Well, we made it to Yogyakarta. What a trip it has been: at least 21 hours of plane rides, about 55 hours of total travel time (however we did stay in Singapore for a night so take away 15 hours there and you've got 40 hours of travel time). 4 planes, 3 countries (ish), 2 rapid transit rides, 1 crammed ass public bus... and we still survived. We are writing this while enojoying a large (and I mean large) Bintang beer on the patio of our guesthouse. We are staying at Bladok Losmen, so far so good. I mean it has a fricken pool. Pictures to come. Anywho, the point of this blog was not to ramble, but do the opposite - explain our new blog style. Up to this point I've been all sappy sap, ... read more

It was the most fantastic thing. Tyler and I had to take two flights to get from Singapore to Yogyakarta. The first flight was from Singapore to Jakarta, then we had what was supposed to be an hour and a half layover before our next flight. The first flight to Jakarta was delayed by about 40 minutes. Rebecca got stressed. Tyler stayed cool and calm. With less than an hour between flights we were running around like crazy and then found out we needed to get our Indo visa's before getting our connecting flight. Customs was telling us we needed a flight booked to exit the country before we could get a Visa, but luckily with us running short on time all we needed to provide was a fake place we were staying in the country ... read more

After about 30 hours of travelling, 18 of those being on a plane, we have arrived safely in Singapore. Since we are staying here for the night, our main focus was to find somewhere to stay and grab some grub. One of the areas backpackers can find "affordable" accomodations is Little India so we thought that would be a great place to go. There were a number of hostels in one block and chose to stay at The Inn Crowd. It costs a little more than we wanted to spend ($17/bed/night) but with free wi-fi and free breakfast it was much better than a couple other places around. It's going to be our first dorm-style sleeping and the guy that has been sleeping all day filled the room with a lovely aroma...not. In the words of ... read more

To my Mom and Dad I know this has been really hard on you so I've decided to dedicate a song to each of you. Whenever you miss me, just listen and sing and I'll be right there with you :) Mom, obviously Jann Arden "Good Mother"! We have had a million sing alongs to this song and it always chokes me up. "I've got a good mother and her voice is what keeps me here". One of the only reasons I have been able to go on this trip is because of your guidance and support. If I ever get scared, I will close my eyes, think of your smile and hold your hand so I can go on. Everywhere I go, you will be there too. Dad, Neil Young "Old Man". "Old man take ... read more

To really understand how difficult this last day has been, I need to rewind a couple months and explain how amazing the individuals I had the privledge to work with are. When I first broke the news I was quitting to travel, I expected frustration, sad faces and difficult times at work. I was pleasantly surprised by the encouragement I received! Everyone was really excited for me! Saying things like "you gotta do it now!", "I wish I did that when I was 25", "Can I come with you?" haha. After the initial shock, everyone was genuinely interested in what the heck I was doing; some people would just listen to my plans, others had excellent advice to share! It's been amazing and I can definitely say I left that place on a high note. I ... read more

After today, there will only be 15 days before we leave. That is basically two weeks. Even more important than the fact that I'm leaving soon is the fact that it's my Brother's 22nd birthday in a few days. Actually one week today. Eric: I love you. I love you more than you know. It's really hard for me to leave you because all our lives, you've looked up to me. I helped you with homework, I went shopping with you when you wanted to look "cool", and I've been there to listen when you're going through something difficult. Even though I'm only leaving for a little while, it almost seems like I'm letting go a bit. Yesterday we used to walk to school together and now when I look at you, you've become this completely ... read more

Frequently Asked Questions Aka “FAQ, I’m being asking this again?!” I’m hilarious, I know. This is a list of things that we often get asked and I wanted to clarify for our lovely friends and family J NUMBER ONE MOST ASKED QUESTION: Are you going to work along the way? Answer: No. We are seeing 6 countries in 8 months. We are rarely staying in one place longer than 5 days. Unfortunately that doesn’t leave much time for working or volunteering. We have both expressed interest in volunteering or somehow giving back to the impoverish community’s we will be going through, however if it happens, it will be a spur of the moment kind of decision. 2. Are you going to Europe? Answer: No. 3. Why not? Answer: Because that is what old people do. Okay, ... read more

December 2010, there were 3 words that Tyler said that changed my life forever... "I'll miss you". At that time he and I had been unofficially seeing each other for a while. Neither of us wanted to get serious because HE was leaving and there were a few other things we don't need to get into. When he said he was going to miss me, I finally let myself give in to the emotions I had been feeling for him and let myself fall. Bad choice at the time because he was leaving for his SE Asian trip in like a week. Good choice for me in the long run because he got hit by a motorcycle a month later and now we are going to travel the world together. This week I said three words ... read more

This past month I have celebrated Easter and my 25th birthday. It's been an absolutel amazing and crazy month! I got to see so many of my friends and family and made so many new memories with them all. The beautiful words in your birthday cards touched my heart, the wonderful things people had to say about me on Facebook (lame I know, but just as meaningful), and the warm thoughts I received from the people I might not have been able to see. It has made me realize how much I will miss everyone while I'm away. As I get older I begin to cherish more and more the things that money can't buy. In this short but sweet blog I want to say thank you to everyone that makes me smile on a daily ... read more
