Hey guys, After we returned to Munich from Croatia, Mark and Kris headed back to the States for a bit. Matt and I were hanging out in Wombat's, great hostel near the train station, and were trying to come up with some travel plans. Luckily, he happened to find a good deal on a train to Budapest, Hungary. On a whim, we bought the tickets for three days in advance and decided that we would go to Budapest, hang out for a few days, and then go backpacking in an area of the Carpathian mountains in the north of the country, [View Full Entry]

The train to Zagreb went through the Austrian and Slovakian Alps.
Hey guys, Sorry about the delay. After I finished my summer language course, I went traveling with some friends of mine from the program. During that time I didn't have my laptop and was just checking email out of internet cafes. I'm back in Munich now, and I'll attempt to fill you guys in on my more or less five week trip through Eastern Europe. My first stop was Croatia. Matt, Mark, Kris, and I took a train from Munich to Zagreb (the capital of Croatia). That night we hung out in town and ended up sleeping in the airport to [View Full Entry]

Hey guys, I'm getting a little behind with the whole travel blog thing, but here's some recent news. We toured Khala Porcellain the other day, and it was pretty impressive for all of the engineers in the group. It's the largest porcellain producer in Germany, and has been around for a while. It was re-privatized when the wall fell, and most of the production processes were automated. Since I'm going to be doing research for Siemens in the automation department next summer, I thought it would be a good preview. After the factory tour, we visited the Leuchtenburg castle. It [View Full Entry]

Finally in Germany!

This is the view from outside Mark's grandparents' house in Pirmasens
Hey guys, So I'm finally in Germany. I've actually been here for a while, but the internet situation in Weimar is a little complicated. For the first two days of my trip I stayed with two friends--Mark and Matt--at Mark's grandparents' house in Pirmasens (kind of close to Frankfurt, but right on the French border). They didn't speak any English, so I got a good German warm-up. After that I took a series of trains to get to Weimar. Usually the system is punctual and easy to figure out, but our train into Frankfurt was late, and we only had [View Full Entry]
