* Wandering around Ljubljana
* Magnificent landscapes
* Dave enjoying being at the Med coast

The first thing you notice about Slovenia is the superb scenery and mountains, a striking contrast to the flatter part of Hungary we were previously in. It really is a small country that packs a geologically large punch with great variety including even Mediterranean coastline.

Slovenia was a relatively short leg for us, starting at a small, fantastic little campsite near Maribor which being essentially deserted again, in August, made us think we had perhaps done the right thing coming east during the supposedly busy European summer months. From there we visited the pretty medieval town of Ptuj.

Next it was to a campsite about 15 miles north of Ljubljana. It was a good location to be, since rather than cycling to Ljubljana directly, we instead had a fantastic ride through a valley with the imposing Julian Alps all around to Kranj and took the train to Ljubljana from there. Ljubljana itself was a really pleasant city, a lot smaller than we expected. With something like 40000 students there (1/7th of the population), it seemed quite a young city,
"I don't understand why I'm putting on weight?""I don't understand why I'm putting on weight?""I don't understand why I'm putting on weight?"

A picture speaks a thousand words
yet still old-world in the centre.

Christina took a flight from the nearby airport to London to attend a friends “hen” party, while Dave was left alone to his own devices for a few days. He went cycling in the same region again (getting absolutely soaked this time) and then onto the coast at Potoroz. This is supposed to be the Blackpool or Atlantic city of Slovenia, but in reality nothing seemed farther from the truth with it being a really agreeable little resort with negligible tackiness to be found much to Dave’s disappointment,

From there Dave drove to a campsite in Venice Italy, literally next to the airport there, where he left Trevor the van while he went to a stag weekend in Berlin. Trevor would be left unattended for a few days until Christina and Dave arrived back in Venice to continue the journey in Italy.
