Day 1 Thursday 10th August Victoria to Sooke We caught the coach and ferry from Vancouver to Victoria and grabbed the first two rental bikes we found. Some fast talking and adjustment of the rear axel and the trailer was mounted. Unfortunately we didn't realise at this stage that the rear derailleur cable was wrapped around the trailer attachment. It wasn't until we were lost and in the middle of nowhere that things started clunking and falling off the bike. Finally the whole thing went crunch and the rear gears became trapped in the spokes and wrapped around the wheel. It was 10pm before we finally made camp in sooke thanks to the help of Curtis a true Canadian Hero- "between you and me my wifes working here illegally and I owe a few taxes". An ... read more

No way this is it. But it didn't quite feel real until the conversation with the stern faced immigration officer at Vancouver airport went something like this; "How long are you staying in Canada?" (serious face) "14 Days." "then where are you going?" (still serious) "USA, Fiji, New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Japan." "How long for?" (mellowing) "12 months."
