My wife and I have been to about 24 countries - mostly together. We love bareboating in the tropics. The next big adventure is visiting our daughter in Sydney. Her blog is under esclaw.

Well since Sydney we've cruised the Lesser Antilles (sorry no blog). Now we are off to Ireland.

How did this all happen? Why are we going to Ireland? It started last January as my parents were down for their annual 3-week visit with us in Miami. These miniature and nearly invisible versions of the widely feared box jellyfish carry an enormous venomous punch. I watched two trained scientists who confidently picked up box jellies in their bare hands, two scientists both in full stinger suits, hoods, booties and gloves; I watched them become two scientists who doubled up in agony after an Irukandji brushed the barely exposed lip of one and after a tiny bit of broken tentacle fell from a glove onto the skin of the other as she climbed out of her protective gear. Both were hospitalized, racked ... read more

To my daughter, the blogger Esclaw, as we plan to visit her in Sydney during December... Where, you asked, would Mom and I go in Australia if you, Les and Abby were not in the picture. Hypothetical questions of this sort are tough to answer. If you were not in the picture, we would go to Greece. But if you were totally out of the picture, had you never been born, we'd probably not have had the desire to visit Greece kindled in us by our daughter, who you'll recall in our hypothesis, does not exist. All of the branching what-ifs inevitably lead to hypothetical dead ends. Who knows, if you were out of the picture, we might just decide to go to Hoboken. So let's leave you in the picture and try again. The picture ... read more
