NOTE: THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN POSTED YESTERDAY! I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENDED! Prepare yourselves. This is gonna be a long one... So since my last post, I have been keeping pretty busy. I decided I should actually spend some time in Brooklyn. Following the walking tour flash cards JEJ made for me, I took some time to visit Prospect Park. It was incredibly lovely. It was much less crowded than Central Park and full of people who were just enjoying the simpler pleasures of life: fathers playing catch with their sons, mothers pushing strollers, kids racing each other on bikes and lots of joggers. I spent some time on a bench enjoying the shade and writing in my notebook. I explored the surrounding neighborhood a bit, secretly relishing in the fact that Rufus Wainwright ... read more

I'm just going to say, I cannot believe NOBODY told me about the crazy fucking rain in this city! One minute it's hot, humid as all get out and the sky is clear as can be. The next minute the sky breaks open over your head, hard, and there is full-on lightning and thunder. Normally the sound of rain and thunder lulls me to a deep and peaceful sleep but the thunder out here is just INSANE. Nightmare inducing loud. Never in my life.... Anyhow, after the Red Rock experience from the night before, Rose and I wanted a good, heavy breakfast yesterday morning. Steve Tynan told me to check out a little place called Good Enough to Eat on the Upper West Side. Oh glorious, glorious sustenance! I ordered the migas scrambled eggs (tortilla chip ... read more

I'm short on time today but I'll do my best. Because I go so much done the day before, I felt like taking it easy. Rose and I started the day with lunch at Lombardi's, which came highly recommended by Steve. I knew I would love it before I even walked in. Was it th adorable look of the building? Yes, but no. It was because the smell of sweet, sweet delisious basil was wafting from it! When we actually did walk in, they glorious sound of Frank Sinatra greeted us. I mean really, does it get any better than that? It does! The food was phe-nominal. We ordered a ricotta and garlic sauteed pizza and a tomato, coal oven roasted bell pepper, basil and mozzerella plate. I ordered an italian soda and that was pretty ... read more

New York is a dangerous place. Dangerous in the sense that if you aren't careful, you will fall in love. My flight from Los Angeles went without a hitch. It left on time and one five-dollar movie (The Namesake), a jack and coke and a few episodes of Pop Up Video later, I'm at JFK. Rose and her mother meet me and helped me maneuver through the airport like it was Burbank. I was starving (unfortunately, a bag of "Munchies" on Jet Blue isn't sustenance enough for me) so we stopped at a local pizza joint on the way home. It was my first ever slice of New York pie and, well...it was fucking heavenly. I ordered a slice or ricotta and spinach pizza and this broccoli and cheese bread thing. Lemme tell ya, there was ... read more

Yesterday was another hot and humid day (70%, to be exact). Hey, at least I'm not in Florida! Though it may get hotter than Satan's anus out here, I'm having a wonderful time. I admire New Yorkers for their capacity to ignore the overwhelmingly fierce stench of the city and especially the subway system. Someone yaked on the B last night and no one seemed the slightest bit perturbed by it. Except for Rose. She dry heaved a little bit after seeing it. Unlike the rain here, I WAS warned about the smell. Steve Tynan specifically told me, "It's hot in the summertime, and it will appear really dirty, and in many places really smelly." Fair enough. So another place that had come highly recommended to me was Pastis. Steve told me to go for breakfast ... read more
