For our next venture, we took the train from Hong Kong and walked across the border into China proper. The border city is Shenzhen, quite possibly one of the largest conurbations there is - easily an hour on the motorway through solid tower blocks and factories. Top Times * Panoramic views * City lights * Live markets * Chinese food - spicy crab and hotpot * Vodka shots in a freezer bar We've now seen Hong Kong in every phase of haze. Great for sunsets. Stayed at a hotel in Causeway Bay overlooking the city and harbour. Met up with an old work colleauge of Dave's, Nick, and girlfriend Kristi, who took us to some hidden (litterally behind an unmarked door in one case!) authentic Chinese restaurants. Top Times * Snorkelling with hundreds of fish species in warm seas * Paul and Adele's wedding - great to catch up with old friends and meet new * Kayaking in Little Lagoon - like being in silent prehistoric times * Barefoot disco at the wedding * Kayaking out to watch the sunset Well, we correctly assessed Manila as a place we wouldn't want to hang around. Although the hotel we stayed in was nice, a privately run secure spot near the airport, the general feeling was dismal yet lightened by the glimmer of shining jeepneys which dominated the horrendous traffic.
