...well, back in Gawler after 52 hours on the Ghan travelling the 3,000 ks from darwin to Adelaide. What a great experience. Food and company was terrific. Spent the last 2 days in Darwin at the Casino pampering ourselves....very nice. The train stopped for 4 hours in Katherine and Alice Springs to let passengers do the 'tourist thing'. We just bummed around in Katherine but we went camel riding in Alice.....and it was really good fun. It was a pleasant 21 degrees, sunny and zero flies. Food on the Ghan was fantastic....but far too much for us. 3 courses every meal.....plus morning tea (today). Sleeping was fun in our bunk beds but it was all good. Last day tomorrow with the run to Paky. Our friend met us at Darwin raliway station and gave us 300 ... read more

....ready to catch the train tomorrow. Have spent the days here relaxing and recharging our batteries....literally. Will be an early start on Wednesday as I need to have the car at the train about 6.30am and then wait around until Deb arrives about 8:30. Going back to have a look at the museums today and then a nice dinner at the casino. The Casino is very nice with a fantastic pool and relaxation area. Beautiful sunset on the beach last night topped off a great day relaxing.... see you all soon....... ... read more

....well I would consider us to be very security conscious, so much so that it irritates Deb to distraction, always locking the car and the camper lockers but it was all for nothing when a very brave thief crept into our camper (after unzipping the door) and stole our phones, Deb's handbag and the MAC computer. Left the chargers behind. The bag turned up in another person's annex and was handed in. Luckily all our cards were still there so they only wanted money and cash items to sell..If we lost the cards I suspect we would have been a bit screwed for a few days waiting for replacements.... The bad news is that we have lost all our photos taken with Deb's camera (the camera they missed btw) as we had loaded them all to ... read more

....OK, so we have had the best time in Kakadu which completely made us forget that Mr Obama is coming to town....we are so excited about this that we are heading to the bush....again. After we had got up close to crocs the other day on our cruise down Yellow Waters we stopped by at Adelaide River for a jumping crocs cruise....Pigs heads on the end of a stick is the bait and it didn't disappoint. Thrilling and lets you realise why you need to stay in the boat!!! Watched some guys fishing with big crocs around at a river crossing....got to have marbles for brains... We have also seen a stack of Aboriginal art and a few pretty specky waterfalls and rock pools.... ........at 800 shots on the digi camera we are looking to bore ... read more

....well hi there happy bloggers.....we have finally hit the wall with the heat....never get's below 30 so the fridge just keeps running and running and running....so we either had to sit with the solar panels all day to keep the in the sun (yes there are many trees here so getting clear sun on the panels is a challenge) or buy a power supply....so we now have a Waeco fridge power unit....runs a treat. So today we packed away the panels and zipped over to Katherine Gorge for a 3 gorge tour, excellent. We had already done our helicopter flight yesterday. Tomorrow we are off to Kakadu and Gunlom falls. (probably stop there for the night). Our itinerary is pretty fluid from here.... Love us xxxxx ... read more

Howdy blog readers...we we hit the road on Tuesday morning after 5 lively days (not) at Tennant Creek. We won't need to return there. Zipped up the Stuart hwy and stopped at Daly Waters...what a fantastic old pub. Reminded us of the pub we stopped at in Corner country...NT/SA/Qld intersection. After a night there we got away to Mataranka. We had the best time floating away in the hot spring, called "Bitter Springs", it was truly a great experience. The water was crystal clear and warm..... Today we have arrived at Katherine after a stop at Cutta Cutta caves. Really interesting cave system that floods every wet season. Have settled into our camp in Katherine now and have dusted our whole area with ant killer powder and talcum powder...the ants up here are a real problem, ... read more

.....all we can say is they better receive the correct trailer part tomorrow morning or we may just about go postal!. Have checked out every attraction in town and surrounds over the last 3 days and are officially ready to move on. We seem to have mastered the management of the annoying biting ants that seem to be infesting everything in sight. The Patrol tyres sit inside 4 squares of Ant killer powder, plus talcum powder....seems to keep the buggers out! And the park people have done their bit to keep them out of our digs so all good.... Have a roast lamb dinner in the oven and are ready to get the trailer back tomorrow, pack up and be ready for departure first thing on Tuesday.....hooray....but they better have the part......I'm just sayin! Next update ... read more

OK, so after breaking the new record for most Ks in a day (640) we arrived at Tennant Creek and promptly had the trailer in to see the trailer doctor whose assessment was that it was seriously broken and no clever welding or trickery was going to get it on the road without new parts.......from Adelaide...yeehaa... So while our new suspension springs are travelling up we are going to enjoy the sights and sounds of Tennant Creek. This could usually be covered in an afternoon really but we are going to spread it out......real thin! Off to check out the local chinese eatery tonight... apparently the best in NT! A fella we were buying some new walking boots for Pete from spoke highly of it and that tonight was special because he was the entertainment for ... read more

.....well, we have racked up the Ks over the past week and had a great time so far....got a bit wet yesterday and it is still raining a bit today but all is going well. Packing up the camper in the rain has totally got knobs on it!!!! Walked the canyon floor this afternoon and are now resting at the bar with a couple of drinks...my $12 cougar is going to last a while i reckon... Fuel has hit $2.20 a litre so the refills almost need an overdraft approval... Heading for the canyon rim walk in the morning....6K return. Will be great we reckon. Hopefully we will get some sunshine at some point... Pete & Deb xxxxx PS. Hope you figured out how to read this mum...it was good to chat last night.... read more
