Ballymoyle
The pastoral setting from our bedroom window Wednesday/Thursday
Wonderful sleep out in the quiet countryside of Ballymoyle. Woke up to a chorus of chirping. Trudy & George off to work and Trev and I off to Powerscourt, south of Dublin to meet Phillip & Keith. Ahhhh, I'm in my glory with a huge garden to wander around but first, have to meet the family.
So mad at myself that I didn't get a picture of Trev & Keith Delaney! So busy talking and listening to the 3 men that I completely forgot 😞 Once again, the "boys" spent time remembering younger days and the mischief they got up to.) Phillips wife Cheryl and his 2 daughters, Kirsty & Leoni joined us as well.
Delicious lunch at the Sandwich Bar - BLT bagel and tea with a Chocolate Eclair for dessert!
Said our goodbye and then went to wander this magnificent garden. Started in the 1600's by Viscount #1 and finished by Viscount #7 in the early 1900s. They must be a similar zone as Ferndale as I saw many plants that where the same as I have at home. 2 of my favorites, Bergenia & Peonies were in abundance. The Grand scale of this
Ballymoyle
Delightful garden place and the proportional ratios are impressive. Wished I could have purchased and sent home a few pots 😊 Lovely shopping area for the garden as well as the home. The Avoca Woollen Company had a spectacular display of Mohair throws and there were also Arran sweaters. Thought of buying one for the new grandbaby but couldn't find a size small enough!
Stopped in Enniskerry on the way home for a coffee and low and behold found 3 things to remind us of home. Ferndale B & B, a Mercedes 450sl convertible and a sign for Tim Horton's!! Delightful little village with interesting shops.
Proud of ourselves that we didn't have to stop and ask direction on the way back to Sunderland's in Wicklow…made one wrong turn but righted ourselves quickly.
Time for a glossary of terms for this country!! the boot = car trunk, footpath = sidewalk, strand = beach, lorry = large truck, rasher = bacon, twinned city = sister city, immersion = hot water tank, ESB-electrical supply board = power, salubrious - expensive high end, 454 digger - backhoe, has a pong off him = he smells!!!, shop = store, dodo - soother/binky, vicky
Ballmoyle
Work sheds = biscuit/cookie, chemist - pharmacist. Needless to say I had to ask for clarification often 😊 Fluttering about (pronounced floottering) = puttering/being busy, Pet = darling/sweetheart mainly used as an endearment for children. It brought back some wonderful memories of Grandma Good. She used that term of endearment all the time.
Off to Wicklow this morning with Trudy. Delightful town full of colors and quaint shops, narrow winding roads and street lined with gorgeous petunia handing baskets. Reminded us of Ferndale! We found a sweet shop for Trev and he found his lemon bon bons 😊 Big smile on his face as it brought back fond memories as a youngster going to the shops and loading up with this candy. I was expecting a hard candy but these were soft chewy tasty bits.
Avoca Mills was the next stop. Had to check out the local tourist spot. Absolutely beautiful colors and combination of colors woven into blankets, throws, shawls, pillow cases etc. It is actually a working mill and we were able to go through it room by room with big signs to help us understand the process at each stage of production. The shop was filled with
Delaney Family
Leoni, Phillip, Kirsty & Cheryl Delaney, Dublin finished product. I had to chuckle as some socks said, Designed in Avoca, made in Italy!!! 😊 We stopped for lunch and had a delicious meal. The food here has been amazing. Lots of flavor.
Off to Edwin & Wendy Sunderland's for dinner...my stomach now hurts from too much fabulous food and constant laughter! It was great to spend time with Edwin & Wendy. I have cabinet envy now though! A warming cabinet in the dining room. Heat the plates, serving dishes and just plain keep the food warm. This is definitely going on Trev's, furniture to build, list.
We are scheduled to be at Edgar & Georgie's for tea at 11am tomorrow and then flight to London at 3:25. It's time to say goodbye to Ireland. We had such a warm welcome from everyone and have thoroughly enjoyed our time.
