Broome continued Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Broome
Joe flew to Perth on 12th October and, after mourning and feeling a tad lost for a day or so, I moved to Cable Beach Backpackers with Sian and Anna. I soon gained a job Housekeeping at Cable Beach Resort, which is what they were already doing. We walked to work each day, and after 3 days training were sent out alone with a trolley and a list of rooms. For services we were allowed 20mins and 1 hour for departures. Although it was very hot, we were in and out of rooms - thank goodness for air con! After working [View Full Entry]

Broome Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Broome
02.10.05 After a long, hot drive, we arrived in Broome, checked out the campsites but by then we were pretty fed up on them, so we checked into the cheapest hostel - $15 for the 1st night. Knowing that you get what you pay for, it was ok... but not many people around, kitchen was upstairs and our qualified bed-checker, Joe, found the odd bed bug... We stayed anyway. For a week at least. Joe booked his ticket back to Perth for a week's time, the girls and Hayden started job hunted. As did I, but half-heartedly as it was too [View Full Entry]

The Irish Girls!

Continuing our journey up the coast, we discovered that Pardoo Station, the roadhouse we wanted to stay at had closed down. So we ventured along a bumpy track, to Eighty Mile Beach. This is basically a campsite with many holiday makers, with only a beach for entertainment! A very relaxing place to spend the evening but by now we are tiring of campsites and having limited activities to entertain us once the sun has set! Bring on the bright lights of Broome! Bye bye sun!

In convoy, we headed to Karijini National Park, after stocking up on food, checking tyre pressure etc! We tried to drive the bumpier route for a little while, but as Sian and Hayden took it the their (4X4) stride, little miss Tessie wasn't enjoying herself one bit. So we turned back, took the road route and met the 4X4ers at the Visior's Centre, where we paid for 2 nights in the 'campsite' ($5 per night per person). The so-called campsite was simply a piece of bumpy red ground, which I was glad not to be camping on! Oh and there was [View Full Entry]

Triumphant!

We left Coral Bay, after three chilled days, and arranged to meet Hayden and Sian (who can leave later as they drive faster!) at Nautarra Roadhouse. But on arriving there at 3pm and finding next to nothing, we agreed to drive onwards to Paraburdoo. We had no phone signal so a note was left on the roadhouse door for when Hayden & Sian arrived! On arrival at Paraburdoo, we found there is no campsite! So we found a carpark next to some public toilets (classy) and Anna bunked in with us! A (scared) hour or so later, Sian & Hayden came [View Full Entry]

Stromatolites Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Coral Bay
First stop of our journey was to see the infamous Stromatolites. They didn't look like much but these 'things' were the origin of life on earth! They released oxygen into the atmosphere and eventually caused levels to rise high enough for other life forms to exist on earth. Anyway, enough of all that science talk; back into the car and onwards, firstly to Carnarvon for supplies and sleep, and then onto Coral Bay. [View Full Entry]

Monkey Mia Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Denham
As we drove, the days got warmer, as if we driving into summer! And I guess we were... With a few stops for views, we arrived in Denham and stocked up on tinned food in preparation for our few days in Monkey Mia. Oh, but we gained a cheap tank of fuel because, lucky for us, a guy had a leak in his Jerry can!! :-) That night we watched the sunset and encountered crabs...! The next morning we started work as Volunteer dolphin feeders! Our role consisted of arriving at the ‘fish room’ at 8am each morning. Rows of customers [View Full Entry]

Joe and I set off and once I'd finished getting lost round Perth, we began our journey North! Good chats and music combinations later, we'd taken a detour, seen some lizards and returned to the Pinnacles we had accidentally passed! Our first night was spent in the van, at Jurian Bay. Our second night was spent in Kalbarri and on the third, we finally arrived in Monkey Mia to begin volunteer work with the dolphins the next day! [View Full Entry]

Partying in Perth Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Perth
Following my time working for Don Green, I drove Craig and Loren back to Perth with me, where they were to buy a van and I was to arrange the next leg of my journey... In dire straits for a while, feeling pretty lost having been removed from the 'safety bubble' of Kal. I stayed in a hostel with the Irish girls we had met on during passing thru Kal a month or so earlier. Lacking girly company in Kalgoorlie, I showed the girls the sights and skimpy bars of Kal! In return, they looked after me and took me clubbing [View Full Entry]
