Straight off the plane, we hit the ground running in Paris, after the first sight of the Eiffel Tower (Around the corner from the hotel), we walked 4km down the river Seine finishing up at the Lourve. The Lourve, one of the worlds great museums, did not disappoint. We wandered through the various exhibits spending the most time in the Mona Lisa and the Egyptian exhibition. I've always thought the best way to see a new city is to jump on the Hop On Hop off tour buses and Paris was no exception. We jumped on at the Eiffel Tower and went on three out of the four lines throughout the day, giving us a good overview of Paris. Heading down the Champs Elysees, we saw stall after stall set up.. Of course! The Christmas markets, ... read more

Dalat- the Paris of Vietnam, it even comes with an Eiffel Tower, is much cooler than the rest of Vietnam. We arrived in Dalat after a 5hour drive from Nha Trang, unfortunately the cold I was coming down with in Nha Trang had well and truely hit me and I felt terrible. Despite this, we did manage a city tour in Dalat seeing the coffee region and the flower region. Dalat is well known for its wine, coffee, and flowers and had I been feeling better, we would've visted the wine region. Dalat was a lovely place but unfortunately since I felt so terrible (Chris wanted to take me to hospital), we didnt see or do too much.... read more

After waving good bye to Denang, we were collected from the hotel and taken to Denang Airport for our flight to Nha Trang. Check in and security was probably the smoothest I’ve ever had and as quick as a flash, we were sitting in the small departure lounch. Once our flight was called, we boarded a small bus and were on our way to our aircraft, complete with propellers.. Right, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Upon takeoff, it become obvious that if you wanted a view, you would get one the entire flight as we didn’t seem to make it above the clouds once. From the old gentleman who got out of his seat when the plane started its descent, to the Asian guy in front of us who was on his phone ... read more

The trip from Hue to Hoi An is a long one, approximately a 2.5 hour drive. On the way our guide invited us to see the most beautiful part of Vietnam, as stated by Jeremy Clarkson on TopGear (so therefore it must be true hehe), and it was pretty. As we got closer to Denang, we were invited to a Cham museum, a group of people that had settled in Vietnam, one lucky guy decided to follow us around and got a free tour When we arrived in Hoi An, we had lunch with the guide who volunteered to take us on a walking tour of Hoi An where he would show us good restaurants and a good tailor. As there was to be a full moon festival the next night, he booked a balcony table ... read more

A 5hour lay over, a 2hour flight and a 2hour drive, we finally arrived at our hotel in Hue to a grand reception. There were official looking cars and security everywhere we looked. Upon asking the hotel staff what was going on, we were informed that the Governor General of Australia was hosting a party at the hotel that night and our names had been left off the guest list (Rude, I know! Hehehe), After booking some tours, we stepped out into the Hue heat and began exploring. Later that night, sitting in the hotel bar, the Governor General walked past and I managed to snap a photo, I wasn’t the only one as there were obviously people who has been sitting in the bar waiting for her to walk past. Our first full day in ... read more

After our last trip to Vietnam, Chris and I decided a return was on the cards. And not just a simple return trip to Vietnam, a huge trip that would ensure we would see everything in Vietnam we wanted to see. This is how I found myself on a rickety sleeper train heading up through the Vietnamese mountains to a small tour called Sapa, less than 2kms from the Chinese border. We had left Perth on Saturday night and by the time I set foot on the train on Sunday night, all I was hoping for was good nights sleep. Alas this wasn’t to be the case, although Chris slept perfectly, I found myself lying away through the jerky movements on the train to the sudden stops and what I am still convinced was the sound ... read more

Europe » Germany » Hesse » Frankfurt October 21st 2009

Thats how I was greeted by the Immigration officer in Frankfurt. After first disembarking from the plane, there were police at the gates asking to check everyone's passports. Seeing an Australian passport we were waved through, they only seemed concerned were the Russian ones. Last stop and one I was definately looking forward to was Frankfurt, after spending some time there at the end of my trip last time. With not so much time, and even less after a 3hr delay in Moscow we hit the ground running, booking two tours, one a day trip to the Rhine River the next day. Heading out to the Rhine, our first stop was lunch where Coke cost more than wine! Lunch was nice though and after it was out to the boat that would take us on a ... read more

We arrived in Moscow late, approximately 10pm after a 6hr train ride from St Petersburg. Luckily we’d manage to secure transfers before we left and there was our driver waiting at the end of the platform. It could’ve been very interesting trying to secure a taxi and also nerve-racking seeing the number of police and officials around and trying to get a taxi would’ve put the bright neon “tourist” sign over our heads. We arrived at our hotel the Aerostar, while in the middle of nowhere, was gorgeous, definitely the flashiest we’ve stayed in. After asking the price of the internet, we both looked at each other abit worried about what we were gonna do for dinner. Luckily and very surprisingly, dinner prices were very reasonable, thankfully since there is nothing else around. Walking towards the ... read more

Europe » Russia » Northwest » Saint Petersburg October 16th 2009

A six hour train ride to Moscow is what the day had in store for me. The wind in St Petersburg that blew straight through you, threatening to take your umbrella with it, quickly put an end to any ideas we had to spend our last few hours wandering the old streets. Back to the hotel and a long lunch, before jumping in the waiting car to take us to the train station. Thankfully, since traffic was about as awful as the weather, the station was only 20minutes away. Leaving Chris to decipher the information board written in Cyrillic, I found the ladies restrooms. 17roubles for a hole in the ground, ah Im back in South Asia except 17roubles is a lot more than the 1ringet you would pay for the bathroom in Malaysia, and part ... read more
