Life in a refugee camp Africa » Ghana » Greater Accra » Accra
So I'm currently in Accra for the day - sitting in an amazingly air conditioned internet cafe - I already told me friends they're going to have to tear me outta here to go back out in that heat! Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a sauna, hot yes but it feels soo good...got it? Okay now imagine you're in a sauna with ALL your clothes on...got it? Okay, that's how I feel 24/7...it's worth it though...the work that I'm doing here...its amazing. I have never felt soo much passion or energy for any work that I've done. I know [View Full Entry]

Holy HOT! I'm writing my first blog from Ghana and while I sit here sweat is gushing from my body...yea, pretty gross I know! But besides the fact that I'm back to dripping once again life is fabulous! I've only been here for 6 days now but I already love this place. My flight from Kenya was easy enough and was brought right to camp. There are currenly 8 of us volunteering here- Cameron 28 Canada, Nikol 22 Canada, Jimmy 23 England, Takako 28 Japan, Jennifer 23 Texas, and Erin (Ohio) and Martina (Slovakia) are a couple from the States. They're [View Full Entry]

Karibu Kenya! Africa » Kenya » Nairobi Province » Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya! I should have written a blog some time ago but have been busy here! Now I've been here for almost five weeks and am leaving on Wednesday for Ghana! I can't believe how fast my African adventure is going and am sure that the next 3 months will fly by! I just got back a few days ago from spending 10 days in Mombasa - city on the Indian Ocean- with friends and with my mom and aunt! Um, so yea the Indian Ocean is amazingly beautiful! But the resort that Timmie and I stayed at with my [View Full Entry]

Okay, soo lots to catch you all up on! My last week in Alex was an emotional one - saying goodbye to these people was beyond difficult as they were my best friends, my family, my support for 3 months - it's crazy to think how close you can get with people when put into situations such as this. But then I went and spent 5 days at the Red Sea - Sharm el Sheikh with two of my British friends and my friend Ellen, from Miami - it was a blast though it wasn't "egypt". It's on the Sinai which [View Full Entry]

So I'm sitting here at a cafe using my friend's laptop to finish uploading all 700 pictures of my trip to Luxor and Aswan and everything inbetween! Let me start off my sayu]ing that Ramadan has kind of put a damper on our social life during the day - absolutely EVERYTHING is closed- internet cafes, restaurants (well, they may be open but they're not serving food!), grocery stores, etc. - It's pure luck that this cafe is open (it's only Christians here as they're not fasting). However, that being said it definitely brightens up the nightlife! After Iftar people are back [View Full Entry]

Trip to the Siwa Oasis Africa » Egypt » Western Desert
So last Thursday we left for the Siwa Oasis, out in the Sahara Desert (sorry, but do you know how cool that sounds to be able to say that I've been out in the Sahara!), near the Libyan Border. It was a 9 hour bus ride so we took it at night so that it wouldn't be so hot compared to if we traveled during the day. We had no plans except that we knew we wanted to do a desert safari. We arrived at 5am, found a hotel and slept. When we got up we went to have breakfast - [View Full Entry]

So I finally got the rest of my pics loaded up from the first month of my time here in Egypt. There are quite a lot and the links to reach them are at the bottom of this page. I was in Cairo/Luxor/Aswan last week and had an asbsolutely fabulous time. I will write about that next week once I've got all those pics loaded (I took about 700 - I know crazy but I went to sooo many Pharonic sites it was impossible not to). I'm heading to the Siwa Oasis tomorrow - it's an oasis way out in the [View Full Entry]

Trip to the pyramids Africa » Egypt » Lower Egypt » Giza
First I want to say sorry that I haven't written a blog in three weeks, especially since I went to the pyramids and wanted to share that trip with everyone. First this website was down and I ended up losing the first two blogs that I wrote so they promised that it shouldn't happen again so my fingers are crossed, but so I was unable to log in for about a week and then these past 2 weeks have been super busy. So two weeks ago we went to Cairo and saw the pyramids - my dream trip! It was absolutely [View Full Entry]

Buying my houkah
Walk like an Egyptian - take 2
The crew

So my last day is today in Chile (and my last travelblog-for this journal at least-in South America--for the time being!)...and im super sad. I leave at 3pm to go to Santiago and then take the 8:35pm Delta flight to Atlanta, then to LaGuardia, take a taxi to JFK and then a 3pm flight to Burlington, getting in around4pm. It has been a stressful week trying to pack--im still not finished and am leaving a ton of stuff here :(, saying my good-byes---wayyy too emotional, and my exams. Turns out I only had one final, instead of two, which was a [View Full Entry]

So i just spent the past five days in santiago (the capital of chile) and had an absolute blast! we stayed in a hostel just five blocks from La mondeda (the chilean version of the white house) and the main center of downtown santiago. We went to the Plaza de los Derechos Humanos (The Human Rights Plaza)---super sad. It is a memorial park--dedicated to those who were murdered during Chilean´s dirty war--the overthrow of Allende and dictatorship of Pinocher where over 2000 lives were lost. At this park is a wall with pictures of those who were detained, tortured, murdered and [View Full Entry]
