Hey all, so my mom has been here for a week and we've been busy with everything. I've been even busier handling our adventures and class/homework, so an update with all of our two week adventures should come on 3 October. And then Chris comes to visit :)... read more

It's been a while- this week I had a paper, presentation, and test so I haven't been up to a lot. I did, however, go to Australian Idol on Sunday! The girls across the hall went the Thursday before, but none of them could go on Sunday, so we took their free passes. Claire, Sarah, Little Jackie and I got all dressed up and left around 4. The studio is inside this Sydney Entertainment center... it has the equestrian center, a football or rugby stadium, the Fox studio, and a few restaurants and bars. After waiting outside for maybe half an hour, we finally got inside. We were seated on the aisle of the center section, in the second row behind the judges. Eventually they had us move down into the reserved seating section, so we ... read more

Last week I went to the Sydney Aquarium with Claire, her friend Tori who was visiting, Sarah, and Kerry. Pictures are attached, and if you want more let me know. There's a lot, so I'll just explain the day through those. Uneventful weekend again, but I made up for it last night . My chest started hurting around 8:30, so I went to bed around 10:30. I woke up around an hour later to more chest pain, and now it hurt up and down my sternum. I took two advil around midnight because it started to hurt when I breathed any deeper than shallow breathing. I tried to lay down, which just hurt worse. So after talking with Claire and Sarah, two of my roommates, I decided to get a cab to the emergency room. A ... read more

So, there hasn't been a lot to report. The weekend after orientation I went with some of the girls to Paddy's market. It's like the French Quarter in New Orleans. A lot of cheap little stands that sell absolutely everything. My purchases include a $10 for 10 minute massage , zebra print light-weight scarf, and DG sunglasses. Mine were falling apart, so this purchase was completely necessary. It just happened that I bought DG ones, after Delta Gamma... The next weekend and this weekend have been extremely uneventful, but that's okay. I've been slowly exploring the area around the Tiffany, which includes a little market and other cute shops. Some of my roommates are planning a trip to Nimbin, which is the Amsterdam of Australia, but I'd rather save my money for when my mom and ... read more

After flying from Cairns to Sydney, everyone met up at the Tiffany Apartments, where I'm staying. We listened to the director spell out all the rules for living here, and after an hour or so, we got to move in. There was some room switching, so my roommates now are Jackie, who I've been with for the trip, Claire and Sarah who came on the second orientation, and Jackie who was on no orientation and Sarit who was on the first orientation with me. I'll post pictures soon of our place, but it's pretty nice. We have a cleaning service that comes every day to take trash and towels, and another that comes once a week to change sheets and do some deep cleaning. The kitchen is really small, and one fridge is proving stressful for ... read more

The long awaited bungee day! I felt sick all day, and I’m pretty sure it was just butterflies. We got to the place, A.J. Hacket, and I was to go on the minjin swing first, with Matt and Caroline. The minjin swing is where you put some harness on, and you get hooked to this wire, as well as hooked to the two other people. You put your legs out so you look like Superman, and then get hoisted up as high as the bungee tower. When the little light on the ground goes green, one of you has to pull this little cord, and awayyy you go. I screamed the whole way forward, and then we paused for a second, and went all the way backwards. I screamed for that, too. By the second or ... read more

Tuesday we woke up fairly early to go snorkeling. The boat first took us to White Haven beach on Whitsunday Island. This beach was rated the most beautiful beach in the world. It has the whitest sand, which if you get caught stealing any, it’s a $40,000 fine. Everyone took pictures, splashed around in the bluest water I’ve seen, and laid out on the sand. After about an hour we headed to another island, where we laid anchor in Pitstop Bay. A ten-minute hike led us to a beautiful lookout of heaven. See pictures attached. White sand bars surrounded by the bluest water. I chose not to pay $60 to scuba since we’d be scuba diving later in the week. The water looked cold, especially when a boy in a wetsuit got out of the since ... read more

9:07PM, the 'resort' Saturday night we had our dinner cruise. We all got dressed up and walked down to Darling Harbor and waited for our boat. It was very snazzy. We had the whole upper level to ourselves, and as soon as we sat down we were served Champaign. Almost right away we were able to go out on the deck to take pictures of the bridge and of the Opera House. However, since it was pitch dark outside, a lot of my pictures did not come out. After coming back into the warm boat, we were served bread. I asked the lady if they had gluten free bread, and she said she would check. I guess the bread everyone else got to eat was not good at all. The lady came back with a plate ... read more

8:50AM, the hotel More about the nature park... so in my wandering I found a little children’s zoo. I walked inside and found a bunch of birds walking on the ground, pigs, ducks, rabbits, turkeys, and guinea pigs. Why they had guinea pigs in a zoo in Australia, I don’t know. A lot of the birds noticed my entry, since I was the only one in there. They started casually walking over to me, which freaked me out. I called my friend Rohit to come in and save me, and when he came in they stopped coming at me. We walked around and saw two goats in the zoo as well. When we started walking away, one of the goats started to charge me, so I got out of there. A girl still had her cup ... read more

9:20PM, the hotel So I forgot to mention that Wednesday night we went out to a restaurant, and I had kangaroo. It wasn’t bad! And it has a lot of benefits- it’s environmentally friendly, spares the population of kangaroos, and it’s healthy. I also bought my first legal drink, called Neptune. It was blue with crushed ice, and an orange peel on top. Thursday we had our walking tour. It was rainy most of the morning, so we did a few detours to stay dry. We did see a lot though. Hyde Park, the shopping ‘arcades’ , countless coffee shops, other random sights in the city. Included in the walking tour was the Botanic Gardens. Definitely taking mom here. There are these birds that, if you bring bread with you, they will perch on your arm ... read more
