast day! 12C. Quick processing through custom with a delightful agent who set a fabulously friendly tone for our time here. We opted for a GPS unit with the rental car as Trev's memory of streets etc is very faint. Off we go to Trev's uncle & aunt's house. 37 year old memory was accurate and he remembered their address! Wonderful warm welcome and great 4 hour walk down memory lane. Plugged in the address for our stop in Cork and promptly disagreed with the GPS. We knew we were heading south and it told us to go on M50 north!! So our disagreement resulted in a 2 hour trip taking 3.5 hours and a wonderful, if somewhat longer, drive down the east coast of souther Ireland ... read more

Time to put on the big girl panties and start packing this tiny suitcase. I have been mulling around for days what might fit, what I want to take etc. Still trying to figure out a way that I could have the big suitcase (a whopping few inches if you were wondering) that Trev has but not have to lug it around??? I do know that my cosmetic bag, hair dryer and bible will go in his case so that leaves me with a bit more room. It really wasn't too bad. We both have enough clothes for several days and we will have washer & dryers at each stop. It was fun complaining. PLUS, they do have stores where we are going :) The night kind of got away on me. Here it is 11:45pm ... read more

Are we really serious? Carry on only? Is it possible? HAVE YOU MEASURED ONE OF THESE SO CALLED SUITCASES? I think all of you reading this should have to get some cardboard and create this minuscule container! I'm sure most of you have a 5"x7" photograph so use the long side. Depth is 7". Now we have the significant width measuring 14". Any legal size paper around? Use the long side of this one too. Length is 20" - I can't think of anything around the house that is this size so you'll just have to get the tape measure. Shocking! I am having laundry nightmares as a couple changes of clothes is all I see fitting. I found some plastic bags that have a one way vent so when you roll it up the air ... read more

So sad....I lost the transatlantic ticket gamble...paid more booking 8 weeks in advance than I would have at 14 weeks when all the travel sites say best time is 6-8 weeks. Oh well, I guess we'll go without food for a few meals or sleep on the beach. I've been having moments of panic as I try and figure out how I'm going to pack everything I think I need in this tiny suitcase that fits the strictest carry on size!! I mean really, I'm not a small woman, my clothes alone have more material than many and I think they should take that into consideration when they determine allowances. After all, size case size should be relative to the person carrying the case. It's a good thing I'm traveling with this skinny European dude as ... read more
