Spent the morning relaxing by the pool at the Shangri-La Resort. It's a tough life but someone has to do it!! We packed up at 12 and headed to the Australian Team's motel - The Pokhara Grande - where we met up with everyone else. We decided to go for a walk into town to get some lunch. Some of the people left while I was dropping my bag in the room, so Pauline and I joined up with another group and headed off. Big mistake! 5kms and 45 minutes later in 35C and 80% humidity these people finally stopped at a restaurant in Lakeside Pokhara. We were dying of thirst and hunger so thankfully this restaurant served nice cold drinks and very yummy pizzas! Cold drinks are not very common in Nepal - you actually ... read more

I began today determined to find a chemist. That determination didn't last long. I managed to get outside and about 2 blocks away from the hotel when my breathing decided to stop. After having a coughing and sneezing fit for about 5 minutes (positive I was going to die!) and having numerous Nepalese people stop to see if I was OK, I managed to make it back to the hotel. Once I was back in the air conditioning I was able to breathe again - thank goodness! So that decided it. I was hanging out at the motel until I got picked up for my trip to Pokhara. I went back to my room, packed up my bags, went downstairs to check out and made myself comfy in the lobby. The air conditioning was much better ... read more

Even though I hardly slept due to a horrible bout of hayfever, I managed to drag myself out to explore Kathmandu's sister cities - Patan and Bhaktapur. And yes I did have cold & flu and hayfever tablets to pack - but in typical Casey fashion, I left them at home along with my panadol, sunscreen and my hat! Awesome effort! Haha! Myself and another "Builder" from Sydney set out with our private tour guide and driver at about 9am. A 20 minute drive had us arriving in the Kathmandu Valley city of Patan. Patan has a population of approximately 200,000 and is the third largest city in Nepal. It is a World Heritage Site and home to the former royal palace (Nepal was a Kingdom until 2008 when it became a Republic). To get into ... read more

After arriving super late to the Royal Singi Hotel in Kathmandu last night, all I wanted to do was sleep! I managed to doze off at about 3am, only to get woken by the phone at quarter to 6 - my ride was here to take me to the airport for my Mt Everest flight!! Well... all my worries about DragonAir disappeared this morning as I boarded a "Buddha Air" flight to Mt Everest! An airline ... named afer my sister's dog! Surely it can't be named after anyone else? There were 16 of us on the flight and I had both my cameras ready to go. It was pretty hazy outside as we took off, but as soon as we cleared the clouds it was spectacular. Clear blue sky, no wind, and the most sensational ... read more

BEWARE: This is my first attempt at "blogging" so it probably isn't going to be too crash hot - and for that I apologise in advance!!!!! CAM xoxo So my trip started yesterday morning in Adelaide. I got up, unpacked my bag (again) and re-packed it for the fourth time - just so I could make sure I didn't forget anything! The problem was when I tried to pick my bag up and put it on my back. After a few failed attempts at standing up with the bag on and readjusting the straps (so they were on the short-arse setting), I managed to get comfy. The bag is almost as tall as I am! So I called a taxi and toddled off to the airport - where the cab driver was nice enough to lift ... read more
