This Picture is of me from my webcam eating a DOOWAP. It's a French pastry called a brioche (kind of a roll type thingie) with chocolate chunks in it. Super delicious!!

Yes it has happened. VCU is beast. As I sit here and type this VCU is showing the world that we want it more. I hope we win cause if we don't then this will look so silly. There are so many freaking commercials for these games. I never knew just how many there were until I watched a game here and found out that they only did 2 minutes of commercials at halftime and that was it. It's even worse because these are all the same commercials over and over again and at the most random times throughout the game. I've been told by the Appelbee's lady to stop watching my laptop and go down to my local Applebee's about 5 times so far. The nearest Applebee's? Uhhhh the closest Applebee's. Riiiight. I told her ... read more

The transition from vacation to school again was not a smooth one. I tried not to consume so much caffeine on Monday to see how my body handled being up so early and working/thinking hard and it did not do well. I fell asleep in most of my classes and crashed as soon as I got back to my room at 3h15 and slept til around 7h. I was a little stressed out because I was not prepared for an exam in my Italian grammar class and failed it majestically (oh it can be done). I don't like the structure of the class and I think it has a lot to do with my learning progress. The class is split up in the day. I have lecture for 1h30 and that's just the professor reading off ... read more

I know it has been ages. I have been busy! School is finally going well. Sort of. One of my professors broke his hip or something and changed the room of the class and of course I had no idea because no one emailed me to tell me. Duh. Cause organization here is nonexistent. So I've missed two classes now and a test without even knowing it. It's okay though because I emailed the professor. I'm sure it will get sorted out easily because everyone here thinks international students here are retarded, especially Americans, and so I'll play that up for once and get a redo. Thank God for stupid people. I kind of got a small cold from the massive amounts of rain we had last week but it is on its way out so ... read more

Just got back from school and I feel so worn out. I have almost created my schedule for the semester and I am so happy to be done with it because it has caused me no end of grief. I have to find a different time for my French/English translation classes because they conflict with a lecture class I have on grammar and I REALLY need that lecture class. I met a girl from Ireland named Jesse who is in almost all of my Italian classes and I found out she's in the same boat as I am. We both have had roughly two years of Italian classes from scratch (not knowing anything/or very little before starting). She was here the semester before and had a really rough start because she didn't know (as did I) ... read more

WHOA! It's been AGES since I've written. To all of my dedicated fans, I sincerely apologize. To be honest I have been going to a lot of parties trying to meet as many people as possible. It's been a great success so far. Most of this is due, in part, to my new friend Anna. She was introduced to me by guess who: Titou. He had met her at a party and she had told him that she loved America and that she also happened to be from Italy. Peeeeeerrfect. She only lives a floor above me and so I left her a note on her door and we've been hanging out a lot since then. A quick description of her: she's from Padova (near Venice), she's tiny (shorter than me), with long brown hair and ... read more

It's been a while. Since Thursday. Let me go out of order and say Sunday was a complete bust. I didn't get out of bed until 6pm and then just stayed in my room doing I don't even know what. Friday was much more interesting. I met Ellen downtown and did some choice shopping. I went by myself for the very first time and it was so liberating. I loved being on my own, on my own time, doing what I wanted. So nice. We met up and immediately hit the stores. The soldes (or sales) goes to sometime in February so we were getting the best of it. Ellen was looking for some shoes to make her butt look good and I was down to get whatever I saw. I got a sweater dress at ... read more

Who knew there was a science to coffee? It is apparently one linked to the history of Nice itself. Let me explain. Today Marissa and I had a meeting with Davide Salotto (why yes he IS Italian and you DO pronounce the last E) and his secretary Marija (pronounced Maria...I promise) at 12 noon for lunch and an orientation to follow. We met them at their offices and were pleased to see another person who looked vaguely lost just like we did. It turns out that the semester, the University of Nice is hosting 3 American students. This student is Jonathan from Utah. He is here like Marissa to study French and maybe some History. The three of us chatted for a few minutes while Davide and Marija finished up their work. We walked a few ... read more

Well wasn't yesterday just an interesting time all around?? Marissa and I definitely had a great adventure or two. Let's dive right in shall we? At 11am we had a meeting with Etienne, the man in charge of registration at the university. From what our advisor here told, we would also be choosing our classes so we were really excited. When we got there ( we were right on time if not a minute or two early) there was already a lady talking to him. I knew from reading this book called "French or Foe" on French culture that we would probably have to walk a few minutes for them to finish whatever it was they were talking about before we could begin our meeting (even though ours was scheduled). Okay so 45 minutes later (no ... read more

Let me just start by saying that I got 2 that's right 2 compliments on my French...AND they were both from French people!!!! Yes that's right; I mean not that I was ever in doubt of this OBVIOUS fact....it's just nice to have it reenforced by the oh so generous populous. Well let me get back to where I left off last night with my expedition into laundry territory (eep!) So I started by trying to sort out my clothes according to color. I had three main piles one with really colorful stuff, one of gray stuff, and one with blacks. Okay correction I had four piles. The fourth was this striped white and black polo that I was unsure about. Well I knew the color pile was good for a load by itself so I ... read more

Today was pretty awesome. Let me share it with you. I slept in til 1230 and when I woke up I watched Ferris Bueller's Day off while I ate these breakfast crackers called Petit Dejeuner with soy milk and yogurt. After that Marissa and I decided we had cabin fever and went for a walk on the beach which only took about 10 minutes by foot. Once there we attempted to walk on the rocks (these beaches don't have sand, rather smallish gray rocks that are really hard to walk on and probably even harder to lay on) but soon gave up because of how difficult it was to walk on the rocks and also it was harder to spot dog merde. What is merde you ask....merde is French for shit. And there is definitely a ... read more
