Excellent Blog, love your style of writing Hi Chris and Amy,
I stumbled across your blog while preparing for our visite to Sumatra later this year. If somebody would ever doubt to visit Sumatra; your blog should be prescribed. It is great to read about places we will visit as well. The pictures are beautiful. We simply can't wait to go, but it is still 7 months away. We will visit both Sumatra and Java. Thank you very much for the excellent stories, written in a style most travel writers can only dream of.
Kolkata... Kolkata was our first introduction to India as well..... There's nothing like jumping in at the deep end!!! :)
Darjeeling was one of our highlights of India, although it was bloody cold... Wrap up warm!
Safe travels...
Wow! We have really enjoyed all of the blogs you have published on Myanmar. Gorgeous photos and great writing, we really hope to get there before the tourist hordes arrive and change the country too much. You encounter with the novice monk was great - he seemed so keen to learn and eager to learn about the world. Looking forward to your next blog!
Thanks!! Thank you guys, glad to hear that you've enjoyed them :) The hordes haven't yet invaded, but there is more tourist infrastructure than we expected already!
Loved every single photo! You are an excellent photography and it enriches your blogs. Your writing is very good also. We are going to Myanmar in November and your blog has us so excited. We were supposed to go in 2007 but the riots broke out and we changed our plans.
Probably a good decision to change plans! We were speaking to a Burmese guy yesterday who told us he was studying in Mandalay at the time of the riots and had to leave the city and return to his village. Hope your trip in November hits no such obstacles!
water, water everywhere. As usual brilliant pictures, your blog captures the very essence of the country, its like being there through your eyes. Travel books should be knocking at your door because of your blogs, continue writing them, keep enjoying your travels and stay safe. regards Paul.
Wonderful stuff :) Your pictures most certainly do the lake justice! What is the story behind the white, powdery substance on some of the people's faces? Any ideas?
Thanks! The 'face paint' is used as a sun block and also for other cosmetic reasons such as conditioner. Its called 'thanaka' and is made from a mix of tree bark and water. Amy wanted to try it out on the hike but nobody was offering!
We are Amy and Chris. After completing our first attempt at a round the world trip in 2012, we are currently fitting in careers around our enduring need to see the world.
Our blog is primarily for family and friends, but we are always flattered to learn that others have read (and on occasion even enjoyed) our writing and photographs. With that said...
Afoot and light hearted, I take to the open road. Healthy, free, the world before me.
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose...you road I enter upon and
look around! I beli... full info
