Boston - My Third visit ….Its February and still snowing. Having just arrived from Puerto Rico, my body kind of contracts to preserve the warm Puerto Rican sunshine. Good try, one step outside the terminal and the blast chills your lungs. Logan airport has a confusing car park ..so my brother-in-law who lives here is just as confused in locating the floor on which he parked his car. Several elevator switches and 20 minutes of walking through an icy blast we reach the car. The BIG DIG - My b-i-l, Ashim has been excited about this for a while - for a while??? Well, almost a decade. Result, several years of digging cavernous tunnels you have sinuous serpentive roads strangulating the city and confusing the hell out of drivers. So several missed turns later we make ... read more
Nice corporate job, a great family, some very endearing friends- life’s good, huh? But then it was still kind of wanting- a deeper need to re-discover what I had distanced myself over a period of time. Time to peel away the layers of ‘un-realism’, experience life -people, nature, living just the way it ought to be ..where the money you made, the car you drove, the “who” you are kind of faded into the background and you stood out vs people, nature and elements that challenged you to be just the way you were in your natural honest way. That’s exactly what excited Rakesh, a colleague & friend at work and me to explore a relatively unexplored journey and experience - a journey to 4200 mts - a journey that would possibly alter some of our ... read more
Whoa GOA!!! Beaches for miles, the sand and the surf, tall drinks in coconut shells, laze, munch on goan fare, snore………………………snort, thump …ouch - wake up pal, smell the coffee--- woke up on a wet flight from Delhi to Goa last Thursday. The flight has a stop at Mumbai where you change planes and with the drippy rain finding its way everywhere, its not exactly what gets your senses tuned to a visit to the Mecca of beach country in India—my reco; get that early morning straight flight from Delhi into goa. Add to this the fact that I was going to Goa on work - two business off-sites back to back. What a waste of an opportunity! Whilst you visualize running like a wild bronco down the beach side, the reality I knew would be ... read more
Sunday Morning - August 01 - picture perfect day for a chilled Sunday - picture this - cool breeze, sunny skies…..a loving dog wrapped around your feet, the wavering yells of two happy kids filtering through the curtains, bundles of Sunday papers that promise to keep you engaged for two hours - bliss ..bliss…bliss ???? Nope not for me …I am shaved ( hate on Sundays) and on my way to catch a plane to Mumbai…Duty calls over domestic bliss. So off I took a 9 am flight - uneventful, standard Jet air meals and then we land in Mumbai. The approach to Mumbai is not the world’s most pleasant sight even on the brightest of days - clusters of habitats strangulate the boundary wall of the airport almost choking the life out of it ... read more
The last drive up from Delhi to the Himalayas commenced on an “exciting” note - an excited two kids in the rear seat checking if the mountains were round the bend every 20 minutes. A cool wind in an early summer morning with the sun breaking behind some rather neat clouds had all the indications of a great vacation till…we landed in this huge monstrous jam at the Delhi wholesale veggie market with every conceivable vehicle of transport whizzing in all directions - guess this sudden change to chaos overwhelmed me to an extent wherein I allowed this half blind truck driver to rip -off my right tire and the bumper at 6:30 in the morning - boy oh boy --- all the coolness disappeared—suddenly I had two wailing kids, a very upset wife , a ... read more
